According to the World Health Organization, approximately in the world 5’700.000 persons present blindness or low vision due the glaucoma disease. In Ecuador, the National Council for Equality of Disabilities (CON-ADIS) claims that 13.2% of people live with some form of disability. Of this group, 0.8% people present different kind of visual disabilities, from which an important number are have related with Glaucoma. This article proposes an accessible tool for the ophthalmologist that facilitates the presumptive diagnosis of Glaucoma using only the digital image of the human eye fundus. With the proposed system, we have processed digitally 72 biomedical images of the human eye. With this information, our approach has generated the respective diagnoses for the two techniques ISNT and cup-disc relationship (CDR), which can be stored in PDF format to contrast with a later diagnosis to help the specialist. The CDR technique has produced an average relative error of 4.5% was obtained with respect to the medical results taken from OCT. Both the images and the results of the OCT were acquired from the Clinic "Santa Lucía" of Quito city. © Springer International Publishing AG 2018.

Self-driving vehicles have become a more and more important field in recent years. Supported by the techniques of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the current tendency of positive results in applications is making it a promising area to focus further research. Additionally, Reinforcement Learning (RL) is already proved to be an efficient approach for complex problems, e.g. robots, industrial systems and also games (like chess, Go), *** is a driving technique at handling limits where the driver intentionally oversteers, with loss of traction, while driving the vehicle through the entirety of a corner. It is a very challenging control task and often results in an accident when it occurs on public roads, consequently, the efficient control of this motion is especially important in the safety of autonomous *** paper reports novel research results whose main goal is to develop a self-driving agent for drift motion control based on vehicle simulation by Matlab/Simulink. Longitudinal and lateral velocity together with the yaw rate formed the state representation of the vehicle. The agent action space consists of two continuous actuator values: pedal ratio and roadwheel angle. The goal of the agent is twofold: first, it has to jump into a drifting state, second, it has to keep the vehicle in *** simulation results show that the proposed Soft Actor-Critic (SAC) RL agent is capable of learning to approach a pre-determined drift equilibrium from cornering and staying in this drift situation as well. For the training, the solution excluded using any kind of prior data, it only works with information gained from the simulation model, which is a remarkable difference from the actual state-of-the-art RL-based solutions. © 2022 IEEE.

In large-scale environmental monitoring, massive sensor nodes regularly collect data and transmit them over long distances, which burdens the network and leads to the increased energy consumption. To deal with this problem, we develop an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based compressive algorithm. In this algorithm, the network clustering technologies and Compressive Sensing are exploited to decrease the amount of data throughout the network. Monte Carlo method is used to group sensor nodes into clusters. The UAV is dispatched as a mobile agent to collect data from the cluster heads. Compared with the benchmark algorithms, the simulations demonstrate that the algorithm proposed in this paper can decrease the network's energy consumption and obtain better environmental monitoring results. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Color image histograms are very useful tools for content based image retrieval (CBIR) that can be applied on features such as colour, texture and shape. As these kinds of histograms results with large variations between neighbouring bins, they seem so sensitive to any kind of changes such as noise, illumination. To overcome this problem, in this paper, fuzzy linking histogram approach based on OWA aggregation operator is proposed , which is capable of projecting 3-dimensional (L*a*b*) colour histograms into single-dimension. The proposed method have been evaluated and compared with five other related methods in retrieving similar images from the common dataset which is available on http://***/∼konkonst. The experimental results on 100 images within two categories of Cat and Sky reveals better performance of the proposed method in comparison with the other mentioned methods. ©2009IEEE.

Damping contribution from wind farms (WFs) is likely to become a mandatory requirement as a part of the grid codes. For remote offshore WFs, connected through a voltage source converter (VSC)-based direct current link, the most convenient option for the onshore transmission system operator (TSO) is to modulate the reactive power at the onshore VSC within their own jurisdiction. In this paper, we show that supplementary control through the onshore VSC alone, although attractive for TSOs, could result in undesirable voltage variations in the onshore grid. On the other hand, modulation of active power output of the wind turbine generators (WTG) alone turns out to be inadequate due to the limited overload capability of the WTGs. Coordinated control over both onshore VSC and aggregated WF output overcomes the above limitations and is shown to be effective for power oscillation damping. A homotopy approach is used to design the coordinated controller, which can be implemented locally (at offshore WF and onshore converter site) using a decentralized architecture. This is a bilinear matrix inequality problem, which is solved by transforming these constraints into linear matrix inequality constraints. Case studies on two test systems show that the proposed controller yields similar system dynamic response as supplementary control through the WF alone.

Interconnected system between computation and physical process (Cyber-Physical Systems) has been widely used in industrial processes. In CPS-based industrial process, sensors, controllers, and actuators are connected into a communication network. The communication network may introduce delay time uncertainties due to shared resources and load traffic in the network. Furthermore, the nonlinear time-varying characteristic of batch distillation column may causes another uncertainties to take into account in control system design. Parameter model and delay process uncertainty is introduced due to linearized system approximation that unmodeled high-frequency dynamics. The dynamic uncertainty on both I/O channel are also introduced to the system uncertainty. In this paper, robust PI and PID controller using AMIGO method with appropriate weighting function is designed to guarantee robust stability spesification of batch distillation column. The impact of system uncertainties to closed-loop system performances such as peak overshoot and integral error is investigated. MATLAB/Simulink simulation is used to validate the methods before its implementation in CPS-based batch distillation column. Based on simulation, the proposed robust PI/PID controller can guarantee robust stability of system compared to conventional PID controller. Furthermore, the robust PI/PID controller can improve closed-loop system performances compared to conventional PID.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a life changing technology which is build on various devices which are connected to the Internet. Wireless sensor nodes (WSN) is one of such devices which plays a major role in deploying IoT in large scale of real-time even monitoring applications. But the energy limitations of those sensor nodes limits the features of IoT networks. Hence improving the energy limitations in WSN plays a vital role in last decade. This chapter presents the possibilities of enhance the energy limitations of sensor nodes with renewable energy resources. The proposed integrated architecture of this proposed model discusses the implementation of sensor node with flexible solar energy harvester module, multi mode communication capability and multi sensor data module. The special contribution in this chapter includes the hardware specification with budget analysis, sleep-awake strategy to effective use of energy and maximum possible data collection from the environment. In this paper, the design and the experimental validation of a discrete linear quadratic regulator applied to boost converters with switched loads are investigated. The closed-loop system stability under arbitrary switching is ensured by means of the existence of a switched Lyapunov function, obtained by means of linear matrix inequalities, which is the main contribution of this work. The control law is implemented using a digital signal processor. Experimental results reveal the good transient and steady state performances as well as demonstrate a strong correspondence with the simulation, proving the practical viability of the proposed procedure. © 2011 IEEE.
