The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) facilitates in-home electronic healthcare, transforming traditional hospitalbased medical examination approaches. This paper proposes a novel transmit scheme for fog computing-enabled IoMT that leverages uplink and downlink rate splitting (RS). Fog computing allows offloading partial computation tasks to the edge server and processing the remainder of the tasks locally. The uplink RS and downlink RS utilize their flexible interference management capabilities to suppress offloading and feedback delay. Our overarching goal is to minimize the total time cost for task offloading, data processing, and result feedback. The resulting problem requires the joint design of task offloading, computing resource allocation, uplink beamforming, downlink beamforming, and common rate allocation. To solve the formulated nonconvex problem, we introduce several auxiliary variables and then construct accurate surrogates to smooth the achievable rate. Moreover, we derive the optimal computation resource allocation per user with closed-form expressions. On this basis, we recast the computing resource allocation and energy consumption at the base station to a convex constraint set. We finally develop an alternating optimization algorithm to update the auxiliary variable and inherent variable alternately. Because of their affordability and sustainability, renewable sources of energy are receiving a lot of study interest. Particularly, solar power plants are regarded as a type of renewable sources of energy that may be employed in many areas since, while requiring less space than traditional systems, they demand less money for installation and maintenance. The majority of small generating units control space occupancy by putting the machinery on an exposed terrace. However, acres of land is needed for the building of huge power producing stations. It is difficult for human workers to maintain such a huge region of a power plant. The suggested algorithm would assist human workers in identifying the consistency of energy production and failure or faulty areas in solar energy systems using IoT and database mining (DM) techniques. This enables immediate fault repair action to be taken, which increases producing station effectiveness.

This paper proposes a semi-Markov model of telecommunication network (TCN). The variant of dynamic traffic adaptive control of queuing system as a special case of TCN is considered. The main purpose of control is to minimize the average cost per unit of time to service the incoming flow of information (packets). This takes into account the different bandwidth of the channels, the processing speed of information in the channel and the information capacity of the buffers. The approach to the organization of dynamic control taking into account noise immunity (information reliability) and information security is discussed.

The rapid growth of AI-enabled Internet of Vehicles (IoV) calls for efficient machine learning (ML) solutions that can handle high vehicular mobility and decentralized data. This has motivated the emergence of Hierarchical Federated Learning over vehicle-edge-cloud architectures (VEC-HFL). Nevertheless, one aspect which is underexplored in the literature on VEC-HFL is that vehicles often need to execute multiple ML tasks simultaneously, where this multi-model training environment introduces crucial challenges. First, improper aggregation rules can lead to model obsolescence and prolonged training times. Second, vehicular mobility may result in inefficient data utilization by preventing the vehicles from returning their models to the network edge. Third, achieving a balanced resource allocation across diverse tasks becomes of paramount importance as it majorly affects the effectiveness of collaborative training. We take one of the first steps towards addressing these challenges via proposing a framework for multi-model training in dynamic VEC-HFL with the goal of minimizing global training latency while ensuring balanced training across various tasks—a problem that turns out to be NP-hard. To facilitate timely model training, we introduce a hybrid synchronous-asynchronous aggregation rule. Building on this, we present a novel method called Hybrid Evolutionary And gReedy allocaTion (HEART). The framework operates in two stages: first, it achieves balanced task scheduling through a hybrid heuristic approach that combines improved Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Genetic Algorithms (GA);second, it employs a low-complexity greedy algorithm to determine the training priority of assigned tasks on vehicles. Analog-on-Top Mixed Signal (AMS) Integrated Circuit (IC) design is a time-consuming process predominantly carried out by hand. Within this flow, usually, some area is reserved by the top-level integrator for the placement of digital blocks. Specific features of the area, such as size and shape, have a relevant impact on the possibility of implementing the digital logic with the required functionality. We present a Machine Learning (ML)-based evaluation methodology for predicting the feasibility of digital implementation using a set of high-level features. This approach aims to avoid time-consuming Place-and-Route trials, enabling rapid feedback between Digital and Analog Back-End designers during top-level placement.

An optimization-based algorithm for simultaneous shaping of poles and zeros for non-collocated vibration suppression

This article presents a control design method for simultaneous shaping of the poles and zeros of linear time-invariant systems, motivated by the application of non-collocated vibration suppression to flexible multi-body systems. An entire suppression of vibrations at a target mass for a given excitation frequencies can be recast into the problem of assigning zeros of the transfer function from the excitation force to the target mass' position. The design requirement of achieving sufficient damping in the closed loop system combined with suppressing vibrations at the target, leads to the minimization of the spectral abscissa function of the closed loop system as a function of the controller parameters, subject to zero location constraints. These constraints exhibit polynomial dependence on the controller parameters. We present two approaches to solve the optimization problem which are both based on constraint elimination followed by application of an algorithm for non-smooth unconstrained optimization. The design approach is applicable to delay-free models as well as time-delay models of retarded and neutral type. Simulations results illustrate its applicability to a spring-mass-damper system.

Facial expression recognition plays a pivotal role in comprehending emotions and social interactions, particularly in individuals grappling with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who often encounter challenges in non-verbal communication. For some with ASD, even subtle shifts in their facial expressions can prove elusive, rendering it arduous to categorize their emotional states accurately. Consequently, the analysis and processing of facial expression data hold the potential to facilitate early autism diagnosis, thereby enabling timely therapeutic interventions and alleviating the economic and psychological burdens experienced by patients. In this study, we introduce an enhanced approach that leverages a fuzzy convolutional neural network (CNN) and an Improved Binary Genetic Algorithm (IBGA) for autism diagnosis based on facial expression data. Our model confronts the intricate task of recognizing facial images by selecting salient features employing the IBGA method. Moreover, it employs fuzzy weights to ascertain the probability of similarity within the classifier layer. Our proposed model has yielded impressive outcomes, boasting an average accuracy of 0.9405 for ASD detection and 0.9365 for the recognition of six distinct facial expressions. These results hold profound implications for the enhancement of emotion recognition systems and the refinement of interventions aimed at bolstering social interactions for individuals grappling with ASD. © 2024, The Authors. Due to the influence of haze in winter, outdoor images usually lose contrast and fidelity. In view of the fact that most de-fog algorithms are not effective for images with large sky areas, an improved dark channel a priori de-fog method is proposed. First of all, the sky region is segmented according to the image gradient information, and on the basis of sky segmentation, the atmospheric light value is reasonably estimated by setting the discriminant formula combined with the high brightness and smoothness of atmospheric light reference pixels. Secondly, according to the different dark channel values, the piecewise linear function is used to dynamically modify the adjustable parameters to solve the local shadow caused by excessive defog. Then, the transmittance estimated by the bright channel model and the improved dark channel prior model are fused, and the edge is optimized by guided filtering. Finally, combined with the atmospheric scattering model, the defog image is obtained by brightness compensation and contrast stretching. The experimental results show that the improved method can effectively improve the image distortion, enhance the image contrast and details, especially in maintaining the visual authenticity of the sky region. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper deals with the automatic detection of Myotonia from a task based on the sudden opening of the hand. Data have been gathered from 44 subjects, divided into 17 controls and 27 myotonic patients, by measuring a 2-point articulation of each finger thanks to a calibrated sensory glove equipped with a Resistive Flex Sensor (RFS). RFS gloves are proven to be reliable in the analysis of motion for myotonic patients, which is a relevant task for the monitoring of the disease and subsequent treatment. With the focus on a healthy VS pathological comparison, customized features were extracted, and several classifications entailing motion data from single fingers, single articulations and aggregations were prepared. The pipeline employed a Correlation-based feature selector followed by a SVM classifier. Results prove that it’s possible to detect Myotonia, with aggregated data from four fingers and upper/lower articulations providing the most promising accuracies (91.1%).

This paper proposes a novel learning approach for designing Kazantzis-Kravaris/Luenberger (KKL) observers for autonomous nonlinear systems. The design of a KKL observer involves finding an injective map that transforms the system state into a higher-dimensional observer state, whose dynamics is linear and stable. The observer’s state is then mapped back to the original system coordinates via the inverse map to obtain the state estimate. However, finding this transformation and its inverse is quite challenging. We propose to sequentially approximate these maps by neural networks that are trained using physics-informed learning. We generate synthetic data for training by numerically solving the system and observer dynamics. Theoretical guarantees for the robustness of state estimation against approximation error and system uncertainties are provided. Additionally, a systematic method for optimizing observer performance through parameter selection is presented. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through numerical simulations on benchmark examples and its application to sensor fault detection and isolation in a network of Kuramoto oscillators using learned KKL observers. © 2025, CC BY.
