Freshwater snail and shrimp differentially affect water turbidity and benthic primary producers

Benthic macroinvertebrates play key roles in shallow aquatic ecosystems and can contribute substantially to aquatic food ***,how macroinvertebrates with different behaviors(for example,pertaining to locomotion,foraging and burrowing)impact water quality and primary producers has not been fully ***,we performed two consecutive microcosm experiments to test the effects of(1)macroinvertebrates with different behaviors(a low mobility scraper aquatic snail Bellamya aeruginosa and a high mobility shredder freshwater shrimp Macrobrachium nipponense)and(2)different shrimp biomasses on water clarity and the composition of benthic primary *** results showed that presence of snails significantly increased the biomass of filamentous green algae and decreased the biomass of *** contrast,presence of shrimp significantly decreased the biomass of filamentous green algae and increased the biomass of periphyton,and these effects were biomass *** green algae disappeared when shrimp biomass reached 9.8 g m^(-2).No interactive effects of snail and shrimp presence were *** could be attributed to different food preferences by the two consumers,with snails preferring periphyton(mainly diatoms)and shrimp preferring filamentous green *** presence of snails decreased water turbidity,while shrimp increased water turbidity,which showed a hump-shaped response to shrimp biomass with a peak at 24.2 g m^(-2).These results are likely because the snail is a low mobility grazer and can filter suspended particles,while the shrimp is a high mobility shredder with burrows,which can strongly disturb *** decrease in water disturbance at high shrimp biomass might be due to food limitation,thus reducing burrowing and foraging *** snail nor shrimp affected the biomass of ***,while the biomass of *** increased with shrimp *** reason for this could be that shrimp increased nutrient availabili

Transient multi-field catalytic mechanism of derived CO in deep energy extraction and optimization of synergistic conversion efficiency

In deep coal fluidized energy extraction, complex geological conditions and nonlinear fluctuations heighten risks of gas explosions and CO diffusion. This study proposes a Transient Multifield-Catalytic Synergistic (TMFCS) technology utilizing micro-nano particles, integrating particle catalysis experiments with a coupled thermal-flow-solid-reaction model to establish rapid CO conversion. The dynamic diffusion mechanisms of internally excited particle clouds and their impacts on component conversion efficiency are systematically analyzed for in-situ carbon conversion and explosion-induced smoke-gas diffusion control. Experimental results demonstrate that under catalytic particle sizes of 50–75 μm and delayed release times of 12–22 ms, the TMFCS achieves over 70 % in-situ CO conversion. To enhance prediction accuracy in complex conditions, a hybrid model combining Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory Network (BiLSTM), and Attention mechanisms is developed. Integrated with the Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO) algorithm, optimal catalytic particle parameters and spraying processes are inversely identified, elevating CO conversion rates beyond 79 %. The TMFCS framework enables rapid CO consumption during deep mining, offering theoretical and technical foundations for carbon resource recycling and safety control. This approach addresses challenges in waste carbon utilization and explosion prevention, advancing sustainable and secure energy extraction practices. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Robot audition systems with multiple microphone arrays have many applications in practice. However, accurate calibration of multiple microphone arrays remains challenging because there are many unknown parameters to be identified, including the relative transforms (i.e., orientation, translation) and asynchronous factors (i.e., initial time offset and sampling clock difference) between microphone arrays. To tackle these challenges, in this paper, we adopt batch simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for joint calibration of multiple asynchronous microphone arrays and sound source localization. Using the Fisher information matrix (FIM) approach, we first conduct the observability analysis (i.e., parameter identifiability) of the above-mentioned calibration problem and establish necessary/sufficient conditions under which the FIM and the Jacobian matrix have full column rank, which implies the identifiability of the unknown parameters. We also discover several scenarios where the unknown parameters are not uniquely identifiable. Subsequently, we propose an effective framework to initialize the unknown parameters, which is used as the initial guess in batch SLAM for multiple microphone arrays calibration, aiming to further enhance optimization accuracy and convergence. Extensive numerical simulations and real experiments have been conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method. The experiment results show that the proposed pipeline achieves higher accuracy with fast convergence in comparison to methods that use the noise-corrupted ground truth of the unknown parameters as the initial guess in the optimization and other existing frameworks. © 2024, CC BY.

Compliance control technology is particularly im-portant in contact operations such as grinding and polishing, surface tracking, and medical diagnosis. The core technology achieves contact control of a constant force for complex heterogeneous surfaces. However, due to the unknown environmental stiffness/position and dynamic changes, there are some problems, such as poor position/force tracking accuracy and a low degree of complex surface fit. To solve the above problems, a piecewise trajectory planning algorithm based on speed controllable NURBS and a teaching and learning mode constant force tracking strategy based on position/force coordination planning are proposed in this paper. First, a NURBS segmented trajectory planning algorithm with controllable speed is proposed by combining the NURBS trajectory planning algorithm with the T-type speed interpolation algorithm, and constant force tracking control based on the FCPressNURBS instruction set is realized by combining the adaptive admittance control algorithm. Second, based on the concept of teaching and learning modes, the position/force tracking parameters are obtained by the compliant control method, and the learning ideas is used to optimize the constant force tracking trajectory of the robot. Finally, the algorithm is tested on the ROKAE xMate robot, and the results show that the proposed algorithm improves the constant force tracking accuracy of the robot to the complex contact surface in the heterogeneous environment and can realize the adaptive constant force tracking effect of the robot to the unknown environment.

The Huixian karst wetland, situated in southwest China, is the largest karst wetland. Historically, organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) have negatively affected the aquatic environment and the health of surrounding residents. In this study, the pollution status and environmental fate of OCPs in multiple environmental media in the Huixian wetland were investigated. The 15 OCPs’ total concentration ranges in lake water, ditch water, groundwater, and lake sediment were 46.8–306 ng·L-1, 77.8–251 ng·L-1, 26.0–233 ng·L-1, and 44.8–345 ng·g-1, respectively. The concentrations and proportions of the different OCPs demonstrated significant seasonality. Historical residues are the main source of OCPs in the region, as evidenced by the typical ratios of DDTs to HCHs. Karst regions are extremely vulnerable to environmental change, as evidenced by the highly dynamic character of the karst wetland system and the rapid migration of multimodal OCPs in different media without considerable damage. According to the risk assessment, both the possible carcinogenic risk to sediments in the Huixian wetland and the ecological risk to water bodies were acceptable. In contrast, the consumption of lake water may put the local population at health risk, which is a cause of concern. © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Nitrogen, as a common substance in water pollution, can easily cause eutrophication of water when it is excessive. Constructed wetland, as a water treatment method that combines the common actions of plants, microorganisms, and substrates, has positive significance for the removal of nitrogen. This article reviews the nitrogen removal mechanism of each component in constructed wetlands, and the effects of temperature, carbon-nitrogen ratio, dissolved oxygen, pH, and HRT on denitrification, and proposes existing problems and research directions in constructed wetlands. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper proposes an online motion planning approach to robot navigation based on nonlinear model predictive control. In robot navigation, state spaces often include rotational components which span over non-Euclidean rotation groups. The proposed approach applies nonlinear increment and difference operators in the entire optimization scheme to explicitly consider these groups. Realizations include but are not limited to quadratic form and time-optimal objectives. A complex parking scenario for the kinematic bicycle model demonstrates the effectiveness and practical relevance of the approach. In case of simpler robots (e.g. differential drive), a comparative analysis in a hierarchical planning setting reveals comparable computation times and performance. The approach is available in a modular and highly configurable open-source C++ software framework.

Activated carbon-supported nano zero-valent iron and nanosilver composite (Ag/Fe/AC) is prepared by using simultaneous carbothermal reduction methods. The technical characterization reveals that the modification process results in a reduction of the specific surface area of the activated carbon to 586.752 m2·g -1 compared to its original value (914.637 m2·g -1), and the supported nano zero-valent iron and nanosilver particles exhibit particle sizes ranging from 15 to 30 nm, the co-doping of silver leads to a notable reduction in the particle size of the zero-valent iron. Batch equilibration studies show that the adsorption performance of Ag/Fe/AC is significantly superior to that of the single-supported modified activated carbon (activated carbon-supported nano zero-valent iron and activated carbon-supported nanosilver) prepared by the same method. The maximum adsorption capacity of Ag/Fe/AC calculated from the Langmuir adsorption isotherm is found to be 94.314 mg·g-1, which is approximately 10.0 and 1.4 times higher than activated carbon-supported nanosilver and activated carbon-supported nano zero-valent, respectively. Based on the comparison of surface materials of Ag/Fe/AC before and after adsorption, it has been concluded that under the synergistic effect of silver and iron nanoparticles, the majority of the adsorbed As(III) on the Ag/Fe/AC surface is converted into As(V) and forms complexes such as FexAsy(OOH)z and FexAsy(OH)z, which are firmly attached to the material surface. The experiments on silver-loss demonstrate that the presence of zero-valent iron significantly reduce the rate of silver loss, thereby ensuring the safety and reliability of water purification. © 2023, The Authors. Biodegradation of Chlorpyrifos by Goethite / Shewanella Oneidensis Mr-1 Complex: Experimental Optimization and Degradation Products

The efficiency of microbial degradation of organic pollutants in water is influenced by various factors, including ambient temperature, physicochemical properties of the pollutants, and the presence of other compounds in the water. Shewanella sp. has the ability to perform extracellular electron transfer through different metabolic pathways to degrade organic pollutants in water. However, the presence of specific metal compounds in the water can impact the extracellular electron transfer of Shewanella sp. and subsequently affect the efficiency of organic pollutant degradation. In this study, the degradation system of Shewanella oneidensis MR-1 and goethite was constructed with chlorpyrifos as the target contaminant. The effects of initial pH, contaminant concentration, and temperature on the removal rate of chlorpyrifos during the degradation process were investigated. The experimental conditions were optimized by response surface methodology with a Box-Behnken design (BBD). The results showed that the removal rate of chlorpyrifos was 75.71% at pH = 6.86, an initial concentration of 19.18 mg/L, and a temperature of 30.71°C. LC-MS/MS analyses showed that the degradation products were C4H11O3PS, C7H7Cl3NO4P, C9H11Cl2NO3PS, C7H7Cl3NO3PS, C9H11Cl3NO4P, C4H11O2PS, and C5H2Cl3NO. Presumably, the degradation pathways involved are: enzymatic degradation, hydrolysis, dealkylation, desulfur hydrolysis, and dechlorination. The findings of this study demonstrate the efficacy of the goethite / S. oneidensis MR-1 complex system in the removal of chlorpyrifos from water. Consequently, this research contributes to the establishment of a theoretical framework for the microbial remediation of organophosphorus pesticides in aqueous environments. © 2023, The Authors. Acoustic emission and electromagnetic radiation, as the typical representatives of geophysical monitoring technology, can clearly reflect the precursor information of coal and rock failure. However, the existing rock burst early warning based on them is poor in noise processing and insufficient in feature mining, resulting in low generalization and accuracy of early warning. A novel method of rock burst early warning based on adaptive noise reduction and multi-image feature fusion is proposed. Firstly, Swarm Decomposition is used to decompose the acoustic emission and electromagnetic radiation intensity signals collected from working face, and each component after Kalman filtering is reconstructed to obtain the denoised signal. Then, the image features of Recurrence Plot, Gramian Angular Field, Motif Difference Field and Relative Position Matrix are extracted from the ten types of effective and interference signals respectively, and evaluate the distribution of image features of different scene signals. Next, the Non-Subsampled Contourlet Transformation fuses the preferred image and inputs it into the Vision Transformer model to obtain the identification results of normal, interference and precursor signals. A case study of a coal mine shows that the proposed method can identify various types of precursor response, and meet the early warning requirements under different induced factors such as first square, fault structure and periodic weighting. The average early warning accuracy of acoustic emission and electromagnetic radiation monitoring were 96.32 % and 96.01 % respectively, and the comprehensive accuracy reached 96.16 %, which can accurately identify the rock burst risk in advance and provide reliable guarantee for safe mining. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd
