Combining decomposition and graph capsule network for multi-objective vehicle routing optimization

In order to alleviate urban congestion, improve vehicle mobility, and improve logistics delivery efficiency, this paper establishes a practical multi-objective and multi constraint logistics delivery mathematical model based on graphs, and proposes a solution algorithm framework that combines decomposition strategy and deep reinforcement learning (DRL). Firstly, taking into account the actual multiple constraints such as customer distribution, vehicle load constraints, and time windows in urban logistics distribution regions, a multi constraint and multi-objective urban logistics distribution mathematical model was established with the goal of minimizing the total length, cost, and maximum makespan of urban logistics distribution paths. Secondly, based on the decomposition strategy, a DRL framework for optimizing urban logistics delivery paths based on Graph Capsule Network (G-Caps Net) was designed. This framework takes the node information of VRP as input in the form of a 2D graph, modifies the graph attention capsule network by considering multi-layer features, edge information, and residual connections between layers in the graph structure, and replaces probability calculation with the module length of the capsule vector as output. Then, the baseline REINFORCE algorithm with rollout is used for network training, and a 2-opt local search strategy and sampling search strategy are used to improve the quality of the solution. Finally, the performance of the proposed method was evaluated on standard examples of problems of different scales. The experimental results showed that the constructed model and solution framework can improve logistics delivery efficiency. This method achieved the best comprehensive performance, surpassing the most advanced distress methods, and has great potential in practical engineering. © 2024 – IOS Press. All rights reserved.

Language-queried target sound extraction (TSE) aims to extract specific sounds from mixtures based on language queries. Traditional fully-supervised training schemes require extensively annotated parallel audio-text data, which are labor-intensive. We introduce a parallel-data-free training scheme, requiring only unlabelled audio clips for TSE model training by utilizing the contrastive language-audio pre-trained model (CLAP). In a vanilla parallel-data-free training stage, target audio is encoded using the pre-trained CLAP audio encoder to form a condition embedding, while during testing, user language queries are encoded by CLAP text encoder as the condition embedding. This vanilla approach assumes perfect alignment between text and audio embeddings, which is unrealistic. Two major challenges arise from training-testing mismatch: the persistent modality gap between text and audio and the risk of overfitting due to the exposure of rich acoustic details in target audio embedding during training. To address this, we propose a retrieval-augmented strategy. Specifically, we create an embedding cache using audio captions generated by a large language model (LLM). During training, target audio embeddings retrieve text embeddings from this cache to use as condition embeddings, ensuring consistent modalities between training and testing and eliminating information leakage. Extensive experiment results show that our retrieval-augmented approach achieves consistent and notable performance improvements over existing state-of-the-art with better generalizability. © 2025 IEEE.

Efficient Coordination and Synchronization of Multi-Robot Systems Under Recurring Linear Temporal Logic

We consider multi-robot systems under recurring tasks formalized as linear temporal logic (LTL) specifications. To solve the planning problem efficiently, we propose a bottom-up approach combining offline plan synthesis with online coordination, dynamically adjusting plans via real-time communication. To address action delays, we introduce a synchronization mechanism ensuring coordinated task execution, leading to a multi-agent coordination and synchronization framework that is adaptable to a wide range of multi-robot applications. The software package is developed in Python and ROS2 for broad deployment. We validate our findings through lab experiments involving nine robots showing enhanced adaptability compared to previous methods. Additionally, we conduct simulations with up to ninety agents to demonstrate the reduced computational complexity and the scalability features of our work. © 2025, CC BY.

This paper proposes a comprehensive methodology for Field-Oriented control (FOC) with parameter variation analysis for Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (IPMSM). The modeling approach for an IPMSM is first presented, followed by a step-by-step procedure for designing a vector-controlled strategy. The formulation is based on a dq-rotating reference frame aligned with the rotor shaft position. A key distinction of this methodology from traditional approaches is that the current controller is designed in the time domain based on desired time constants, while the speed control is formulated within a frequency response domain framework. The proposed hybrid approach enables accurate tuning of the Proportional-Integrator (PI) controllers for both current and speed control loops. Additionally, a parameter variation analysis is conducted to enhance the proposed methodology. The validity region for the design procedure is presented, ensuring that for any wide speed variation of the machine, loop gains are properly tuned. One of the main advantages of the proposed methodology is that it provides a fast, reliable, and accurate technique for implementing IPMSM drive systems. Results from a controller Hardware-in-the-Loop (C-HIL) setup with an external microcontroller are presented. The comprehensive design approach is validated under two different IPMSM parameter sets, demonstrating its effectiveness.

The joint optimization of sensor poses and 3D structure is fundamental for state estimation in robotics and related fields. Current LiDAR systems often prioritize pose optimization, with structure refinement either omitted or treated separately using representations like signed distance functions or neural networks. This paper introduces a framework for simultaneous optimization of sensor poses and 3D map, represented as surfels. A generalized LiDAR uncertainty model is proposed to address degraded or less reliable measurements in varying scenarios. Experimental results on public datasets demonstrate improved performance over most comparable state-of-the-art methods. In this paper, the problem of backward compatibility of active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) is investigated. The goal is to contextualize ADRC to deliver its interpretations from the established field of linear control systems. For this study, a control algorithm, denoted here as integral disturbance rejection control (IDRC), is considered that combines classical state-feedback control with an integral compensator. At first, an interpretation of ADRC is involved in terms of existing state-space control approaches. Next, a transition to the frequency domain is performed, which is justified as a significant part of practical control engineering is conducted in that domain. For assumed specific plant structures, both ADRC and IDRC are then holistically compared in terms of transfer function representation and frequency characteristics, as well as steady-state convergence conditions. Such a juxtaposition helps to highlight the similarities and differences of both approaches, whereas the utilized bandwidth parameterization is shown to bring the control system to the same form, thus indicating some interesting practical aspects. Finally, the theoretical results concerning both considered control structures are validated in a set of numerical simulations and experiments conducted on a laboratory hardware testbed. © 2025 The Author(s).

This study investigates the degradation mechanisms of gate oxide in n-channel MOSFETs subjected to Fowler-Nordheim constant current stress to introduce uniformly distributed defects. Different techniques were used to characterise the impact of stress-induced defects on the electrical properties of MOSFETs. The findings reveal distinct degradation behaviors, with early-stage negative shifts in threshold voltage attributed to hole trapping, transitioning to positive shifts due to interface state generation at higher electron fluence. The study also emphasises the factors that influence device performance. The results enhance our understanding of gate oxide reliability under high-field stress, as well as the mechanisms of defect creation and charge trapping in MOSFETs.

Admittance Identification of Grid-Forming Inverters Using Time and Frequency-Domain Techniques

The increasing integration of inverter-based resources (IBRs) into the power grid introduces new challenges, requiring detailed electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies to analyze system interactions. Despite these needs, access to the internal firmware of power electronic devices remains restricted due to stringent nondisclosure agreements enforced by manufacturers. To address this, we explore three system identification techniques: sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA), step excitation method (SEM), and eigensystem realization algorithm (ERA). SFRA employs sinusoidal signals of varying frequencies to measure the system’s frequency response, while SEM and ERA utilize step functions to derive time-domain responses and transform them into Laplace-domain transfer functions. All three approaches are shown to provide consistent results in identifying the dq admittance of grid-forming inverters (GFM) over a frequency range of 1 Hz to 100 Hz. Copyright © 2025, The Authors. Cerebrovascular accident (CVA), commonly known as stroke, stands as a significant contributor to contemporary mortality and morbidity rates, often leading to lasting disabilities. Early identification is crucial in mitigating its impact and reducing mortality. Non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) remains the primary diagnostic tool in stroke emergencies due to its speed, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness. NCCT enables the exclusion of hemorrhage and directs attention to ischemic causes resulting from arterial flow obstruction. Quantification of NCCT findings employs the Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS), which evaluates affected brain structures. This study seeks to identify early alterations in NCCT density in patients with stroke symptoms using a binary classifier distinguishing NCCT scans with and without stroke. To achieve this, various well-known deep learning architectures, namely VGG3D, ResNet3D, and DenseNet3D, validated in the ImageNet challenges, are implemented with 3D images covering the entire brain volume. The training results of these networks are presented, wherein diverse parameters are examined for optimal performance. The DenseNet3D network emerges as the most effective model, attaining a training set accuracy of 98% and a test set accuracy of 95%. The aim is to alert medical professionals to potential stroke cases in their early stages based on NCCT findings displaying altered density patterns. © The Author(s) 2025.

Introducing interactivity in the education process makes the learning more successful and enjoyable. MATLAB provides an effective environment for learning and applying different disciplines. control101 is a new MATLAB toolbox under development which provides tools for interactive learning of control disciplines. This paper presents the framework for teaching discrete control algorithms applied for processes containing large dead times.
