This paper describes a formation of hybrid coatings on a Ti-2Ta-3Zr-36Nb *** is accomplished by plasma electrolytic oxidation and a dip-coating technique with poly(adipic anhydride)((C6H8O3)n)that is loaded with drugs:amoxicillin(C16H19N3O5S),cefazolin(C14H14N8O4S3)or vancomycin(C66H75Cl2N9O24·xHCl).The characteristic microstructure of the polymer was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and confocal *** on the surface treatment,the surface roughness varied(between 1.53μm and 2.06μm),and the wettability was change with the over of time.X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis showed that the oxide layer did not affect the polymer layer or loaded ***,the drugs lose their stability in a phosphate-buffered saline solution after 6.5 h of exposure,and its decrease was greater than 7%(HPLC analysis).The stability,drug release and concentration of the drug loaded into the material were precisely analyzed by high-performance liquid *** results correlated with the degradation of the polymer in which the addition of drugs caused the percent of degraded polymer to be between 35.5%and 49.4%after 1 h of material immersion,depending on the mass of the loaded drug and various biological responses that were ***,all of the coatings were cytocompatible with MG-63 osteoblast-like *** drug concentrations released from the coatings were sufficient to inhibit adhesion of reference and clinical bacterial strains(***).The coatings with amoxicillin showed the best results in the bacterial inhibition zone,whereas coatings with cefazolin inhibited adhesion of the above bacteria on the surface.

When smoothness is not enough: Toward exact quantification and optimization of the price-of-anarchy

Today's multiagent systems have grown too complex to rely on centralized controllers, prompting increasing interest in the design of distributed algorithms. In this respect, game theory has emerged as a valuable tool to complement more traditional techniques. The fundamental idea behind this approach is the assignment of agents' local cost functions, such that their selfish minimization attains, or is provably close to, the global objective. Any algorithm capable of computing an equilibrium of the corresponding game inherits an approximation ratio that is, in the worst case, equal to its price-of-anarchy. Therefore, a successful application of the game design approach hinges on the possibility to quantify and optimize the equilibrium performance. Toward this end, we introduce the notion of generalized smoothness, and show that the resulting efficiency bounds are significantly tighter compared to those obtained using the traditional smoothness approach. Leveraging this newly-introduced notion, we quantify the equilibrium performance for the class of local resource allocation games. Finally, we show how the agents' local decision rules can be designed in order to optimize the efficiency of the corresponding equilibria, by means of a tractable linear program. Distributed transaction model has gradually replaced the traditional centralized transaction model and has become the leading direction of development in energy trading. As the underlying support, blockchain technology is attracting more and more attention due to its advantages, i.e., integrity and non-repudiation. However, most blockchain-based trading models face the problem of privacy protection. In this paper, to solve this problem, Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption (CP-ABE) is introduced as the core algorithm to reconstruct the transaction model. Specifically, we build a general model for distributed transaction called PP-BCTS (Privacy-Preserving Blockchain Trading Scheme). It can achieve fine-grained access control through transaction arbitration in ciphertext form. This design can maximize the protection of private information and can greatly improve the security and reliability of the transaction model. Additionally, a credibility-based equity proof consensus mechanism is proposed in PP-BCTS, which can greatly improve the operational efficiency. Security analysis and experimental evaluations are conducted to prove the validity and practicability of our proposed scheme.

Over the years, industrial automation has repeatedly been impacted by the continuous and tremendous evolution in the fields of computer systems, electronics and data transmission. Industry 4.0, the current wave of the industrial revolution- dubbed the data revolution -, integrates these advances in communication and computational systems with the Internet, resulting in a paradigm shift towards the (Industrial) Internet of Things. Automation systems and remote data acquisition systems evolved over the last years from classic solutions based on wired infrastructure to modern, flexible solutions bringing together wireless communications, battery powered devices and wireless sensors networks. In this paper we first define the main problems encountered in modern wireless automation systems - small distance limitations of wireless communication solutions, weak security or complete lack of security in data transmission, and high energy consumption of battery powered remote data acquisition systems. In order to address these limitations, we propose, implement, trial-run and benchmark a novel low power LoRa-based flexible hardware architecture for use in industrial remote monitoring and control. We obtain a LoS capability above 3km and a calculated autonomy of about 10 years, exceeding the capabilities of current State of the Art solutions.

Reduced reference perceptual quality model and application to rate control for 3D point cloud compression

In rate-distortion optimization, the encoder settings are determined by maximizing a reconstruction quality measure subject to a constraint on the bit rate. One of the main challenges of this approach is to define a quality measure that can be computed with low computational cost and which correlates well with perceptual quality. While several quality measures that fulfil these two criteria have been developed for images and video, no such one exists for 3D point clouds. We address this limitation for the video-based point cloud compression (V-PCC) standard by proposing a linear perceptual quality model whose variables are the V-PCC geometry and color quantization parameters and whose coefficients can easily be computed from two features extracted from the original 3D point cloud. Subjective quality tests with 400 compressed 3D point clouds show that the proposed model correlates well with the mean opinion score, outperforming state-of-the-art full reference objective measures in terms of Spearman rank-order and Pearson¡¯s linear correlation coefficient. Moreover, we show that for the same target bit rate, rate-distortion optimization based on the proposed model offers higher perceptual quality than rate-distortion optimization based on exhaustive search with a point-to-point objective quality metric. © 2020, CC-BY.

In this paper we consider the complexity of verifying the property of AA-diagnosability in probabilistic finite automata and establish that AA-diagnosability is, in general, a PSPACE-hard problem. In deterministic and nondeterministic finite automata, the property of diagnosability captures our ability to determine, based on our observation of the activity in a given finite automaton, the occurrence of any fault event, at least if we wait for at most a finite number of events (following the occurrence of the unobservable fault event). In stochastic settings where the underlying system is a probabilistic finite automaton under partial observation, there is not a prevalent notion of diagnosability and many variations have been proposed, including A-diagnosability and AA-diagnosability. Earlier work has shown that the verification of A-diagnosability (also referred to as strong stochastic diagnosability) for a given probabilistic finite automaton is a PSPACE-hard problem. In this paper, we establish that the verification of AA-diagnosability (also referred to as stochastic diagnosability) is a PSPACE-hard problem.

Internet of Things (IoT) has attracted extensive interest from both academia and industries, and is recognized as an ultimate infrastructure to connect everything at anytime and anywhere. The implementation of IoT generally faces the challenges from energy constraint and implementation cost. In this paper, we will introduce a new green communication paradigm, the ambient backscatter (AmBC), that could utilize the environmental wireless signals for both powering a tiny-cost device and backscattering the information symbols. Specifically, we will present the basic principles of AmBC, analyze its features and advantages, suggest its open problems, and predict its potential applications for our future IoT.

In this work some possible solutions to implement a Robotics-oriented predictive maintenance approach are discussed. The data-driven methodology is described from the data collection to the design of an appropriate dataset and finally to the use of some of the most promising algorithms in the field of machine learning. The whole process is composed by several building blocks that can be combined to realize a data analysis on industrial robots. Some of the most promising techniques in Predictive Maintenance for Industrial machines were included in the proposed methodology, together with a Survival Analysis study, and then evaluated with proper performance metrics. Experimenting this methodology on a real use-case with Comau industrial robots showed the validity of the approach and opened to the inclusion of such a process in a service-oriented solution.

Background: Virtual reality (VR) for mental health promotion remains understudied in low income humanitarian settings. We examined the effectiveness of VR in reducing depression with urban refugee youth in Kampala, Uganda. Methods: This randomized controlled trial assessed VR alone (Arm 1), VR followed by group problem management plus (GPM+) (Arm 2), and a control group (Arm 3), with a peer-driven and convenience sample of refugee youth aged 16-25 in Kampala. The primary outcome, depression, was measured with the Patient Health Questionnaire-9. Secondary outcomes included: mental health literacy, mental health stigma, self-compassion, mental wellbeing, and adaptive coping. Analyses were conducted at three timepoints (baseline, 8-weeks, 16-weeks) using generalized estimating equations (GEE). Results: Among participants (n=335, mean age: 20.77, standard deviation: 3.01;cisgender women: n=158, cisgender men: n=173, transgender women: n=4) we found no depression reductions for Arms 1 or 2 at 16-weeks compared with Arm 3. At 16-weeks, mental health literacy was significantly higher for Arm 2 compared with Arm 3, and self compassion was significantly higher in Arms 1 and Arm 2 compared with Arm 3. Discussion: VR alongside GPM+ may benefit self-compassion and MHL among urban refugee youth in Kampala, but these interventions were not effective in reducing depression. © The Author(s), 2025.
