When people choose routes minimizing their individual delay, the aggregate congestion can be much higher compared to that experienced by a centrally-imposed routing. Yet centralized routing is incompatible with the presence of self-interested agents. How can we reconcile the two? In this paper we address this question within a repeated game framework and propose a fair incentive mechanism based on artificial currencies that routes selfish agents in a system-optimal fashion, while accounting for their temporal preferences. We instantiate the framework in a parallel-network whereby agents commute repeatedly (e.g., daily) from a common start node to the end node. Thereafter, we focus on the specific two-arcs case whereby, based on an artificial currency, the agents are charged when traveling on the first, fast arc, whilst they are rewarded when traveling on the second, slower arc. We assume the agents to be rational and model their choices through a game where each agent aims at minimizing a combination of today’s discomfort, weighted by their urgency, and the average discomfort encountered for the rest of the period (e.g., a week). We show that, if prices of artificial currencies are judiciously chosen, the routing pattern converges to a system-optimal solution, while accommodating the agents’ urgency. We complement our study through numerical simulations. Our results show that it is possible to achieve a system-optimal solution whilst reducing the agents’ perceived discomfort by 14-20% when compared to a centralized optimal but urgency-unaware policy. Volume control of low-cost ventilator with automatic set-point adaptation

This paper considers the control design for a low-cost ventilator that is based on a manual resuscitator bag (also known as AmbuBag) to pump air into the lungs of a patient who is physically unable to breathe. First, it experimentally shows that for accurately tracking tidal volumes, the controller needs to be adapted to the individual patient and the different configurations, e.g., hardware or operation modes. Second, it proposes a set-point adaptation algorithm that uses sensor measurements of a flow meter to automatically adapt the controller to the setup at hand. Third, it experimentally shows that such an adaptive solution improves the performance of the ventilator for various setups. One objective of this paper is to increase awareness of the need for feedback control using sensor measurements in low-cost ventilator solutions in order to automatically adapt to the specific scenario. We present a first lattice QCD calculation of the unpolarized nucleon’s isovector transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions (TMDPDFs), which are essential to predict observables of multiscale, semi-inclusive processes in the standard model. We use a Nf=2+1+1 MILC ensemble with valence clover fermions on a highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) sea to compute the quark momentum distributions in a large-momentum nucleon on the lattice. The state-of-the-art techniques in renormalization and extrapolation in the correlation distance on the lattice are adopted. The perturbative kernel up to next-to-next-to-leading order is taken into account, and the dependence on the pion mass and the hadron momentum is explored. Our results are qualitatively comparable with phenomenological TMDPDFs, which provide an opportunity to predict high energy scatterings from first principles.

As the number of devices connected to the Internet of things (IoT) surges, the amount of data explodes. Therefore it not only increases the bandwidth load of data transmission but also aggravates the computing and storage load of a cloud platform. At the same time, the traditional computing paradigm centered on cloud computing cannot meet the real-time requirements in many application scenarios. The emergence of edge computing can solve the problems of realtime data processing and network bandwidth occupation in the current IoT scene. In this paper, according to the characteristics of IoT, such as fragmented data, heterogeneous network, and limited energy consumption, the architecture of an IoT edge computing system is constructed to suit better an IoT scene. In addition, the application of edge computing key technologies such as virtualization, edge intelligence, computing offload, collaborative scheduling and micro-services in resource-constrained IoT scenarios is analyzed in detail. Finally, the functions and application of energy consumption monitoring and optimization to a central air-conditioning system are analyzed and summarized, which is a typical application of edge computing in the context of the IoT. © 2020 IEEE.

In the Internet of things (IoT) era, vehicles and other intelligent components in an intelligent transportation system (ITS) are connected, forming vehicular networks (VNs) that provide efficient and safe traffic and ubiquitous access to various applications. However, as the number of nodes in an ITS increases, it is challenging to satisfy a varied and large number of service requests with different quality of service (QoS) and security requirements in highly dynamic VNs. Intelligent nodes in VNs can compete or cooperate for limited network resources to achieve the objective for either an individual or a group. Game theory (GT), a theoretical framework designed for strategic interactions among rational decision makers sharing scarce resources, can be used to model and analyze individual or group behaviors of communicating entities in VNs. This paper primarily surveys the recent developments of GT in solving various challenges of VNs. This survey starts with an introduction to the background of VNs. A review of GT models studied in the VNs is then introduced, including the basic concepts, classifications, and applicable vehicular issues. After discussing the requirements of VNs and the motivation of using GT, a comprehensive literature review on GT applications in dealing with the challenges of current VNs is provided. Furthermore, recent contributions of GT to VNs that are integrated with diverse emerging 5G technologies are surveyed. Finally, the lessons learned are given, and several key research challenges and possible solutions of applying GT in VNs are outlined. Copyright © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

UK hung parliament (UKHP) prediction is a concern. It may not only cause political issues, but also lead to troubles in other fields such as economics. It is important to make predictions on UKHP. In this paper, we use three-variable and five-variable Weng-Zhang algorithms (also termed addition- subtraction and frequency [ASF] algorithms) of different traversal types to predict the risky time-intervals and years of UKHP to give an early alert for avoidance. Experiment results show that 2021-2023, 2047-2068, and 2098-2104 are more potentially risky, and 2023, 2053, 2055, 2061, 2068, and 2098 have a greater risk for the occurrence of UKHP.

During development, multicellular organisms undergo stereotypical patterns of tissue growth in space and time, but how this is orchestrated remains unclear. Drosophila histoblast nests are small clusters of progenitor epithelial cells that undergo extensive growth to give rise to the abdominal epidermis and are amenable to live-imaging. Our quantitative analysis of the temporal dynamics of abdomen growth reveals that histoblasts display oscillatory cell division rates and that growth termination occurs through the rapid emergence of arrested cells rather than a gradual increase in cell cycle time. By examining tissue mechanics throughout histoblast expansion, we uncover an increase in tissue stress together with a decrease in extracellular matrix resistance as the histoblasts expand. The decrease in resistance is driven by timely extracellular matrix remodeling, which is necessary to trigger tissue expansion. Thus, changes in the tissue microenvironment, and a rapid cell cycle exit, control the formation of the adult Drosophila abdomen. © 2021, The Authors. All rights reserved.

When implementing predictive control strategies for power electronic converters a good model of the system is needed because this model determines the quality of the resulting controller. In this paper a study of the model parameter error effects in predictive control applications is presented. The results show that by considering a short sampling time, there can be a significant impact if there are variations in the resistance and inductance values.

In this paper, the problem of distributed state and input estimation using sensor networks for linear system is investigated. First, the retrospective-cost-based information filter（RCIF） is proposed to estimate the state and input simultaneously, by combining the retrospective cost input estimator subsystem and information filter state estimator subsystem. Next, the retrospective-cost adaptive input estimator subsystem is formulated, which utilizes retrospective cost optimization and recursive minimum mean square estimation to drive the estimated input to approximate the actual input without prior information. Then,the consensus algorithm is used to extend the RCIF to distributed estimation, and to improve the convergence rate, the adaptive update law of consensus weights is presented. Finally, a simulation example is illustrated to validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed algorithm.

With concern over the environment increasingly important globally, there is an imperative for the development of more sustainable electronic materials. Flexible strain sensors, capable of translating mechanical deformation into electrical signals, have garnered significant interest in applications such as healthcare monitoring and soft robotics. In this study, a biodegradable fiber-based flexible strain sensor with excellent electromechanical properties was developed using custom polyurethanes modified with polylactic acid and silicone (Si-BTPU) blended with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) via environmentally friendly melt spinning technology. The results revealed that the Si-BTPU exhibited biodegradability, with a degradation rate of 5.7 % after just 4 weeks. Notably, the obtained strain sensor demonstrated an impressive sensing range of 0–395 %, high sensitivity (gauge factor GF = 42) and a low detection limit of less than 2 %, while maintaining stable electromechanical performance over 10,000 tensile loading-unloading cycles. Furthermore, human epidermal fibroblasts (HDFs) displayed strong adhesion to and proliferation on the strain sensor, indicating its suitability for skin surface applications. This research provides valuable insights into the advancement of wearable electronic devices for healthcare monitoring within the realm of advanced materials. © 2025
