The development of fault-tolerant quantum processors relies on the ability to control noise. A particularly insidious form of noise is temporally correlated or non-Markovian noise. By combining randomized benchmarking with supervised machine learning algorithms, we develop a method to learn the details of temporally correlated noise. In particular, we can learn the time-independent evolution operator of system plus bath and this leads to (i) the ability to characterize the degree of non-Markovianity of the dynamics and (ii) the ability to predict the dynamics of the system even beyond the times we have used to train our model. We exemplify this by implementing our method on a superconducting quantum processor. Our experimental results show a drastic change between the Markovian and non-Markovian regimes for the learning accuracies. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Gait phase recognition systems are widely used in medicine to control devices aimed at restoration of patients’ motor functions and have an increasing interest in scientific society. Use of electromyography as a source of information for such systems gives considerable advantages in comparison with other data sources at the cost of complex signal processing needed. In this paper, the author outlines these advantages and suggests a method that uses discrete wavelet transform to retrieve muscle activity shape and a novel double-threshold detector to find the regions of activity. Then a robust statistical treatment is performed following a dimensionality reduction. As a result, a set of classification objects is retrieved that are suitable for further use in various clustering and classification techniques. The introduced method was tested in the Movement Physiology Laboratory of I. P. Pavlov Institute of Physiology, Russian Academy of Sciences and proved its applicability on real electromyography data. © 2018 CEUR-WS. All rights reserved.

This work combines the subspace predictive control technique with the integral sliding mode control strategy to formulate a novel robust subspace predictive control scheme. The subspace predictive controller provides the nominal control whereas the integral sliding mode controller gives the discontinuous control action. The aim is to improve the capability of subspace predictive controller in handling uncertainties and external disturbances. The proposed control scheme is evaluated with a simulated pressurized water nuclear reactor. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is demonstrated for two different load-following operations in the presence of uncertainties.

The purpose of this paper is to design a coherent feedback controller for a Markovian jump linear quantum system suffering from a fault signal. The control objective is to bound the effect of the disturbance input on the output for the time-varying quantum system. We prove the relation between the H ∞ control problem, the dissipation properties, and the solutions of Riccati differential equations, by which the H ∞ controller of the Markovian jump linear quantum system is given by the solutions of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs).

This review explores the advancements in MXene-based nanomaterials as flame-retardant additives for polymers and composites, driven by increasing fire safety demands across industries. It highlights the critical role of flame-retardant materials in mitigating fire hazards in structures, electronics, transportation, and textiles, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions due to stricter safety regulations. MXenes, a class of two-dimensional nanomaterials with unique structural properties such as high surface area, tunable composition, and superior thermal stability, are presented as promising candidates. The review discusses various synthesis and incorporation techniques for MXenes in polymer matrices, showcasing improvements in flame retardancy, mechanical properties, and thermal stability. Additionally, it emphasizes the multifunctionality of MXenes, which offer conductivity, electromagnetic shielding, and mechanical reinforcement alongside flame suppression. In conclusion, the review underscores MXenes' potential to address challenges in flame-retardant materials, advocating for further research to optimize their applications and explore synergies with other agents to enhance safety and sustainability in engineering materials. © 2025 Kingfa Scientific and Technological Co. The centralized longitudinal control problem for Cooperative Adaptive Cruise control (CACC) systems is discussed in this paper, in which the imperfect wireless communication surroundings and actuator dynamics are taken into consideration. From the large-scale system standpoint, the centralized longitudinal control problem for platoon vehicles equipped with CACC functionality is formulated as minimizing a quadratic performance index under the constrains of a large-scale discrete-time system with actuator delay and system output delay, in which the leader vehicle is set as the control center. After that, benefiting from a designed delay-free transformed vector, a delay-free two-point-boundary-value problem is derived from the equivalent reconstruction forms for original system delay model and performance index. Thus the centralized longitudinal controller is obtained by solving a Riccati equation. Finally, simulation results demonstrate that the ego vehicle can reasonable response the accelerating or decelerating behaviors of the preceding vehicles under the proposed controller, thereby the desired CACC control performance is satisfied, and the wireless communication delay and actuator delay are compensated effectively.

In this study, the inner position loop addition for plastic deformation control of the error robustness of the model and actual parameters is proposed. The inner position loop is a type of position feedback control based on the estimation of model parameters and dynamics of robots. This position control system with proportional and derivative gains modifies the trajectory of the end effector close to the desired trajectory. The robustness of the proposed control scheme is evaluated by comparing it with plastic deformation control without an inner position loop in both simulation and actual environments. Finally, the stable reaction with the proposed control is demonstrated for the case where a human pushes the robot finger.

Improved quantum algorithm for A-optimal projection

Dimensionality reduction algorithms, which reduce the dimensionality of a given data set whereas preserving the information of the original data set as well as possible, play an important role in machine learning and data mining. Duan et al. proposed a quantum version of the A-optimal projection algorithm (AOP) for dimensionality reduction [Phys. Rev. A 99, 032311 (2019)] and claimed that the algorithm has exponential speedups on the dimensionality of the original feature space n and the dimensionality of the reduced feature space k over the classical algorithm. In this paper, we correct the time complexity of the algorithm of Duan et al. to Oκ4sksεspolylogsmnε, where κ is the condition number of a matrix that related to the original data set, s is the number of iterations, m is the number of data points, and ε is the desired precision of the output state. Since the time complexity has an exponential dependence on s, the quantum algorithm can only be beneficial for high-dimensional problems with a small number of iterations s. To get a further speedup, we propose an improved quantum AOP algorithm with time complexity Osκ6kεpolylognmε+s2κ4εpolylogκkε and space complexity O[log2(nk/ε)+s]. With space complexity slightly worse, our algorithm achieves, at least, a polynomial speedup compared to the algorithm of Duan et al.. Also, our algorithm shows exponential speedups in n and m compared with the classical algorithm when κ,k, and 1/ε are O[polylog(nm)].

This paper presents a procedure to estimate a homogeneous equivalent resistivity for typical transmission line tower ground arrangements that are immersed in a stratified soil model. This technique is based on artificial neural network training due to a dataset developed in a numerical routine to compute grounding resistance. The results obtained from Levemberg-Marquadt algorithm and Bayesian regularization show good accuracy compared to the applied dataset and to the measurement data from a 230 kV transmission line, a practical case analyzed. We note medians lower than 5% and acceptable values of standard deviation for practical cases, which suggests that the proposed procedure can be used for real-world conditions.

Consensus-based distributed state estimation for homogeneous mobile sensor networks has been widely studied currently. However, the sensors used for target detection and tracking in practical applications usually have different physical properties, different measuring range or accuracy. In order to realize data exchange between sensors which are of heterogeneity and to obtain a consistent and precise target state estimation result, an improved Cubature Kalman Filtering(CKF) method based on weighted average consensus theory is put forward herein. Moreover, the adverse impacts caused by sensor faults have been taken into consideration in modeling. The stochastic boundedness of the estimation errors for the discussed sensor networks is proved in the paper. Finally, numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
