The successful introduction and application of smart wearable technologies (SWTs) will allow the production of new generations of innovative and high value-added products. To this aim, we have built a unique database of 1313 patents included in the Thomson Innovation database, which were registered between 2001 and 2015 in the SWTs domain. This study shows the development trends in SWTs both in general and in different products classes, identifies leading countries and companies in different technological classes, and recognises basic patents within each year. Further, cluster analysis is used to identify the most relevant technological clusters and their evolution over time. This study offers a complete overview of the state of the art and of the evolution of SWTs over time, so providing important insights to researchers and managers who, based on this study results, will be able to make more informed decisions on research directions and technology strategies. Minibatch stochastic subgradient-based projection algorithms for solving convex inequalities

—This paper deals with the convex feasibility problem, where the feasible set is given as the intersection of a (possibly infinite) number of closed convex sets. We assume that each set is specified algebraically as a convex inequality, where the associated convex function is general (possibly non-differentiable). For finding a point satisfying all the convex inequalities we design and analyze random projection algorithms using special subgradient iterations and extrapolated stepsizes. Moreover, the iterate updates are performed based on parallel random observations of several constraint components. For these minibatch stochastic subgradient-based projection methods we prove sublinear convergence results and, under some linear regularity condition for the functional constraints, we prove linear convergence rates. We also derive conditions under which these rates depend explicitly on the minibatch size. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first deriving conditions that show when minibatch stochastic subgradient-based projection updates have a better complexity than their single-sample variants. Limitations on sharing bell nonlocality between sequential pairs of observers

We give strong analytic and numerical evidence that, under mild measurement assumptions, two qubits cannot both be recycled to generate Bell nonlocality between multiple independent observers on each side. This is surprising, as under the same assumptions it is possible to recycle just one of the qubits an arbitrarily large number of times [P. J. Brown and R. Colbeck, Phys. Rev. Lett. 125, 090401 (2020)]. We derive corresponding 'one-sided monogamy relations' that rule out two-sided recycling for a wide range of parameters, based on a general tradeoff relation between the strengths and maximum reversibilities of qubit measurements. We also show if the assumptions are relaxed to allow sufficiently biased measurement selections, then there is a narrow range of measurement strengths that allows two-sided recycling for two observers on each side, and propose an experimental test. Our methods may be readily applied to other types of quantum correlations, such as steering and entanglement, and hence to general information protocols involving sequential measurements. Even though the International Olympiad in Informatics directly involves a restricted number of pupils from each country, one of its primary goals is stimulating interest in computer science and information technology over the whole younger segment of the world’ s population. In several countries, this aim has to be accomplished without an active intervention of the Ministry of Education on school programs, relying on the efforts of small devoted organizations. In this context, promoting the involvement of a large number of school teachers may be as crucial as difficult to achieve. Following a 9-year experience of teams competitions in Italy, recently shared with other European countries, we argue that teams Olympiad may be an effective tool for widening the participation of high-school students and teachers, synergistically cooperating with existing individual competitions. On the one hand, teams contests foster peer education, encouraging talented students to help training fellows. On the other hand, these competitions can be more appealing both for average students, valuing group membership more than personal accomplishments, and most importantly, teachers: team achievements are more recognizably linked with the overall school or teacher performance than solitary excellences, resulting in increased returns rewarding the involved subjects. © 2018 IOI, Vilnius University.

In this paper is presented a proposal of control strategy based on Finite control Set - Model Predictive complemented with Feedback Quantizer. Finite control Set - Model Predictive is a control scheme widely used in power converters. The advantages of this control are, among others, (i) the nonlinearities and constraints of the converter's operation, (ii) the natural discrete operation of power converters, and (iii) the rapid response to changes in references or disturbances. Yet, one drawback to be mentioned in the Finite control Set - Model Predictive control would be the non-fixed switching frequency, which results in a dispersed harmonic spectrum, generating resonance or saturation in transformers. The proposed control strategy, improve the harmonic spectrum of input current and PWM voltage of the power cell in a Multi-Cell AFE Rectifier. Simulation results confirm the validity of the proposal. © 2019 IEEE.

This paper studies the synchronization of a finite number of Kuramoto oscillators in a frequency-dependent bidirectional tree network. We assume that the coupling strength of each link in each direction is equal to the product of a common coefficient and the exogenous frequency of its corresponding source oscillator. We derive a sufficient condition for the common coupling strength in order to guarantee frequency synchronization in tree networks. Moreover, we discuss the dependency of the obtained bound on both the graph structure and the way that exogenous frequencies are distributed. Further, we present an application of the obtained result by means of an event-triggered algorithm for achieving frequency synchronization in a star network assuming that the common coupling coefficient is given. © 2018 IEEE.

This article presents various forms of fuzzy queries, a detailed analysis of these queries and their conversion into standard SQL queries by means of Oracle 11g XE. A qualitative and quantitative study about the use of fuzzy queries on relational databases has been included in this article, as well. Given that fuzzy queries arrange results according to the degree in which they meet the conditions of the query, it is easier to analyze the results and the risk of obtaining an empty result is reduced thanks to an extended interpretation of the conditions of the query. The provided examples of conversion of fuzzy queries into standard SQL queries by means of Oracle 11g XE point to easy to implement methods of obtaining fuzzy information from the database, and thereby expand its functionality. © 2018 IEEE.

This paper investigates all kinds of access entrance guard control systems at home and abroad and analyzes their advantages and disadvantages. COVID-19 epidemic has a serious impact on life, travel must wear a mask, so that the access entrance guard control system can not carry out face recognition under the mask. In view of this kind of situation, an embedded face recognition access entrance guard control system with mask based on EAIDK-310 development board is designed. The system can complete face recognition and body temperature measurement without contact, and drive the motor to open the gate. After testing, the system is suitable for deployment in companies, communities, campuses and other small application scenarios. It is convenient to travel and can reduce the impact of the epidemic.

The characterizations of nonanticipative rate distortion function (NRDF) on a finite horizon are generalized to nonstationary multivariate Gaussian order L autoregressive, AR(L), source processes, with respect to mean square error (MSE) distortion functions. It is shown that the optimal reproduction distributions are induced by a reproduction process, which is a linear function of the state of the source, its best mean-square error estimate, and a Gaussian random process.

The 1995-2018 global evolution of the network of amicable and hostile relations among nation-states

We draw on the data collected by the Integrated Crisis Early Warning System on millions of international and regional public news stories, and this system's indicators of the orientation toward a specific nation-state. We construct the networks of international amicable and hostile relations among nation-states that occur in specific time-periods in order to study the global evolution of the network of such international appraisals. Our analysis presents evidence of an evolution of the structure of this network and a model of the probabilistic micro-dynamics of the alterations of international appraisals during the 1995-2018 span of the available data. Our research provides empirical findings on long-standing debates in the interdisciplinary field of work on Structural Balance Theory. Also remarkably, we find that the trajectory of the Frobenius norm of sequential transition probabilities, which govern the evolution of international appraisals among nations, dramatically stabilizes.
