Aiming at the problem of the thread processing process of the planetary roller screw mechanism (PRSM), the theory, simulations and experiments of the thread turning are studied in this paper. Firstly, the unit cutter model and the main cutting force model of thread turning of PRSM are established based on the minimum energy method. And the finite element simulations calculation of thread turning of PRSM are performed, which analyze the influence of cutting parameters (cut depth, speed of cutting and the lathe) on the cutting force, the cutting temperature and the tool wear. Finally, the turning experiments of the screw rod are performed. The results show that the finite element simulations can effectively ensure thread processing process PRSM. © 2020 IEEE.

Designing a robust controller for systems with parameter uncertainties is a complex and demanding task. Traditional deterministic and probabilistic approaches may fall short in providing efficient and satisfactory solutions. To address this challenge, we propose a semi-heuristic approach that exploits the Kharitonov theorem to establish an initial point for the gradient descent algorithm. Through an iterative optimization process that incorporates user-defined performance criteria, our approach provide a robust controller with respect to presence of system uncertainties. Numerical simulations validate the effectiveness of our proposed method and highlight its superiority in addressing robust control problems compared with auto-tuned ΡΠ) controller. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper is concerned with the design of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) based optimal state-feedback controller design for seismically excited asymmetric structures (AS) having stiffness irregularities. The system is modelled in terms of mass, natural frequencies, damping ratio and eccentricities to easily obtain torsionally flexible (TF) model. A one storey, two-way asymmetric structural system is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the approach through simulations. The modelled system has bi-lateral and rotational degrees of freedom. Frequency responses show the effectiveness of proposed controller by means of a decrease in the peak values of translation at each resonance frequency. Moreover, the time domain simulation results, acquired by using real time-history data of San Francisco and El Centro Earthquakes also show that proposed controller is very effective in reducing vibration amplitudes of each direction by applicable control signals and guaranteeing the stability of the closed loop system. © 2015 IEEE.

The hydrocephalus shunt system has a high risk of malfunction, which could lead to serious problems for patients. It is therefore important to monitor intracranial pressure (ICP). In this paper, a novel ICP sensor is presented to provide real-time pressure measurement for hydrocephalus patients. Surface acoustic wave technology is adopted in the design of the sensor so that it can interrogate wirelessly;and no battery is needed for providing energy, hence it could have a longer life span. The finite element method (FEM) simulation is performed to investigate the input frequency of the sensor;a prototype is fabricated, and the corresponding measurement system based on the NI PXI platform is established to analyze the performance of the sensor. The sensor has a measurement range of 0-14 kPa with sensitivity of 2.95°/kPa. The experimental results strongly suggest that the proposed sensor has the potential in monitoring ICP. © 2014 World Scientific Publishing Company.

In this paper, we investigate the evolution of two non-identical two-level atoms in two-mode cavity fields. We demonstrate the death and rebirth effect of entanglement for two non-identical two-level atoms under some initial conditions. It is also exemplified that entangled states of two nonidentical two-level atoms can be generated by entangled two-mode cavity fields. This research can be considered as a first step to further investigate the problem of manipulating two nonidentical two-level atoms in two-mode cavity fields.

The synergies between electricity and other energy resources could promote energy utilization efficiency in electricity *** this context,this paper proposes a bi-level stochastic optimization model for the joint operation of a coordinated wind power plant(WPP)and natural gas generating(NGG)-power to gas(P2G)suppliers participating in the day-ahead(DA)market and real-time(RT)market as well as providing real-time auxiliary *** coordinated supplier’s payoff is maximized in the upper level with consideration of the uncertainties of WPP output capacity and RT electricity price,while the social welfare of the grid is maximized in the lower *** results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed bidding model of the coordinated WPPs and NGG-P2G suppliers by examining its bidding behaviors and benefits with comparisons of four other bidding models.

This paper is concerned with the application of a heuristic approach in the design of a fault-tolerant control system for ship steering. It proposes an advanced reconfigurable control system (RCS) for ship course changing/keeping and track keeping, robust to faults in actuator, gyrocompass and global positioning system (GPS) in the presence of disturbances (waves and currents). The proposed control scheme uses a reference model for compensation of signals from fault sensors and a compensator for reducing the loss of the control performance produced by a fault in the steering machine. In the case of the occurrence of the fault in one or more components, this control system minimizes loss in the control performance and gives enough time for operators to take appropriate action in order to reduce the risk of safety hazards and avoid severe consequences of the fault. The unavoidable penalty of degradation in control performance was found to be acceptable. © 2003 Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

This paper studies the real-time adaptive and repetitive control problem using the Desired Compensation Learning Law (DCLL) that has the advantage of robustness under the presence of unknown parameters with low memory requirement. The control structure of DCLL consists of a feedforward compensator that is designed by a linear combination of shape functions that is adaptable to parameter variations;hence the selection of appropriate shape functions plays an important role in the adaptive ability and accuracy of DCLL. In this study, the B-spline shape function is proposed to be used under the slowly updating scheme and the obtained results show that the robustness and accuracy of the tracking can be greatly improved even under payload variation and torque limits. © 2011 IEEE.

The influence of robot integration into the production process is rapidly increasing. Feeding systems of intermediate products are one of the most important steps in ensuring full system automation towards the fourth industrial revolution. Feeding systems generally consist of mechanical solutions. However, some production components cannot be fed to production cells with known methods due to mechanical restrictions such as fragility or sensitivity. In this paper, novel background estimation and edge detection methods are proposed to provide reliable magnetic core feeding by visual inspection methods. Mechanical solutions were inadequate due to the irregular shapes of magnetic cores. Also, the contortion of magnetic cores causes additional drawbacks. To overcome this problem, a method is developed to determine which products can be caught by the gripper and to check the conformity of their shapes to increase production yield. The proposed method provides a decisive feeding process and ensures 100% accuracy. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
