In this paper, two optimization techniques of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Firefly Algorithm (FA) is used to obtain the optimal PID control parameters. To represent the model of the system, system identification with ARX model structure is developed. The results are determined by analysis the step response characteristic of the system. It was observed that the performances of PID controller with PSO optimized parameters perform well in position tracking of the pneumatic actuator system.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the dynamic characteristics of a valve-less micropump. A dynamic mathe- matical model of the micropump based on a hydraulic analogue system and a simulation method using AMESim software are developed. By using the finite-element analysis method, the static analysis of the diaphragm is carried out to ob- tain the maximum deflection and volumetric displacement. Dynamic characteristics of the valve-less micropump under different excitation voltages and frequencies are simulated and tested. Because of the discrepancy between simulation results and experimental data at frequencies other than the natural frequency, the revised model for the diaphragm maximum volumetric displacement is presented. Comparison between the simulation results based on the revised model and experimental data shows that the dynamic mathematical model based on the hydraulic analogue system is capable of predicting dynamic characteristics of the valve-less micropump at any excitation voltage and frequency.

This paper describes the model reduction framework for single-input single-output (SISO) discrete-time systems based on the preservation parameters such as Markov properties of the original system by applying a Frequency-Limited Impulse Response Gramian based Balanced Truncation method. This proposed method extends the Frequency-Limited Impulse Response Gramians model reduction method for continuous systems described in the recent paper in [20] to be applicable for discrete time systems. A numerical example is provided to compare the performances between various frequency limited model reduction methods at an arbitrarily selected frequency range within the passband of a digital filter. The stability of the reduced order models are also checked for each scenario.

In this paper, a mathematical modeling of pneumatic actuator system is developed by using RLS algorithm. An ARX model is chosen for the model structure. In order to cater the time-varying parameter of pneumatic system, a self-tuning controller is implemented based on the pole-assignment controller. An online RLS algorithm update the parameter estimation at every sample interval. The pole-assignment control parameter is then updated accordingly to the changes of the system parameters. Result of the system performance is compared with the conventional PID controller optimized by PSO algorithm. It is observed that the self-tuning controller performed well with almost zero error at steady state condition and overshoot less than 1%.

In this study interval type-2 fuzzy systems with non-singleton type-2 fuzzifire are used for identification and modeling nonlinear systems having noise with changing domain for fault detection purpose. The main idea in this fault detection method is to serve an upper bound and a lower bound as a confidence bound for system output that obtained from the interval type-2 fuzzy system. If we haven't precise information about mean and variance of noise, then non-singleton type-2 fuzzifire is usable. This fuzzifire improves performance of fault detection confidence bound. In the end of this paper a well-known benchmark two-tank system has been used for representing the advantages of proposed fault detection method.
