Genetic instability is one of the hallmarks of cancer, however mutations can occur for different causes and induce different effects. Mutational signatures are characteristic patterns of somatic mutations in cancer genomes, reflecting the underlying mutational processes. A mutational signature can be determined by studying the kind of mutations a patient has acquired during their life: patient stratification based on mutational signatures has become more and more useful in genomic studies, given its possible clinical implications. In this work we focused on Single Base Substitution (SBS) signatures to study a cohort of 115 metastatic melanoma patients. We inferred and identified two mutational signatures characterizing the patients. Based on these signatures we divided patients into two group: the bigger group was characterized by a signature associated with exposure to ultraviolet light, while the smaller group resulted to be mostly composed of patients which did not respond to immunotherapy (anti-PD1) and that presented a low mutational count. More importantly this second group showed a significantly worse survival outcome. The use of mutational signatures is clearly a powerful tool to identify disease sub-types that have a clinical relevance, however we believe that this topic needs further investigation focused on the characterization of patient subtypes with a multi-omics based approach. © 2023 IEEE.

Task assignment is a crucial aspect of mobile crowdsourcing research. The focus is on allocating appropriate perceptual tasks based on task and worker characteristics to optimize perceptual quality. Tasks arrive dynamically in a crowdsourcing system, and the platform cannot assign all tasks at the beginning. This can lead to the task allocation process falling into a local optimal solution. To address the problem, this paper proposes a two-stage prediction algorithm that utilises historical spatio-temporal data of crowdsourcing services. Firstly, the temporal data is converted into image data through Markov Transition Field. Then, the task availability is transformed into a categorisation problem. In the first stage, a ConvNeXt-based network is used to predict the task availability. In the second stage, a GRU-based network is used to predict the task duration. This paper presents the results of several experiments that confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In computer vision,emotion recognition using facial expression images is considered an important research *** learning advances in recent years have aided in attaining improved results in this *** to recent studies,multiple facial expressions may be included in facial photographs representing a particular type of *** is feasible and useful to convert face photos into collections of visual words and carry out global expression *** main contribution of this paper is to propose a facial expression recognitionmodel(FERM)depending on an optimized Support Vector Machine(SVM).To test the performance of the proposed model(FERM),AffectNet is *** uses 1250 emotion-related keywords in six different languages to search three major search engines and get over 1,000,000 facial photos *** FERM is composed of three main phases:(i)the Data preparation phase,(ii)Applying grid search for optimization,and(iii)the categorization *** discriminant analysis(LDA)is used to categorize the data into eight labels(neutral,happy,sad,surprised,fear,disgust,angry,and contempt).Due to using LDA,the performance of categorization via SVM has been obviously *** search is used to find the optimal values for hyperparameters of SVM(C and gamma).The proposed optimized SVM algorithm has achieved an accuracy of 99%and a 98%F1 score.

In this note, we present the synthesis of secure-by-construction controllers that address safety and security properties simultaneously in cyber-physical systems. Our focus is on studying a specific security property called opacity, which characterizes the system's ability to maintain plausible deniability of its secret behavior in the presence of an intruder. These controllers are synthesized based on a concept of so-called (augmented) control barrier functions. We propose conditions that facilitate the construction of the desired (augmented) control barrier functions and their corresponding secure-by-construction controllers. To compute these functions, we propose an iterative scheme that leverages iterative sum-of-square programming techniques. This approach enables efficient computation of these functions, particularly for polynomial systems. Finally, we validate the effectiveness of our results through a case study of a vehicle. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Obstacles on railways present significant safety risks. In particular, Taiwan Railways (TR) often faces natural and man-made obstructions. While advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models offer precise detection, their high computational demands limit deployment. Thus, lightweight convolutional neural network (CNN) models have been developed, balancing detection accuracy with hardware efficiency. Utilizing feature-extracting preprocessing, these models achieve F2 scores above 0.89 and recalls over 0.9, while maintaining computational complexity under 15 MFLOPs and model sizes within 25 kB. This ensures compatibility with standard PCs and low-cost, low-power systems, enabling widespread deployment in regions lacking advanced AI monitoring. Additionally, TR's aging block and train-tracking systems, which are prone to failures, are enhanced with a power-saving radio frequency identification(RFID) system compatible with the CNN detector and Bluetooth-enabled passenger displays. This modernizes TR's infrastructure, improving safety operations and travel-information reliability. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper,a two-step control method is proposed,leveraging the generalized Halanay inequality and existing finite-time stability theorems,to achieve finite-time synchronization for a class of neural networks with bounded time-varying *** the first step,the system state is attenuated from V （t0） to γV （t0） using the generalized Halanay inequality,where0<γ 1 is a free *** the second step,by applying existing finite-time stability theorems,the system state further decays from γV （t0） to *** on the above ideas,two novel finite-time stability lemmas for the error system are presented,and the convergence rate as well as the settling time is ***,the value of γ that results in the shortest settling time for the error system is also *** the help of the derived lemmas,several sufficient algebraic criteria are established to achieve finite-time synchronization between the considered delayed neural *** results of this paper not only improve the existing two-step control method but also overcome the limitations of certain one-step finite-time control ***,the validity and practical applicability of the obtained theoretical results are demonstrated through two numerical examples and an image protection experiment.

Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) static random-access memory (SRAM) based Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) technology has been widely used within the space industry due to its cost-effectiveness and high-performance attributes. However, its original design primarily caters to benign operating environments. The deleterious impact of space radiation, particularly the single-event effect (SEE), poses a significant threat to the operational reliability of SRAM-FPGA devices in space applications. In order to fortify these devices against the challenges of the space radiation environment and ensure the utmost system reliability, this paper initiates by providing an overview of the SEE-related issues pertaining to SRAM-FPGA and offers insights into general hardening design solutions. Subsequently, this paper introduces a comprehensive multi-level SEE hardening design strategy, encompassing component selection, as well as hardware and software hardening methods at the board-level. Furthermore, it delves into system-level design protective measures. A real-world case study is presented to exemplify the practical implementation of these hardening techniques that enhance system reliability. © 2023 IEEE.
