Given the difficulty of recognizing ambiguous emotions in facial expression recognition tasks, we propose a visual-language model named CAER-CLIP to address this challenge. The proposed CAER-CLIP standed for Context-Aware Emotion Recognition (CAER), and were incorporated structure of the Contrastive Language–Image Pre-training (CLIP) model as promising alternative to classifier. There are two parts in CAER-CLIP model. In the visual part, facial expressions and contextual information of the image are simultaneously extracted to obtain the final feature embeddings, which are then used as a learnable “class” token for text-image pairing with desired module. In the textual part, we use text labels for emotion recognition classes as input. The outputs were merged to participate the comparative study to generated parameters of the model. The experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and show that our CAER-CLIP outperforms the state-of-the-art results on the CAER benchmark. The ablation experiment verified the effectiveness of both the classifier-based and text-based (ours without classifier) models, demonstrating that our method with the CAER-CLIP structure performed better, and the incorporation of a text encoder in the deep network model architecture effectively enhancing recognition accuracy.

In this paper, a deep residual network based on convolutional block attention module (CBAM) is proposed, which is utilized for feature extraction of partially occluded face expression data. The proposed method overcomes the problem of localized occlusion face feature extraction by focusing on the regions and channels containing important information in the occluded face data through CBAM. Multi-task cascaded convolutional networks (MTCNN) are firstly utilized to localize the key regions of face emotion, and then deep emotion features are extracted by CBAM-ResNet network. The final emotion labels are generated. The effectiveness of this paper's method is verified on the RAF-DB dataset and the occluded CK+ dataset. The experimental accuracy in the RAF-DB dataset is 76.3%, which is 3.74% and 1.64% higher than the accuracy produced by the method of RGBT, and the WLS-RF, respectively. Application experiments are carried out in the real teaching scenario, which verifies the applicability of the algorithm in the real teaching scene.

In this paper, a new approach to distributed MPC of linear interconnected time-delay systems is proposed. The general case of time-delay in both the states and the control inputs is considered. The approach includes representation of the interconnected time-delay dynamics in the augmented state space and reformulation of the centralized MPC problem into a Quadratic Programming framework. The latter this is solved distributedly by using the dual gradient method for optimization. The suggested approach would be appropriate for embedded distributed MPC and is illustrated on a simulation example of two interconnected time-delay systems.

With the rapid development and widespread application of Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), IMU-based human localization has become critically important in environments lacking Global Navigation Satellite systems (GNSS) signals. Methods such as UWB/WIFI and other anchor-based localization have been employed to enhance the positioning accuracy. However, these methods are susceptible to the environmental interference and increased costs. In contrast, SINS-based localization methods eliminate reliance on the external data. However, this method can suffer from drift errors due to cumulative integration errors. Inertial navigation error correction techniques like Zero Detection Update Technology (ZUPT) provide potential solutions to address drift errors. This paper proposes an error correction method based on the multithreshold zero-velocity detection and Square Root Cubature Kalman Filter (SRCKF) updates. Compared to the single fixed threshold detection, the multi-threshold zero-velocity detection reduces the likelihood of missed zero velocity detection and false alarms, providing accurate time intervals for error correction. Experimental results demonstrate that the SRCKF-based algorithm reduces position deviation to approximately 0.3146 meters, corresponding to an error ratio of1.14%. The proposed method enables cost-effective and accurate pedestrian localization, driving advancements in the field.

In recent years, the error-state Kalman filter (ErKF) has been extensively employed across various applications, including but not limited to robotics, aerospace, and localization. However, incorporating constraints into the ErKF framework when state constraint is necessary has remained a challenging task due to its intrinsic properties. This paper explores all possible ways to achieve this goal in the context of the estimate projection method. In particular, the constraint can be enforced before or after the ErKF’s correction step. We approach the problem from a mathematical perspective by deriving analytical solutions and discussing their statistical properties. We prove that the two mentioned methods are statistically identical for a linear system with linear constraints. Conversely, the filter’s behavior remains uncertain in the presence of linearized constraints. However, we provide a special case of the nonlinear constraint, wherein the results of the linear case remain valid. To support our theorem and verify the filter’s performance when the assumptions are invalidated, we present two Monte Carlo simulations under the increasing initialization error and the constraint’s incompleteness. The simulation results clearly confirm our insights and lead to the conclusion that constraining the error-state after the correction may offer superior outcomes compared to its competitor. © 2023, CC BY.

In this paper, the outlier-resistant distributed filtering problem based on amplify-and-forward relays is studied for discrete time-varying nonlinear multi-rate systems with multiple measurement delays over sensor networks, where the augmenting method is utilized to transform the multi-rate system into a single rate system. An amplify-and-forward (AF) relay is set between the sensor and the filter to extend the transmission distance of the signal and ensure the communication transmission quality. The outlier-resistant distributed filter is constructed by introducing a saturation function to limit the innovations, then the upper bound on the filtering error covariance is obtained and the filter gain is designed to minimize such obtained upper bound. Finally, a numerical example is used to show the effectiveness of the outlier-resistant distributed filtering algorithm based on AF relays.

This paper proposes a partially model-free optimal control strategy for a class of continuous-time systems in a data-driven way. Although a series of optimal control have achieving superior performance, the following challenges still exist: (i) The controller designed based on the nominal system is difficult to cope with sudden disturbances. (ii) Feedback control is highly dependent on system dynamics and generally requires full state information. A novel composite control method combining output feedback reinforcement learning and input-output disturbance observer for these two challenges is concluded in this paper. Firstly, an output feedback policy iteration (PI) algorithm is given to acquire the feedback gain iteratively. Simultaneously, the observer continuously provides estimates of the disturbance. System dynamic information and states information are not needed to be known in advance in our approach, thus offering a higher degree of robustness and practical implementation prospects. Finally, an example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

In multi-infeed hybrid AC-DC (MIDC) systems, the emergency frequency control (EFC) with LCC-HVDC systems participating is of vital importance for system frequency stability. Nevertheless, when regional power systems are operated by different decision-makers, the LCC-HVDC systems and their connected AC systems might be unwilling to participate in the EFC due to the costs and losses. In this paper, to incentivize the LCC-HVDC systems and their connected adjacent AC systems to participate in the droop-based EFC, a novel control-parameter-based incentive mechanism is proposed, which can deal with various possible emergency frequency faults. Then, a non-cooperative-based incentive game model is formulated to implement the incentive mechanism in the MIDC system. An algorithm for seeking the Nash equilibrium is designed, and the uniqueness of Nash equilibrium is proven. Moreover, the individual rationality, incentive compatibility and social optimality of the proposed mechanism are analyzed and proven.
