As an important parameter to characterize land surface vegetation, leaf area index (LAI) is not only an important vegetation biophysical parameter that affects surface radiation transfer and material and energy balance, but also an important parameter to connect micro biogeochemical processes such as photosynthesis and respiration of vegetation. Because of the strong inhomogeneity of the lower land surface, correct description of the canopy structure as well as canopy physical and biogeochemical processes is the basis and prerequisite for the correct description of surface radiation characteristics and land-air interaction. In this paper, based on the Community Land Model (CLM4) and Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART) developed by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), the Global LAnd Surface Satellite (GLASS) LAI data are assimilated into the carbon and nitrogen component of CLM4 (CLM4-CN), and the impact of LAI change on climate change on a regional scale is further analyzed in the case of land-atmosphere coupling.

Normal Dynamics: Solving Newton's Equations of Motion in the Reciprocal Space

We here present the Normal Dynamics technique, which provides a way to integrate the Newton's equations of motion by sampling the reciprocal space. We discuss the sampling strategy and show how it is capable to produce dynamical trajectories at the ab initio level on an ordinary desktop computer. The reciprocal space sampling allows to i) obtain a systematic improvement of the results accuracy and a fine control of the computational load, and ii) account for distortions realized across large atomic distances without the use of large unit cells. We present three case studies: the first two are aimed to show the capabilities of the method while in the latter we investigate on the characterization of Raman spectra at different temperatures in MoS2/MX2 transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures. Finally, we discuss how the sampling procedure is general and can be used to simulate periodic, semiperiodic and finite systems such as crystals, slabs, nanoclusters or molecules. © 2023, The Authors. The different conditions of use of a component result in a variety of damage ***,excluding differences in shape and size,used parts show a high degree of uncertainty regarding failure characteristics,quality conditions,and remaining life,which seriously affects the efficiency of a remanufacturing scheme *** to address this problem,a remanufacturing scheme design method based on the reconstruction of incomplete information of used parts is ***,the remaining life of the reconstructed model is predicted by finite element analysis,and the demand for the next life cycle is ***,the scanned 3D damage point cloud data are registered with the original point cloud data using the integral iterative method to construct a missing point cloud model to achieve the restoration of geometric ***,according to reverse engineering and laser cladding remanufacturing,the tool remanufacturing process path can be generated by the tool contact point path section line ***,the proposed method is adopted for turbine blades to evaluate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed *** study proposes a remanufacturing scheme design method based on the incomplete reconstruction of used part information to solve the uncertain and highly personalized problems in remanufacturing.

Vegetation parameter, especially the leaf area index (LAI), is a key variable that take part in the land-atmosphere interaction. Many studies have found that by updating LAI in land surface models can improve the simulation ability for land surface variables. This study used the coupled Community Land Model with explicit carbon and nitrogen components (CLM4CN) and Community Atmosphere Model (CAM) as well as Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART) to update assimilated LAI, to improve the simulation ability for air temperature and precipitation. The Global Land Surface Data Assimilation System (GLDAS) reanalysis data were used to estimate the coupled CLM4CN/CAM/DART performance.

Robust Multiple-Structure Geometric Model Fitting by Preserving Neighborhood Consistency

Geometric model fitting has been widely used in various computer vision applications. However, it remains a challenging task when handling the data that contains multiple model instances (i.e, structures) and a large number of false matches (i.e., outliers) between image pairs. In this paper, we propose a novel Neighborhood-Consistency-based Multiple-structure Fitting method (NCMF) to robustly estimate multiple model instances from the data with outliers, by preserving the neighborhood relationships of potential inliers. Specifically, we first propose a neighborhood consistency preservation algorithm, which explores both the motion pattern consistency and residual pattern consistency of input data, to alleviate the sensitivity to outliers. Consequently, we can produce the significant neighborhood set for each of input data and the reliable neighborhood relationships for data clustering. Then, we propose a robust neighborhoodconsistency-based clustering algorithm by an agglomerative clustering procedure, to effectively distinguish the inliers belonging to different model instances from outliers. In addition, we propose a neighborhood-relationship-based measurement function for data similarity to further make the clustering phase robust to outliers. Overall, NCMF is able to effectively estimate the number and the parameters of model instances from input data simultaneously. Extensive experimental results on several challenging datasets show that the proposed NCMF method can obtain significant superiority over several other state-of-theart model fitting methods on both fitting accuracy and computational efficiency. © 2023, The Authors. The open source CFD library OpenFOAM is used to simulate the process of the crane lifting cargo into the water. In this paper, overset mesh strategy and the overInterDyMFoam solver are used to solve the process of two-dimensional water entry of a wedge. Firstly, the pressure coefficient distribution and free surface profile of wedges with different deadrise angles into the calm water with constant velocity or free-falling are calculated. Furthermore, water entry of a wedge into a wave was studied. The accuracy of the code is verified by comparing with the published academic data and experimental results. © 2020 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).

Exploring the GLIDE model for Human Action-effect Prediction

We address the following action-effect prediction task. Given an image depicting an initial state of the world and an action expressed in text, predict an image depicting the state of the world following the action. The prediction should have the same scene context as the input image. We explore the use of the recently proposed GLIDE model for performing this task. GLIDE is a generative neural network that can synthesize (inpaint) masked areas of an image, conditioned on a short piece of text. Our idea is to mask-out a region of the input image where the effect of the action is expected to occur. GLIDE is then used to inpaint the masked region conditioned on the required action. In this way, the resulting image has the same background context as the input image, updated to show the effect of the action. We give qualitative results from experiments using the EPIC dataset of ego-centric videos labelled with actions. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This paper proposes and experimentally implements new phase-locked loop algorithms using non-adaptive and adaptive terminal sliding modes for the three-phase grid-connected inverters. The proposed algorithms aim to extract the grid voltage phase and frequency and provide them for the inverter controller. The proposed sliding mode-based PLL algorithms provide faster, more robust, and more accurate detection of the grid voltage information compared to the conventional PI-PLL. This leads to better current controller performance and subsequently, improves the quality of the injected currents into the grid. The finite-time stability notion is incorporated with robust sliding modes to ensure a fast convergence rate. An adaptive law is proposed to determine a proper value for the switching gain which leads to a better overall performance of the PLL compared with a non-adaptive one. The Lyapunov stability theory is used to obtain the stability proofs of the closed-loop systems under both designed sliding modes-based PLLs. The proposed PLL algorithms are validated by simulation and experimental results for the three-phase grid-connected inverter under normal and various abnormal grid conditions.

Machine learning is a key component of many applications, among which decentralized learning has attracted wide attention because of its cost-effectiveness and high efficiency. However, decentralized learning is vulnerable to various Byzantine attacks. Existing defense models face challenges in defending against complex attacks and are often constrained by strict network topologies. To address this issue, a parameter aggregation rule based on reputation evaluation (RPV) is proposed in this paper. This rule establishes a reputation model for neighboring nodes and continuously updates it based on their distance performance during each iteration. By applying the reputation model of neighboring nodes to the Beta distribution, their reliability is obtained. Based on the reliability of neighboring nodes, the set of reliable nodes for this iteration and select parameter values from them for aggregation are determined. Finally, we gradually eliminate the influence of Byzantine nodes. Our experimental results on the MNIST dataset demonstrate that the proposed algorithm is resilient to attacks from any number of Byzantine nodes and outperforms previous defense models in terms of network topology constraints, training accuracy, and computational costs.

In the process of offshore working, payloads of offshore cranes may suffer from flow disturbances. In this work, OpenFOAM is used to simulate the interaction between payloads and the ocean flow after it enters water. Firstly, two-dimensional model of flow around cylinder at a low Reynolds and the cylinder free-falling in fluids are verified with the existing data to verify the model. On this basis, the overset dynamic grid technique is used to simulate the free fall of the horizontal cylinder in flow. The extensive simulation results can be used to further study the safe movement control of underwater payloads. © 2020 by the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE).
