Solving Lur'e equations plays a critical role in addressing linear-quadratic optimal control (LQOC) problems, especially in cases where the control cost matrices are singular. This paper introduces, for the first time, two novel zeroing neural network (ZNN) models—ZNNLE and ZNNLE-LQOC—specifically designed to solve the Lur'e equation system and the LQOC problem, respectively. The proposed models extend the applicability of the ZNN methodology to these challenging scenarios by offering robust and efficient solutions to time-varying matrix equations. Theoretical analyses confirm the validity of both models, while numerical simulations and practical applications demonstrate their effectiveness. Moreover, a comparative study with an enhanced alternating-direction implicit (ADI) method highlights the superior performance of the ZNNLE-LQOC model in solving LQOC problems.

Injecting auxiliary random noise is an effective approach to implementing the online secondary-path modeling (SPM) subsystem in active noise control (ANC). In this paper, a typical FIR-based narrowband ANC (NANC) system with online SPM is proposed to reduce the sinusoidal noise generated by rotating machines, especially its lower frequency portion. A first-order FIR filter or magnitude/phase adjuster (MPA) serves as a sub-controller in each frequency channel. The contributions of this work are twofold. A bandpass filter bank based on IIR notch filters is introduced to mitigate the coupling between the controller (MPAs) and the SPM subsystem, which significantly improves the performance of the overall system. Furthermore, the proposed system requires only one x-filtering block regardless of the number of targeted frequencies, which considerably reduces the computational cost of the system. Simulations as well as application to real noise are conducted to demonstrate that the proposed system is superior to its conventional version in terms of overall system convergence and online SPM quality. © 25th International Congress on Sound and Vibration 2018, ICSV 2018: Hiroshima Calling. Various wide-band multiple source detection and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation using array methods have been proposed. For multiple wide-band 2D source DOA estimation, an Approximate Maximum-Likelihood (AML) method was proposed with later extension to 3D applications. AML is an iterative method that is computationally demanding, so must typically be performed off-line. Now we propose a new, analytic, method to separate and localize overlapping sources that is much faster and less computationally demanding. We used the k-th subband of the cross-covariance matrix Ck of H-frame of a contiguous array of N sensors data to perform an eigen-decomposition [Vk, Dk ] = eig(Ck ) . The ratios of the larger eigenvalues in Dk relative to the smallest eigenvalue provide a possible detection criterion for various sources and the corresponding eigenvectors can be used to estimate the DOA's of multiple sources. The phase differences among the sensors are used to analytically obtain the DOA without needing any optimization operations. The patient-clinician relationship is known to significantly affect the pain experience, as empathy, mutual trust and therapeutic alliance can significantly modulate pain perception and influence clinical therapy outcomes. The aim of the present study was to use an EEG hyperscanning setup to identify brain and behavioral mechanisms supporting the patient-clinician relationship while this clinical dyad is engaged in a therapeutic interaction. Our previous study applied fMRI hyperscanning to investigate whether brain concordance is linked with analgesia experienced by a patient while undergoing treatment by the clinician. In this current hyperscanning project we investigated similar outcomes for the patient-clinician dyad exploiting the high temporal resolution of EEG and the possibility to acquire the signals while patients and clinicians were present in the same room and engaged in a face-to-face interaction under an experimentally-controlled therapeutic context. Advanced source localization methods allowed for integration of spatial and spectral information in order to assess brain correlates of therapeutic alliance and pain perception in different clinical interaction contexts. Preliminary results showed that both behavioral and brain responses across the patient-clinician dyad were significantly affected by the interaction *** Relevance- The context of a clinical intervention can significantly impact the treatment of chronic pain. Effective therapeutic alliance, based on empathy, mutual trust, and warmth can improve treatment adherence and clinical outcomes. A deeper scientific understanding of the brain and behavioral mechanisms underlying an optimal patient-clinician interaction may lead to improved quality of clinical care and physician training, as well as better understanding of the social aspects of the biopsychosocial model mediating analgesia in chronic pain patients.

Malware triage for early identification of Advanced Persistent Threat activities

In the last decade, a new class of cyber-Threats has emerged. This new cybersecurity adversary is known with the name of "Advanced Persistent Threat" (APT) and is referred to different organizations that in the last years have been "in the center of the eye" due to multiple dangerous and effective attacks targeting financial and politic, news headlines, embassies, critical infrastructures, TV programs, etc. In order to early identify APT related malware, a semi-Automatic approach for malware samples analysis is needed. In our previous work we introduced a malware triage step for a semi-Automatic malware analysis architecture. This step has the duty to analyze as fast as possible new incoming samples and to immediately dispatch the ones that deserve a deeper analysis, among all the malware delivered per day in the cyberspace, the ones that really worth to be further examined by analysts. Our paper focuses on malware developed by APTs, and we build our knowledge base, used in the triage, on known APTs obtained from publicly available reports. In order to have the triage as fast as possible, we only rely on static malware features, that can be extracted with negligible delay, and use machine learning techniques for the identification. In this work we move from multiclass classification to a group of oneclass classifier, which simplify the training and allows higher modularity. The results of the proposed framework highlight high performances, reaching a precision of 100% and an accuracy over 95%. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Systems are often controlled using feedback loops. Fault diagnosis schemes are usually designed assuming that there is no feedback loop. Therefore fault diagnosis methods need to accommodate for the feedback loop. One such method is active fault diagnosis based on a fault signature system. This method is derived using the YJBK parametrisation, named after Youla, Jabr, Bongiorno and Kucera. It uses the derived fault signature system to determine the detectability of possible faults in the system. Deriving the fault signature system requires knowledge about the controller. This paper demonstrates the possibility of estimating the detectability of faults in the fault signature system using a gap-metric. The gap-metric has the advantage of only requiring knowledge about the plant. By using the gap-metric it is possible to estimate the detectability of faults without using information about the controller. © 2018 IEEE.

When dealing with epidemic spread, a very common And dangerous situation is the presence of an epidemic disease and a complication, especially in an elderly population or a weakened one. In this case the complication, that alone is not, in general, a fatal disease, may become risky. The ad hoc resource allocation becomes a mandatory task, aiming at the most rationale control strategy. This is the aim of this work, in which a new model is introduced; five classes are considered: the susceptible one, the class of people that has got the immunity from the first dangerous disease (but not from the complication), the class of patients with first disease, the class of those in the risky situation of having both the diseases, and the category of individuals with only the second disease that can still caught the first serious one. control actions are introduced, as vaccination and medication, studying the effects of the different strategies. Preliminary simulation results evidenced the effectiveness of the proposed approach, allowing to determine a control strategy that reduces the number of dead, with an efficient resource allocation.

In this paper the problem of the HIV/AIDS spread reduction is addressed in the framework of optimal control theory. A model recently proposed has been adopted; it considers two classes of susceptible subjects, the wise people and the people with incautious behaviors, and three classes of infected, the ones still not aware of their status, the pre-AIDS patients and the AIDS ones. The control actions involve prevention by information campaign, to reduce the category of subjects with unwise behavior, by test campaign, to reduce the number of subjects not aware of having the virus, and medication on patients with a positive diagnosis. A cost index aiming at the reduction of patients with positive diagnosis is introduced with the conflicting requirements of using as less resources as possible.

The twin-field (TF) quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol and its variants are highly attractive because they can beat the well-known rate-loss limit (i.e., the PLOB bound) for QKD protocols without quantum repeaters. In this paper, we perform a proof-of-principle experimental demonstration of TF-QKD based on the protocol proposed by Curty et al. [38] which removes from the original TF-QKD scheme the need for post-selection on the matching of a global phase, and can deliver nearly an order of magnitude higher secret key rate. Furthermore, we overcome the major difficulty in the practical implementation of TF-QKD, namely, the need to stabilize the phase of the quantum state over kilometers of fiber. A Sagnac loop structure is utilized to ensure excellent phase stability between the different parties. Using decoy states, we demonstrate secret-key generation rates that beat the PLOB bound when the channel loss is above 40 dB. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In-field test of electronic devices is becoming increasingly important due to the wide adoption of electronic systems in safety-critical applications. Hence, it is crucial to devise and deploy effective solutions supporting the test during the operational phase of all the components of an electronic system, including the memory modules embedded in a SoC. Some key aspects include the possible reuse of HW infrastructures introduced for end-of-manufacturing test, the need for limited intrusiveness with respect to the application, and the achievable defect coverage. The paper discusses the main challenges in this area and possible solutions, as well as future trends. © 2017 IEEE.
