In this paper, a new 3D dynamical system with four quadratic nonlinear terms is presented. It is shown that the proposed chaotic system has two saddle-foci, unstable, equilibrium points. Thus, the proposed chaotic system exhibits self-excited chaotic attractors. Dynamical analysis methods such as Lyapunov exponents spectrum, bifurcation diagrams, and phase portraits are used to explore the complex dynamical behaviors of the proposed chaotic system and analyze its basic qualitative properties. It is shown that the maximal Lyapunov exponent (MLE) of the new chaotic system is 7.196, which is a high value. The proposed highly chaotic system exhibits high complexity and it will be very useful for applications in cryptography, encryption and secure communications. The physical feasibility of the proposed system is verified by implementing its electronic circuit schematic using Multisim software. Additionally, a PRNG has been developed using the derived state variables and analyze with NIST-800–22 test. Lastly, we developed a PRNG-based image encryption and employ it for an encryption. The experimental outcomes obtained prove that the 3D chaotic system-based encryption application presented in this section has a very good performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

With neural networks being used to control safety-critical systems, they increasingly have to be both accurate (in the sense of matching inputs to outputs) and robust. However, these two properties are often at odds with each other and a trade-off has to be navigated. To address this issue, this paper proposes a method to generate an approximation of a neural network which is certifiably more robust. Crucially, the method is fully convex and posed as a semi-definite programme. An application to robustifying model predictive control is used to demonstrate the results. The aim of this work is to introduce a method to navigate the neural network robustness/accuracy trade-off. © 2024, CC BY.

Medical Body Area Networks (MBANs) increasingly utilize wireless communication technologies to enhance the freedom and convenience for patients and caregivers. Currently, radio frequency (RF) is the prevalent medium in healthcare applications; however, the potential for electromagnetic interference with precision medical equipment remains a concern. This study introduces a novel design and implementation of a medical healthcare information system using the newly developed Wireless Visible Light Communication (VLC) technology, also known as Light Fidelity (Li-Fi). Visible Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), expected to soon surpass traditional incandescent and fluorescent bulbs as the primary light source due to their energy efficiency, facilitate this technology. In this research, patient health is monitored using sensors, with results displayed on an LCD. An LED lightbulb transmits the data as light signals, which are captured by a photo-detector at the receiver's end. This setup not only displays the output on an LCD but also alerts caregivers through an auditory signal, beeping every 15 seconds for respiration and every 30 seconds for heart rate monitoring. Moreover, these lighting fixtures serve dual functions: illumination and wireless data transmission, using the rapid switching capability of LEDs. This prototype VLC-based system offers a promising alternative for data services and monitoring in hospital areas where RF use is restricted.

Continual learning can incrementally absorb new concepts without interfering with previously learned knowledge. Motivated by the characteristics of neural networks, in which information is stored in weights on connections, we investigated how to design an Innately Forgetting-Free Network (IF2Net) for continual learning context. This study proposed a straightforward yet effective learning paradigm by ingeniously keeping the weights relative to each seen task untouched before and after learning a new task. We first presented the novel representation-level learning on task sequences with random weights. This technique refers to tweaking the drifted representations caused by randomization back to their separate task-optimal working states, but the involved weights are frozen and reused (opposite to well-known layer-wise updates of weights). Then, sequential decision-making without forgetting can be achieved by projecting the output weight updates into the parsimonious orthogonal space, making the adaptations not disturb old knowledge while maintaining model plasticity. IF2Net allows a single network to inherently learn unlimited mapping rules without telling task identities at test time by integrating the respective strengths of randomization and orthogonalization. STMDNet: A Lightweight Directional Framework for Motion Pattern Recognition of Tiny Targets

Recognizing motions of tiny targets—only few dozen pixels—in cluttered backgrounds remains a fundamental challenge when standard feature-based or deep learning methods fail under scarce visual cues. We propose STMDNet, a model-based computational framework to Recognize motions of tiny targets at variable velocities under low-sampling frequency scenarios. STMDNet designs a novel dual-dynamics-and-correlation mechanism, harnessing ipsilateral excitation to integrate target cues and leakage-enhancing-type contralateral inhibition to suppress large-object and background motion interference. Moreover, we develop the first collaborative directional encoding-decoding strategy that determines the motion direction from only one correlation per spatial location, cutting computational costs to one-eighth of prior methods. Further, simply substituting the backbone of a strong STMD model with STMDNet raises AUC by 24%, yielding an enhanced STMDNet-F. Evaluations on real-world low-sampling frequency datasets show state-of-the-art results, surpassing the deep learning baseline. Across diverse speeds, STMDNet-F improves mF1 by 19%, 16%, and 8% at 240Hz, 120Hz, and 60Hz, respectively, while STMDNet achieves 87 FPS on a single CPU thread. These advances highlight STMDNet as a next-generation backbone for tiny target motion pattern recognition and underscore its broader potential to revitalize model-based visual approaches in motion detection. In order to address the problem of current object detection models being too large to be deployed on robot controllers, this paper proposes improvements to YOLOv5 for real-time detection. The YOLOv5s model is pruned at the Batch Normalization (BN) layer, and further optimized using the OpenVINO tool for quantization. The results demonstrate that our improvements effectively improve the model's inference speed while maintaining its accuracy. Compared to the original YOLOv5 model, the pruned model achieves the same accuracy without degradation, with a 36.6% reduction in parameter count and a 35% reduction in weight storage file size. Furthermore, after optimization with OpenVINO, the final model achieves a FPS of 56.

In recent years, driven by huge engineering demands, industrial Cyber-Physical System (iCPS) has developed rapidly. As an important energy conversion device in iCPS, stable operation of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is very important to ensure the availability of the whole iCPS. In this paper, based on Lyapunov stability theory, the function projective synchronization (FPS) of chaotic PMSM systems with certain and uncertain system parameters are investigated, respectively. The proposed control method is proved by using explicit numerical theory and then applied in numerical simulations. From the results of simulations, effectiveness of the control method is obviously. Our study can solve the synchronization and motors coordination problem in industry manufacture.

Electric vehicles are equipped with a large number of lithium-ion battery cells. To achieve superior performance and guarantee safety and longevity, there is a fundamental requirement for a Battery Management System (BMS). In the BMS, accurate prediction of the State-of-Charge (SOC) is a crucial task. The SOC information is needed for monitoring, controlling, and protecting the battery, e.g. to avoid hazardous over-charging or over-discharging. Nonetheless, the SOC is an internal cell variable and cannot be straightforwardly obtained. This paper presents a Kalman Filter (KF) approach based on an optimized second-order Rc equivalent circuit model to carefully account for model parameter changes. An effective machine learning technique based on Proximal Policy optimization (PPO) is applied to train the algorithm. The results confirm the high robustness of the proposed method to varying operating conditions.

The precise segmentation and tracking of cells in microscopy image sequences play a pivotal role in biomedical research, facilitating the study of tissue, organ, and organism development. However, manual segmentation and tracking of cells is time-consuming and often require professional experiences. Besides, segmenting cells in the images with a low signal-to-noise ratio remains difficult. While deep learning (DL) has become a common method for cell segmentation, few DL- based methods address concurrent cell segmentation and tracking. In this paper, we propose a novel DL approach featuring graph-based tracking for cell segmentation and tracking in microscopy images. We combine Deeplabv3+ for semantic segmentation and ResNet50 for enhanced feature extraction, enabling comprehensive cell detection and instance segmentation. Post-processing, involving non-maxima suppression and outlier detection, refines predictions and produces final segmentation. The tracking method is based on the relative position of graph nodes to track segmented cells, encompassing cell division and apoptosis. We conduct our experiments on the induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell datasets, and the results show that the segmentation and tracking performance of our method yields superior performance compared to the benchmark models. More specifically, our approach achieved DET values of 0.955 and 0.913, TRA values of 0.951 and 0.906, and SEG values of 0.690 and 0.665 on two iPS dataset videos, respectively. Additionally, the performance assessment encompasses four real microscopy datasets from the Cell Tracking Challenge (CTC). Our method greatly reduces the cost of manual labeling and labor-intensive costs. © 2023 IEEE.
