An Extended Stochastic Region of Attraction Estimation Method for Power Systems Under Stochastic Sustained Disturbances

Stochastic sustained disturbances (SSDs) in renewable energy output impact power system transient stability. This study addresses the dynamic performance of power systems under SSDs using Lévy-driven stochastic differential algebraic equations (LDSDAEs). The stochastic region of attraction for LDSDAEs is divided into a stable region and a probabilistically stable region, collectively termed the extended stochastic region of attraction (ESRA). Traditional methods for estimating the deterministic region of attraction (RA) are inadequate. To address this issue, this study proposes an estimation method for the ESRA of LDSDAEs based on escape probability. We first derive an integro-differential equation for escape probabilities of initial system states near the attractor of LDSDAEs. We then explore the connection between escape probability and ESRA. Finally, we propose a wavelet basis functions-based extended projection method to solve the integro-differential equation, providing an analytical expression for escape probabilities and thus determining the ESRA. Case studies on the modified IEEE 39- and 118-bus systems demonstrate the proposed method's high computational accuracy and efficiency for power systems under Lévy disturbances. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

The recent surge in 3D data acquisition has spurred the development of geometric deep learning models for point cloud processing, boosted by the remarkable success of transformers in natural language processing. While point cloud transformers (PTs) have achieved impressive results recently, their quadratic scaling with respect to the point cloud size poses a significant scalability challenge for real-world applications. To address this issue, we propose the Adaptive Point Cloud Transformer (AdaPT), a standard PT model augmented by an adaptive token selection mechanism. AdaPT dynamically reduces the number of tokens during inference, enabling efficient processing of large point clouds. Furthermore, we introduce a budget mechanism to flexibly adjust the computational cost of the model at inference time without the need for retraining or fine-tuning separate models. Our extensive experimental evaluation on point cloud classification tasks demonstrates that AdaPT significantly reduces computational complexity while maintaining competitive accuracy compared to standard PTs. Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) applications encounter issues with data protection, continual adaptation, and domain-specific knowledge retention, especially in consumer-centric IoMT scenarios. We overcome these obstacles and facilitate effective knowledge retention and task adaptation in IoMT applications. This study attempts to create a unique privacy-preserving federated learning framework that combines a hierarchical learning structure with Continual Learning (CL). Despite the advancements in Federated Learning (FL), current models have trouble integrating changing datasets in real-time while protecting privacy, as well as catastrophic forgetting, which occurs when previously learned knowledge is lost when adjusting to new tasks. We present a hierarchical learning framework that makes use of three levels of models -Junior Model (JM), Consultant Model (CM), and Senior Consultant Model (SCM) -to overcome these drawbacks. Each level of the model aids in archived retention and domain-knowledge adaptation. To guarantee that the model maintains valuable information over time and adapts to new tasks with ease, our method blends domain adaptation strategies with ongoing learning approaches like knowledge distillation and elastic weight consolidation (EWC). We compare the suggested methodology with current state-of-the-art (SOTA) models on healthcare datasets for tasks like illness diagnosis and medical image categorization. According to our findings, the hierarchical continual learning model performs better than SOTA techniques in terms of accuracy, task adaptability, and privacy protection. In the healthcare industry, our study sets a new standard for privacy-preserving, continuously adaptable federated learning systems, allowing for real-time, scalable IoMT applications that can adapt dynamically to a variety of changing datasets. © 1975-2011 IEEE.

The rapid digitization of healthcare systems has led to a vast accumulation of electronic medical records (EMRs), offering an invaluable source of patient data that can significantly advance medical research and improve patient care. However, sharing EMRs for research purposes presents challenges, particularly concerning data privacy, security, and the limitations of traditional centralized data-sharing models. This paper introduces a novel approach that leverages blockchain technology to facilitate federated learning with EMRs, thereby addressing these challenges. Federated learning enables multiple institutions to collaboratively train a robust machine learning model without sharing raw data, preserving privacy and security. By integrating blockchain, this framework enhances data integrity, immutability, and trust, all in a decentralized environment. The blockchain serves as a transparent and secure ledger, recording model updates and aggregating them through a consensus-based mechanism. Smart contracts further enforce data usage policies, allowing only authorized access and maintaining control over data ownership and sharing. This approach empowers medical researchers and institutions to collaborate more effectively, accelerating the discovery of treatments, advancements in personalized medicine, and insights into rare diseases. It also enables patients to contribute to medical research while retaining control over their personal data, fostering a patient-centered approach to healthcare innovation. Experimental results confirm the efficacy and efficiency of this blockchain-enabled federated learning framework, highlighting its potential to transform medical research and adhere to stringent privacy and security standards. This study emphasizes the pivotal role of blockchain in enhancing big data analytics within healthcare, paving the way for improved collaboration, innovation, and patient outcomes. © 2025 IEEE.

Data-Driven Learning and control with Event-Triggered Measurements

Event-triggered control has attracted considerable attention for its effectiveness in resource-restricted applications. To make event-triggered control as an end-to-end solution, a key issue is how to effectively learn unknown system dynamics from event-triggered measurements and consequently, develop a learning-based event-triggered controller. Existing works learn system dynamics based on periodic time-triggered measurements, and it is yet to know how to learn a controller with performance guarantee based on event-triggered measurements. To address this issue, we consider the problem of learning an event-triggered state feedback controller for an unknown linear system based on event-triggered state measurements in this work. In particular, we first analyze the event-triggered measurements within a set-membership framework. We prove that the estimation error belongs to a bounded ellipsoid determined by the historical measurements and the event-triggering condition. Subsequently, we demonstrate that all admissible systems compatible with the collected data samples can be explicitly represented in the form of quadratic matrix inequalities using the state estimates. With the acquired set of admissible systems, a co-design problem for the data-driven controller and event-triggering condition is solved using the linear matrix inequality technique, with guaranteed closed-loop stability and L2-gain performance. Finally, numerical examples and comparisons are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed event-triggered learning and control approach. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

System Level Synthesis for Affine control Policies: Model Based and Data-Driven Settings

There is an increasing need for effective control of systems with complex dynamics, particularly through data-driven approaches. System Level Synthesis (SLS) has emerged as a powerful framework that facilitates the control of large-scale systems while accounting for model uncertainties. SLS approaches are currently limited to linear systems and time-varying linear control policies, thus limiting the class of achievable control strategies. We introduce a novel closed-loop parameterization for time-varying affine control policies, extending the SLS framework to a broader class of systems and policies. We show that the closed-loop behavior under affine policies can be equivalently characterized using past system trajectories, enabling a fully data-driven formulation. This parameterization seamlessly integrates affine policies into optimal control problems, allowing for a closed-loop formulation of general Model Predictive control (MPC) problems. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to extend SLS to affine policies in both model-based and data-driven settings, enabling an equivalent formulation of MPC problems using closed-loop maps. We validate our approach through numerical experiments, demonstrating that our model-based and data-driven affine SLS formulations achieve performance on par with traditional model-based MPC. © 2025, CC BY.

Learning from Heterogeneity: A Dynamic Learning Framework for Hypergraphs

Graph neural network (GNN) has gained increasing popularity in recent years owing to its capability and flexibility in modeling complex graph structure data. Among all graph learning methods, hypergraph learning is a technique for exploring the implicit higher-order correlations when training the embedding space of the graph. In this paper, we propose a hypergraph learning framework named Learning from Heterogeneity (LFH) that is capable of dynamic hyperedge construction and attentive embedding update utilizing the heterogeneity attributes of the graph. Specifically, in our framework, the high-quality features are first generated by the pairwise fusion strategy that utilizes explicit graph structure information when generating initial node embedding. Afterwards, a hypergraph is constructed through the dynamic grouping of implicit hyperedges, followed by the type-specific hypergraph learning process. To evaluate the effectiveness of our proposed framework, we conduct comprehensive experiments on several popular datasets with twelve state-of-the- art models on both node classification and link prediction tasks, which fall into categories of homogeneous pairwise graph learning, heterogeneous pairwise graph learning, and hypergraph learning. The experiment results demonstrate a significant performance gain (an average of 12.9% in node classification and 12.8% in link prediction) compared with recent state-of-the-art methods. © 2020 IEEE.

Polypharmacy is a common means of clinical treatments, but detecting drug-drug interactions (DDIs) behind unexpected effects can be costly and faces clinical limitations. Recently, graph neural networks (GNNs) have demonstrated encouraging performance in predicting DDIs. However, most studies overlook the comprehensive aspects of DDIs, such as the coexistence of types of pharmacological changes and the asymmetric roles of drugs. In this article, we define new prediction tasks, taking into account both enhancive or depressive changes and the roles of drugs, and then establish spectral GNNs to predict comprehensive information of DDIs. First, we formally define several tasks, including joint prediction tasks designed to leverage both types and directions. These tasks deduce to sub-tasks in previous studies. Then, we propose a unified framework, the MKMGCN-DDI, via introducing two Magnetic Laplacian matrices to encode comprehension information within DDIs, defining multiple graph filters, and designing multiple-kernel based Magnetic graph convolutional networks (MKMGCN). Experiments across three datasets show that it not only has good adaptability to multiple tasks but also significantly improves results on simple tasks. Case studies on breast neoplasms and lung neoplasms verify its feasibility, as over half of top-10 items are supported.

Incomplete multi-view clustering (IMVC) has garnered increasing attention in recent years due to the common issue of missing data in multi-view datasets. The primary approach to address this challenge involves recovering the missing views before applying conventional multi-view clustering methods. Although imputation-based IMVC methods have achieved significant improvements, they still encounter notable limitations: 1) heavy reliance on paired data for training the data recovery module, which is impractical in real scenarios with high missing data rates;2) the generated data often lacks diversity and discriminability, resulting in suboptimal clustering results. To address these shortcomings, we propose a novel IMVC method called Diffusion Contrastive Generation (DCG). Motivated by the consistency between the diffusion and clustering processes, DCG learns the distribution characteristics to enhance clustering by applying forward diffusion and reverse denoising processes to intra-view data. By performing contrastive learning on a limited set of paired multi-view samples, DCG can align the generated views with the real views, facilitating accurate recovery of views across arbitrary missing view scenarios. Additionally, DCG integrates instance-level and category-level interactive learning to exploit the consistent and complementary information available in multi-view data, achieving robust and end-to-end clustering.
