Spiking neural P systems (SN P systems, for short) are a class of distributed parallel computing devices inspired from the way neurons communicate by means of spikes. In this work, a discrete structure representation of SN P systems with extended rules and without delay is proposed. Specifically, matrices are used to represent SN P systems. In order to represent the computations of SN P systems by matrices, configuration vectors are defined to monitor the number of spikes in each neuron at any given configuration;transition net gain vectors are also introduced to quantify the total amount of spikes consumed and produced after the chosen rules are applied. Nondeterminism of the systems is assured by a set of spiking transition vectors that could be used at any given time during the computation. With such matrix representation, it is quite convenient to determine the next configuration from a given configuration, since it involves only multiplication and addition of matrices after deciding the spiking transition vector. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.

A simple dynamic model of an industrial size synchronous generator operating in a nuclear power plant is developed in this paper based on first engineering principles. The constructed state-space model consists of a nonlinear state equation and a bi-linear output equation. It has been shown that the model is locally asymptotically stable with parameters obtained from the literature for a similar generator. The effect of load disturbances on the partially controlled generator has been analyzed by simulation using a traditional PI controller. It has been found that the controlled system is stable and can follow the set-point changes in the effective power well. The disturbance rejection of the controller is also satisfactory.

This paper presents a new maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control method for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM) drives. The proposed method uses the conventional speed control scheme, where speed control loop produces the magnitude of the stator current reference. According to the current angle in the rotor reference frame, ¿, the current reference is decomposed to the d-/q-axis current references. To operate IPMSM in the MTPA mode, this paper presents the new MTPA tracking method using signal injection. This method works based on the inherent definition of MTPA, which is that the torque variation due to the current angle variation should be zero at the specific torque. The proposed method detects the accurate current angle where the magnitude of the stator current is the minimum at the specific torque without any pre-made look-up tables and machine parameters.

Lyapunov-stable nonlinear plants can be approximated by an LTI model in many cases. If this approximation is obtained then it is possible to construct a G2DOF control system. The paper presents a new approach how the important relationships between the actuator, process and design parameters furthermore robustness measures can be determined. In this decomposition method the optimal control design for two-degree of freedom time delay control systems is discussed. Using a proper CAD algorithm the exact relationships can be plotted and the ultimate robustness limit of any control can be explicitly calculated.

Attitude determination with navigation satellites is a key technology in aviation, marine and land navigation. In the method based on carrier phase difference, the double difference integer ambiguity solving is important and difficult. This paper adopts Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization to search for the optimal integer ambiguity directly without the decorrelation of ambiguity, and calculates the baseline vector consequently. This method can improve the efficiency of integer ambiguity solving, so as to be applied in dynamic attitude determination. The experimental results show the validity of this method.

A temporal point process is a stochastic time series of binary events that occurs in continuous time. In computational neuroscience, the point process is used to model neuronal spiking activity; however, estimating the model parameters from spike train is a challenging problem. The state space point process filtering theory is a new technique for the estimation of the states and parameters. In order to use the stochastic filtering theory for the states of neuronal system with the Gaussian assumption, we apply the extended Kalman filter. In this regard, the extended Kalman filtering equations are derived for the point process observation. We illustrate the new filtering algorithm by estimating the effect of visual stimulus on the spiking activity of object selective neurons from the inferior temporal cortex of macaque monkey. Based on the goodness-offit assessment, the extended Kalman filter provides more accurate state estimate than the conventional methods.

A new approach to the cross-layer design of wireless networked control systems under limited computing and energy resources is presented. The idea is to provide a methodology that jointly takes the aspects of control e.g. control algorithms, Communication e.g. communication protocols, and Computation e.g. energy consumption into consideration. The design objective is the predictability and optimization of the control performance for a given control application. The control performance is a complex function of network parameters e.g. delay, packet loss, network throughput and control system parameters e.g. sampling period, control algorithm. control performance predictability and optimization can only be achieved by imposing requirements on the wireless network design. A cross-layer design methodology is shown to be very useful for this purpose. To illustrate the methodology, an inverted pendulum system with low-energy wireless network is used for the cross-layer design of control algorithms and communication protocols under computing and energy constraints. © 2009 EUCA.

Brain computer Interface (BCI) is a technology that developed over the last three decades has provided a novel and promising alternative method for interacting with the environment. BCI is a system which translates a subject's intentions into a control signal for a device, e.g., a computer application, a wheelchair or a neuroprosthesis. Electroencephalogram-based BCI has become a hot spot in the research of neural engineering, rehabilitation, and brain science. The artifacts are disturbance that can occur during the signal acquisition and that can alter the analysis of the signals themselves. Removing artifacts produced in Electroencephalogram (EEG) data by muscle activity, eye blinks and electrical noise is a common and important problem in EEG analysis. In this research, for artifact rejection, EEG data are filtered to the frequency range between 8 and 32 Hz with a butterworth band-pass filter. Finally two different structures of neural network and a support vector machine used to classify features that are extracted by Hilbert and Wavelet transform. © 2009 IEEE.

Color image histograms are very useful tools for content based image retrieval (CBIR) that can be applied on features such as colour, texture and shape. As these kinds of histograms results with large variations between neighbouring bins, they seem so sensitive to any kind of changes such as noise, illumination. To overcome this problem, in this paper, fuzzy linking histogram approach based on OWA aggregation operator is proposed , which is capable of projecting 3-dimensional (L*a*b*) colour histograms into single-dimension. The proposed method have been evaluated and compared with five other related methods in retrieving similar images from the common dataset which is available on http://***/∼konkonst. The experimental results on 100 images within two categories of Cat and Sky reveals better performance of the proposed method in comparison with the other mentioned methods. ©2009IEEE.

Since accurate migrations of data fragments in distributed database systems, known dynamic fragment allocation, play an important role in amendment of distributed database performance, several algorithms each of which shows different performance in various conditions, have been proposed to improve dynamic fragment allocation in distributed database systems. In this paper, we are going to propose a novel algorithm which is able to detect oscillation conditions and provides a solution to prevent redundant fragment migration. Proposed algorithm, an improved version of the previous near neighborhood allocation (NNA) algorithm, uses a fuzzy inference engine to detect oscillations in fragment request and ignore fragment migrations under these conditions. Our results indicate that, fuzzy based clearly improved the performance of distributed database systems in which oscillation conditions are more probable. This algorithm, providing data clustering, is very suitable for DDBS in the networks, with heavy loads, and frequent requests for data fragments coming from different sites.
