This paper address a comprehensive solution to address data privacy and security challenges in data science, providing secure self-destruction of sensitive data, confidentiality through encryption, and flexible control over message destruction. Based on outsourcing cloud data services, we introduce a cloud retrograde storage (CRS) system for privacy-preserving self-destruction of sensitive data. The CRS is based on a frequently colliding hash table and recycle pool, and supports remote time, count, and range control. Hereby, we provide a remotely controllable mechanism for the prompt destruction of inactive messages against digital forensics without reducing the availability of services. The method used in the CRS involves storing messages in a recycle pool, where they are automatically erased at the end of their validity period or after being viewed by all recipients. The system also incorporates encryption and decryption processes to ensure confidentiality. The result of performance evaluation shows that the CRS effectively handles the destruction of messages and provides secure data removal from storage pools. The experiments demonstrate the efficiency and practicality of the CRS for large-scale data services. © 2023 IEEE.

HG3-NeRF: Hierarchical Geometric, Semantic, and Photometric Guided Neural Radiance Fields for Sparse View Inputs

Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) have garnered considerable attention as a paradigm for novel view synthesis by learning scene representations from discrete observations. Nevertheless, NeRF exhibit pronounced performance degradation when confronted with sparse view inputs, consequently curtailing its further applicability. In this work, we introduce Hierarchical Geometric, Semantic, and Photometric Guided NeRF (HG3-NeRF), a novel methodology that can address the aforementioned limitation and enhance consistency of geometry, semantic content, and appearance across different views. We propose Hierarchical Geometric Guidance (HGG) to incorporate the attachment of Structure from Motion (SfM), namely sparse depth prior, into the scene representations. Different from direct depth supervision, HGG samples volume points from local-to-global geometric regions, mitigating the misalignment caused by inherent bias in the depth prior. Furthermore, we draw inspiration from notable variations in semantic consistency observed across images of different resolutions and propose Hierarchical Semantic Guidance (HSG) to learn the coarse-to-fine semantic content, which corresponds to the coarse-to-fine scene representations. Experimental results demonstrate that HG3-NeRF can outperform other state-of-the-art methods on different standard benchmarks and achieve high-fidelity synthesis results for sparse view inputs. The target of reducing travel time only is insufficient to support the development of future smart transportation systems. To align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDG), a further reduction in fuel consumption and emissions, improvements in traffic safety, and the ease of infrastructure deployment and maintenance should also be considered. Most existing research in sustainable urban traffic control adjusts either traffic light signals or vehicle speed. Adaptive traffic light signal control can increase the intersection throughput and reduce travel time as well as energy consumption and emissions. Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs) can proactively control vehicle acceleration to achieve more stable traffic nearby with relatively higher driving velocity (i.e., lower fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions) and maintain a safe distance from the surrounding traffic (i.e., longer time-to-collision).

This paper presents the design and implementation of a novel matrix-friendly genetic algorithm (MGA) based population input memristor circuit. Selection, crossover and mutation operations can be efficiently implemented in MGA by utilizing the unique properties of memristors. The proposed circuit performs well in solving binary nonconvex function optimization problems. Through extensive simulations and comparisons with classical optimization algorithms, our method improves about 4.24% on average in exploring the optimal fitness value, which reflects the advantages of the method in finding the optimal solution. In addition, the existence of its function to visualize the image of a one-dimensional function is also found during the experimental process. The proposed circuit has good scalability and flexibility, demonstrating its potential for a wide range of applications in complex optimization tasks.

Measurement of drilling parameters in complex structured workpieces using a clustering method of boundary points based on shrinking neighborhood circles

High precision is essential for measuring drilled hole positions and dimensions in spacecraft manufacturing. The variety of workpieces and the complexity of their surfaces make this measurement quite challenging. In this study, we propose a portable, low-cost, non-contact automatic method for measuring drilled hole parameters on complex structures based on machine vision technology. To improve efficiency, high-definition images of the workpiece are captured using a smartphone, and a 3D model is generated. We define neighborhood circles for boundary point detection and shrunk overly large neighborhood circles to use them for boundary point clustering. An iterative circle fitting method based on fitting degree (ICFBFD) is proposed to improve accuracy. Simulation results show our clustering method outperforms k-means, agglomerative, and DBSCAN in terms of accuracy and other metrics, while ICFBFD reduces errors compared to other common fitting methods. The average absolute errors in practical experiments are under 0.05 mm, meeting engineering requirements. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

Boundary feature fusion network for tooth image segmentation

Tooth segmentation is a critical technology in the field of medical image segmentation, with applications ranging from orthodontic treatment to human body identification and dental pathology assessment. Despite the development of numerous tooth image segmentation models by researchers, a common shortcoming is the failure to account for the challenges of blurred tooth boundaries. Dental diagnostics require precise delineation of tooth boundaries. This paper introduces an innovative tooth segmentation network that integrates boundary information to address the issue of indistinct boundaries between teeth and adjacent tissues. This network’s core is its boundary feature extraction module, which is designed to extract detailed boundary information from high-level features. Concurrently, the feature cross-fusion module merges detailed boundary and global semantic information in a synergistic way, allowing for stepwise layer transfer of feature information. This method results in precise tooth segmentation. In the most recent STS Data Challenge, our methodology was rigorously tested and received a commendable overall score of 0.91. When compared to other existing approaches, this score demonstrates our method’s significant superiority in segmenting tooth boundaries. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The increasing popularity of electric vehicles (EVs) has led to a growing need for electrified transportation, which has further deepened the interconnectedness of power and transportation networks. To account for EV drivers' preferences in route selection, this paper proposes an environment-aware dispatch model that coordinates the integrated power and transportation network to achieve greater economic benefits and increased utilization of renewable energy. The model employs discrete choice models with an environmental factor to represent user behavior. The constructed user behavior models serve as the basis for the integrated optimal traffic-power flow (IOTPF) model, which aims to optimize the flow of both power and traffic while minimizing the total cost of EV travel and maximizing the use of renewable energy sources. The paper employs a decentralized optimization algorithm to solve the equilibrium flows of the IOTPF model. Numerical results illustrate how the environment-aware user behavior impacts travel costs and the use of renewable energy, demonstrating the effectiveness of the IOTPF model in coordinating the optimal strategy of the integrated power-transportation network. © 2023 IEEE.

Seizure is an abnormal electrical activity of the brain. Neurologists can diagnose the seizure using several methods such as neurological examination, blood tests, computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG). Medical data, such as the EEG signal, usually includes a number of features and attributes that do not contains important information. This paper proposes an automatic seizure classification system based on extracting the most significant EEG features for seizure diagnosis. The proposed algorithm consists of five steps. The first step is the channel selection to minimize dimensionality by selecting the most affected channels using the variance parameter. The second step is the feature extraction to extract the most relevant features, 11 features, from the selected channels. The third step is to average the 11 features extracted from each channel. Next, the fourth step is the classification of the average features using the classification step. Finally, cross-validation and testing the proposed algorithm by dividing the dataset into training and testing sets. This paper presents a comparative study of seven classifiers. These classifiers were tested using two different methods: random case testing and continuous case testing. In the random case process, the KNN classifier had greater precision, specificity, positive predictability than the other classifiers. Still, the ensemble classifier had a higher sensitivity and a lower miss-rate (2.3%) than the other classifiers. For the continuous case test method, the ensemble classifier had higher metric parameters than the other classifiers. In addition, the ensemble classifier was able to detect all seizure cases without any mistake. © 2021, The Author(s).

With the widespread use of escalators in daily life, escalator-related injury factors are threatening public health. To secure escalator system, most of existing studies focus on post hoc statistics and trend to fix these deficiencies to reduce escalator-related potential risks. However, they are not designed for early-stage detection of impending escalator unsafe factors. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an improved Single Shot MultiBox Detector (SSD) algorithm for anomaly detection of passenger posture on escalators. Firstly, we replace the widely used VGG16 backbone of SSD network by simpler MobileNetV2 to accelerate model inference. Secondly, the distance intersection over Union (DIoU) loss function is introduced to further improve performance. Based on the characteristics of IoU and considering the shortcomings of GIoU, DIoU directly regresses the Euclidean distance between the center points of the two boxes to accelerate the convergence. The experimental results show that the improved SSD escalator passenger posture anomaly detection algorithm can efficiently identify the dangerous posture of escalator passengers and start relevant safety protection measures. According to inference of model, the escalator system can be controlled in practice to formulate the corresponding safety protection measures, and improve the safety performance of the escalator operation. © 2022 IEEE.
