The essential quality parameter of rolled products is the flatness along the rolled stock length. The profile defects of the rolled stock, produced at the modern plate mill 5000, frequently occur in the course of intense cooling implied by the thermomechanical rolling technology. To eliminate them, the mill lines include cold straightening machines. The authors show typical flatness defects caused by the occurrence of longitudinal, central and edge waves. Further, the paper characterizes a cold straightening machine installed at the mill 5000 and provides the parameters of electric engines of straightening rollers. The key drawback of the design algorithm for electric drives' control is setting engine constant moments regardless of the thickness and character of the defects in the rolled stock processed. This causes overloading of the electric and mechanical systems of certain rollers and unsatisfactory product quality. To eliminate the drawback, the authors developed a method for individual setting of engine moments closely coupled in the course of sheet processing. The authors present a functional block diagram for the control system to implement the method. The rationale is provided for the digital setting of moment controllers switched on the inputs of speed controllers. The authors conducted simulation modelling and comparative analysis of engine speeds and moments at the design and proposed settings. The paper provides the analysis of oscillograms obtained before and after the introduction of the control system developed. Its technical and economic feasibility was confirmed during operation. © 2023 IEEE.

Feedback-Based Quantum Algorithm for Constrained Optimization Problems

The feedback-based algorithm for quantum optimization (FALQON) has recently been proposed to find ground states of Hamiltonians and solve quadratic unconstrained binary optimization problems. This paper efficiently generalizes FALQON to tackle quadratic constrained binary optimization (QCBO) problems. For this purpose, we introduce a new operator that encodes the problem's solution as its ground state. Using control theory, we design a quantum control system such that the state converges to the ground state of this operator. When applied to the QCBO problem, we show that our proposed algorithm saves computational resources by reducing the depth of the quantum circuit and can perform better than FALQON. The effectiveness of our proposed algorithm is further illustrated through numerical simulations. © 2024, CC BY.

Using machine vision for meter reading significantly enhances the efficiency of industrial monitoring. However, meters in outdoor environment are often subject to the noise such as rain and fog, which affect the accuracy of meter readings. Additionally, the meter images and labels under noise are hard to obtain. To address these challenges, We propose a method for pointer meter reading under noise based on virtual data generation. Firstly, We utilize Unity to construct an industrial meter scene, which generates the images of meter under noise and theri labels. Secondly, we develop a U-Net network with an ASPP module, which expands the receptive field of network and enhances the ability of segmentation network to capture global semantic information under noise. Finally, the angular method is used to calculate the meter readings. Experimental results show that this method can effectively read meters under noise in outdoor environments.

The authors solve the control devices synthesis problem for railway automation and remote-control devices. At the same time, the devices are endowed with the automatic fault detection properties and self-diagnosis, including pre-failure state control. As an example, a control device for a railway switch point mechanism is considered. As an element base for the implementation of the control device, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is used. The authors considered a solution that implies the finite state machines (FSM) with data from external systems using for technical diagnostics and monitoring in the process of developing a device when describing its operation. This linkage allows to endow the control device with the properties of self-diagnosis during operation. This does not affect the device safety and its operation in any way. Linking with the technical diagnostics and monitoring system increases the technical staff information content due to the timely generation of data on the occurrence of a control device pre-failure state. Even though we synthesized a device based on FPGA, the synthesis approach itself is universal and can be easily used with any element base. It should be noted that it is expedient to link directly with diagnostic equipment in the future, minimizing the amount of hardware used. The solution of this problem requires additional research. © 2023 IEEE.

The authors proposed to implement self-checking devices with built-in control circuits according by two diagnostic parameters-belonging of code words to modified Hamming codes and belonging of check functions to the type of self-dual Boolean functions. The principles of constructing modified Hamming codes are given. Conditions are established under which the check bits of modified Hamming codes will be described by self-dual Boolean functions. It is proved that for each value of the number of check bits k, there is only one value of the number of data bits m for which the check functions will be self-dual. It is m=2k-2, k &Element &naturals (k>1). For all other modified Hamming codes, the check functions are not self-dual. A condition for converting check functions of such Hamming codes into self-dual functions is formulated. The authors proposed the structure of the organization of the built-in control circuit according by the two diagnostic parameters indicated above. The results of simulating self-dual devices with calculations testing using modified Hamming codes with self-dual control functions are presented. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates discretization chattering effects in a distributed-parameter process governed by the diffusion PDE and equipped with a sliding-mode-based boundary controller. The collocated measurement is sampled in time and the boundary control signal is applied through a zero-order-hold element. The limit cycle modes constituting the chattering effects are determined exactly by exploiting the difference equation method, yielding their period and spatially dependent amplitude. Simulation results show that the theoretically determined limit cycle modes occur in the closed-loop system.

Switching power supplies are widely used in aerospace, new energy and many other fields. During long-term operation, various electronic components in these supplies experience performance degradation due to continuous electrical and thermal stress, leading to changes in output characteristics. This is the fundamental reason affecting the reliability of switching power supplies. However, the current combination of physics of failure (PoF) models and simulation technique is imperfect, and most methods cannot achieve batch injection of multiple device failures. This paper proposes a reliability prediction simulation method for switching power supplies based on PoF model injection. By focusing on a switching circuit, the approach involves digital twin modeling and validation, failure mechanism and sensitivity analysis, key failure components degradation modeling, and batch degradation simulation. This method achieves continuous degradation data of multiple components based on the PoF model through batch injection, improving the efficiency and accuracy of reliability prediction for switching power supplies.

The information network of the power system is an important part of the long- term continuous and effective operation in power industry. The complex network structure between the power grid and the information network in the smart grid brings a great challenge to the abnormal detection of network flow in the security of information communication network. However, traditional machine learning algorithms often have shortcomings such as low detection accuracy and poor real-time performance in solving the problem of network flow anomaly detection, and they are not possible to provide a high-precision early warning function for network security events in advance. In this paper, we introduce the principle of traffic anomaly detection technology based on intrusion detection, and propose a deep learning predictor for abnormal traffic in grid system. By learning the temporal and spatial features of traffic data, deep learning predictor can predict traffic features in the next period and classify traffic security events for the predicted traffic. To a certain extent, it can meet the demand of abnormal traffic detection of smart grid servers, so as to achieve the purpose of improving power grid information security. © 2022 IEEE.

From Words to Poses: Enhancing Novel Object Pose Estimation with Vision Language Models

Robots are increasingly envisioned to interact in real-world scenarios, where they must continuously adapt to new situations. To detect and grasp novel objects, zero-shot pose estimators determine poses without prior knowledge. Recently, vision language models (VLMs) have shown considerable advances in robotics applications by establishing an understanding between language input and image input. In our work, we take advantage of VLMs zero-shot capabilities and translate this ability to 6D object pose estimation. We propose a novel framework for promptable zero-shot 6D object pose estimation using language embeddings. The idea is to derive a coarse location of an object based on the relevancy map of a language-embedded NeRF reconstruction and to compute the pose estimate with a point cloud registration method. Additionally, we provide an analysis of LERF’s suitability for open-set object pose estimation. We examine hyperparameters, such as activation thresholds for relevancy maps and investigate the zero-shot capabilities on an instance- and category-level. Furthermore, we plan to conduct robotic grasping experiments in a real-world setting. © 2024, CC BY.

The Hybrid A* algorithm is suitable for Ackermann-type mobile robots with nonholonomic constraints. However, in practical path planning, such issues as long search times, inefficient search efficiency, and excessive planning path changes causing unstable robot motion still exist. To improve the effectiveness of path planning, this paper optimizes the Hybrid A* algorithm by using variable search step size and designing a path evaluation function during node expansion. Path planning experiments are conducted based on simulation and physical experimental platforms. The results show that the improved algorithm reduces the search nodes and planning time, effectively enhancing the algorithm’s search performance and efficiency. In addition, it avoids pose errors caused by reverse driving, ensuring the priority and smoothness of forward driving, and achieves efficient and stable path planning for Ackermann-type mobile robots.
