Face dejection Is very important in video surveillance of public safely. This paper proposed a face dejection method based on the best optimization convex grouping to detect the face regions from different face shape images at actual conditions. Firstly, the basic principle of convex grouping was discussed, the main rules of convex and the structure of the convex polygons was described. And then the best optimization convex grouping algorithm of the convex polygons was designed. At last, all of the algorithms, which used the best optimization convex grouping to delect the face region on tl∗r data set of MIT single face sample library were tested. This sample library contains positive faces, side faces and other sorts of posture. The experiment result showed that the best optimization convex grouping method could detected the face regions accurately, even if the face postures are positive, side or others, our proposed method was effective, and it was not affected by color and light Compared with other typical algorithms, this proposed method had higher defection accuracy, and it could be used directly without training. Meanwhile, there was a better stability and reliability in the actual processing, which could satisfy the requirements of practical application. © 2018 CRL Publishing. All rights reserved.

In this paper, we developed a path planning system for smart cars for teaching electronic engineering or computer science, which consists of the interactive platform for smart cars development and path planning. Designed by Visual C++, the interactive platform can call Matlab engine, allows users to choose path optimization algorithms such as genetic or A-star(A*) algorithm for different tasks and control smart cars through serial ports. The simulation and practice demonstrate that our interactive platform can help learners to plan paths and control intelligent vehicles without specially designing a user interface.

Tongue image segmentation is a crucial step in developing an automatic tongue diagnosis system. After exploring characteristics of image thresholding in different color spaces, we propose a simple and effective tongue image segmentation method. Specifically, the proposed method first extracts an initial tongue body region by performing image thresholding on the transformed hue component in HSI (Hue, Saturation, and Intensity) color space. Then, one of two image thresholding results on the red component of an original tongue image is adaptively selected to find the gap region between the tongue body root and the upper lip. Finally, the initial tongue body region is refined by removing fake object regions such as the upper lip to obtain final tongue image segmentation result. Experimental results on a tongue image dataset containing 200 subjects demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2018 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

In the field of computer vision, network architectures are critical to the performance of tasks. Vision Graph Neural Network (ViG) has shown remarkable results in handling various vision tasks with their unique characteristics. However, the lack of multi-scale information in ViG limits its expressive capability. To address this challenge, we propose a Graph Pyramid Pooling Transformer (GPPT), which aims to enhance the performance of the model by introducing multi-scale feature learning. The core advantage of GPPT is its ability to effectively capture and fuse feature information at different scales. Specifically, it first generates multi-level pooled graphs using a graph pyramid pooling structure. Next, it encodes features at each scale using a weight-shared Graph Convolutional Neural Network (GCN). Then, it enhances information exchange across scales through a cross-scale feature fusion mechanism. Finally, it captures long-range node dependencies using a transformer module. The experimental results demonstrate that GPPT achieves exceptional performance across various visual scenes, including image classification, and object detection, highlighting its generality and validity. © 2025 Elsevier B.V.

Open Educational Resources (OERs) are freely accessible materials for teaching, learning, and research that have been made available such that they can be freely used, modified, and shared. Prompted by the potential positive impact that OERs can have, a growing community of OER enthusiasts has been advocating for their adoption in higher education, and elsewhere. The growing demand for computer science education and training (especially in areas related to artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data) has led to speculation as to how OERs may be best leveraged to support such teaching and learning. The recent occasion of an international OER workshop at the 2019 IEEE Conference on Computers, Software and Applications (COMPSAC) allowed for six OER enthusiasts, all with extensive OER experience, to reflect on the status of OER adoption and understanding. These reflections, addressing misconceptions and challenges, form the basis for this paper. © 2019 IEEE.

Diffusion-weighted MRI (DWI) is essential for stroke diagnosis, treatment decisions, and prognosis. However, image and disease variability hinder the development of generalizable AI algorithms with clinical value. We address this gap by presenting a novel ensemble algorithm derived from the 2022 Ischemic Stroke Lesion Segmentation (ISLES) challenge. ISLES’22 provided 400 patient scans with ischemic stroke from various medical centers, facilitating the development of a wide range of cutting-edge segmentation algorithms by the research community. By assessing them against a hidden test set, we identified strengths, weaknesses, and potential biases. Through collaboration with leading teams, we combined top-performing algorithms into an ensemble model that overcomes the limitations of individual solutions. Our ensemble model combines the individual algorithms’ strengths and achieved superior ischemic lesion detection and segmentation accuracy (median Dice score: 0.82, median lesion-wise F1 score: 0.86) on our internal test set compared to individual algorithms. This accuracy generalized well across diverse image and disease variables. Furthermore, the model excelled in extracting clinical biomarkers like lesion types and affected vascular territories. Notably, in a Turing-like test, neuroradiologists consistently preferred the algorithm’s segmentations over manual expert efforts, highlighting increased comprehensiveness and precision. Validation using a real-world external dataset (N=1686) confirmed the model’s generalizability (median Dice score: 0.82, median lesion-wise F1 score: 0.86). The algorithm’s outputs also demonstrated strong correlations with clinical scores (admission NIHSS and 90-day mRS) on par with or exceeding expert-derived results, underlining its clinical relevance. —Motion planning is a key tool that allows robots to navigate through an environment without collisions. The problem of robot motion planning has been studied in great detail over the last several decades, with researchers initially focusing on systems such as planar mobile robots and low degree-of-freedom (DOF) robotic arms. The increased use of high DOF robots that must perform tasks in real time in complex dynamic environments spurs the need for fast motion planning algorithms. In this overview, we discuss several types of strategies for motion planning in high dimensional spaces and dissect some of them, namely grid search based, sampling based and trajectory optimization based approaches. We compare them and outline their advantages and disadvantages, and finally, provide an insight into future research opportunities. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Modern communication circuits use adaptive modulation techniques to fulfill its task. These techniques require changing the clock frequency of the of the communication units inside the communication circuit. The clock frequency can affect the power consumption of the digital circuits. In this paper, Dynamic Voltage / Frequency Scheduling (DVFS) is modified to use the clock frequency variation so that the CRC stage power is decreased. The DVFS is represented by a fuzzy controller that uses the frequency and the calculated power of the system as its input to calculate the required CRC unite supply voltage. The simulations show that for a 16bit CRC circuit a reduction in power in low frequencies can reach 75% and the reduction is 4% in high frequencies.

Pressurized Water Reactors are popular in the nuclear power generation industry due to their self-regulating and self-stabilizing features which in turn help them to perform load-following operation. However, fast power maneuvering is a challenging task due to inherent nonlinearity in a reactor. It leads to changes in the behavior with variation in reactor power. Further, the heat transfers from fuel to coolant and the reactivity changes due to variation in fuel and coolant temperatures introduces uncertainty in the system. Thus, it is essential to design a robust controller for load-following operation. In this paper, the point kinetics model of PWR coupled with the Mann's thermal-hydraulic model has been considered in addition to power sensor model and actuator model. This model has been identified as an interval system with bounded parametric uncertainties in measurements (fuel and coolant). The work then formulates a methodology to design a single robust PID controller using linear matrix inequalities by varying the weighting matrices. The outcomes have been validated using MATLAB simulations and discreetly exemplified in the result section.
