This paper addresses the safety-critical defensive guidance of autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) concerning the interception of multiple attackers to protect a given domain within an obstacle environment. First, an optimal defensive matching method is proposed, which efficiently assigns multiple defensive ASVs to corresponding attackers. Then, an optimal collision-free defensive guidance law is developed to efficiently intercept an attacker in the presence of stochastic measurement noise. By using the proposed safety-critical defensive guidance method, the defensive ASVs are able to intercept the matched attackers with guaranteed safety. Through the stability analysis, the closed-loop system is practical stochastic input-to-state stability. Simulation results substantiate the effectiveness of the proposed safety-critical defensive guidance for the domain protection. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Addressing the challenges in energy consumption and lifespan of fuel cell hybrid emergency power system, this paper proposes an energy management strategy based on deep reinforcement learning. The strategy aims to holistically balance objectives such as hydrogen consumption of the fuel cell, its lifespan, the stability of the lithium battery's state of charge (SOC), and its degradation. Firstly, we present the system architecture of the fuel cell hybrid emergency power system and establish models for hydrogen consumption and degradation of the fuel cell, as well as the SOC variations and degradation of the lithium battery, upon which a multi-objective reward function is constructed. Subsequently, we adopt the distributional soft actor-critic (DSAC) deep reinforcement learning algorithm, combined with a maximum entropy-based objective function to balance the exploration-exploitation trade-off and incorporated with a distributed value function estimation to alleviate the overestimation of Q-values. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed strategy can effectively reduce the overall value loss, extend the system's lifespan, and showcase robust adaptability. © 2024 IEEE.

The rapid development of digital technology has brought about the challenge of ensuring information security. Cryptography and steganography are among the various techniques available to address this challenge. These techniques come in different forms and provide reliable means of securing information and communication. Despite the existence of numerous options, new variations are still emerging. This paper concentrates on Least Significant Bit (LSB) coding, which is one of the most widely recognized and frequently utilized steganography techniques. The advantages of LSB-based coding methods are high capacity and low complexity. However, predictability is an issue. Audio files' sizes and data redundancy make audio data perfect for steganography, as it is possible to embed large amounts of secret information and easily transmit the signal via various communication channels. However, the use of LSB coding in audio steganography has a drawback due to the extreme sensitivity of the human auditory system (HAS). This means that any noise added to the audio with data embedded in the LSBs can be detected by the HAS, which is dependent on the number of LSBs used. This work presents an improvement of the LSB-based approach, the XORing of LSBs method, with an emphasis on enhanced security. The method achieves this by randomly picking the pairs of bits to be XOR'd while preserving the characteristics of classic LSB methods. To verify the method, it has been implemented on the Cirrus Logic DSP, proving that it may be efficiently used in a real-Time audio environment without interfering with HAS sensitivity levels. © 2023 IEEE.

We build upon recent work on the use of machine-learning models to estimate Hamiltonian parameters using continuous weak measurement of qubits as input. We consider two settings for the training of our model: (1) supervised learning, where the weak-measurement training record can be labeled with known Hamiltonian parameters, and (2) unsupervised learning, where no labels are available. The first has the advantage of not requiring an explicit representation of the quantum state, thus potentially scaling very favorably to a larger number of qubits. The second requires the implementation of a physical model to map the Hamiltonian parameters to a measurement record, which we implement using an integrator of the physical model with a recurrent neural network to provide a model-free correction at every time step to account for small effects not captured by the physical model. We test our construction on a system of two qubits and demonstrate accurate prediction of multiple physical parameters in both the supervised context and the unsupervised context. We demonstrate that the model benefits from larger training sets, establishing that it is “learning,” and we show robustness regarding errors in the assumed physical model by achieving accurate parameter estimation in the presence of unanticipated single-particle relaxation.

Departure Time Planner (DTP) helps to efficiently manage the commute plan by providing smart travel assistance which suggests a departure from a given origin to a destination, given the desired arrival time at the destination. Towards this end, a DTP system is developed using a quasi-connected vehicle system where traffic data is collected from sparse sensor infrastructure. Novel methods and algorithms were developed accounting for the heterogeneous traffic conditions found in India. The traffic state prediction methodology based on the second-order traffic flow model shows that the system can reliably estimate the departure time for Indian conditions. © 2022 IEEE.

Traditional lithography techniques are currently facing challenges, including high costs and the susceptibility of mask plates to damage. This research aims to elucidate the feasibility and technical constraints of a novel diffraction lithography approach. This method can reduce the size and cost of lithography machines, break through existing technological barriers, and offer new possibilities for the future development of lithography machines. We have built a basic computational holographic lithography system utilizing a 405nm laser and validated the system using holograms obtained with both classical GS algorithm and a newly proposed method. With the GS holograms, patterns with 700nm features have been successfully exposed on the photoresist. With our new algorithms, multiple holograms for the same target pattern can be generated with different settings in the algorithm. Sequential exposure of those holograms resulted in continuous lines 500 nm wide with reduced speckle artifacts, which was about a 1.4-time improvement over the result from the GS algorithm. Future research will focus on optimizing and enhancing the experimental system and the hologram calculation methods to reduce the line widths further and improve the exposure pattern quality. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. Efficient and reliable public transportation system has the potential to ease traffic congestion and improve overall transportation system performance. Out of the various measures for improving the public transportation performance, bus priority at the signalized intersection has the maximum potential to reduce bus travel times in urban areas. This study develops a solution for bus priority based on the objective of the total person delay reduction at signalized intersections under heterogeneous and lane undisciplined Indian traffic. © 2022 IEEE.

The friction behaviour of ZnO nanowires on natural graphite(NG)and highly oriented pyrolytic graphite(HOPG)substrates was tested in ambient conditions by use of optical microscopy based *** on the step-free and waviness-free NG substrate exhibit a diameter-independent nominal frictional shear stress of 0.48 MPa,and this provides a benchmark for studying how the surface topography of graphite influences nanowire *** on the HOPG substrate present a significant diameter-dependent frictional shear stress,increasing from 0.25 to 2.78 MPa with the decrease of nanowire diameter from 485 to 142 *** waviness of HOPG has a limited effect on the nanowire friction,as a nanowire can fully conform to the *** surface steps on the HOPG can significantly enhance the nanowire friction and lead to a much higher frictional shear stress than that on NG due to mechanical blocking and the presence of a Schwoebel barrier at step *** surface steps,however,can also generate small wedge-shaped gaps between a nanowire and substrate,and thus reduce the nanowire *** the decrease in nanowire diameter,the capacity for the nanowire to better conform to the substrate reduces the length of the wedge-shaped gaps,leading to the observed increase in nanowire *** results have improved our understanding of the unique friction behaviour of *** an improved understanding is expected to benefit the design and operation of nanowire-friction-based devices,including bio-inspired fibrillar adhesives,soft grippers,rotary nanomotors,and triboelectric nanogenerators.

Functional safety is an important aspect in the development of safety-critical software for the automotive industry, which can be challenging to achieve due to integration of software components of different criticality on one platform. The AU-TOSAR architecture supports the development of safety-critical systems by providing safety measures and mechanisms, including mechanisms in the memory domain. This paper proposes a tool for ensuring Freedom from Interference between software components of different ASIL while verifying AUTOSAR safety mechanisms in memory domain. Tool proposed in this paper is used to analyze and verify the correct implementation of memory partitioning in a system consisting of mixed-criticality software components. By verifying the correct implementation of the memory partitioning and memory mapping mechanisms, we contribute to the correct functionality of memory partitioning mechanism and memory protection unit.

This paper presents a decentralized graph-based exploration and inspection framework for Multi-Robot Systems, designed to address challenges in subterranean and largescale environments. Unlike prior works that focus solely on exploration or inspection, this framework integrates volumetric exploration, semantic inspection, and dynamic task allocation into a unified decentralized system. A key novelty of this work is the seamless integration of these modules in a multi-robot setting, allowing UAVs to autonomously coordinate their tasks without relying on centralized control. The framework employs a hierarchical graph structure, utilizing a dense local graph for immediate navigation and a sparse global graph for long-term planning and repositioning. Extensive simulations in large-scale complex-shaped environments demonstrate that the proposed approach improves the completeness of the generated maps, reduces inconsistencies in the constructed mesh, and accelerates the overall exploration-inspection process compared to existing decentralized strategies.
