We study optimal transport-based distributionally robust optimization problems where a fictitious adversary, often envisioned as nature, can choose the distribution of the uncertain problem parameters by reshaping a prescribed reference distribution at a finite transportation cost. In this framework, we show that robustification is intimately related to various forms of variation and Lipschitz regularization even if the transportation cost function fails to be (some power of) a metric. We also derive conditions for the existence and the computability of a Nash equilibrium between the decision-maker and nature, and we demonstrate numerically that nature’s Nash strategy can be viewed as a distribution that is supported on remarkably deceptive adversarial samples. Finally, we identify practically relevant classes of optimal transport-based distributionally robust optimization problems that can be addressed with efficient gradient descent algorithms even if the loss function or the transportation cost function are nonconvex (but not both at the same time). © 2023, CC BY.

This paper presents experiments for embedded cooperative distributed model predictive control applied to a team of hovercraft floating on an air hockey table. The hovercraft collectively solve a centralized optimal control problem in each sampling step via a stabilizing decentralized real-time iteration scheme using the alternating direction method of multipliers. The efficient implementation does not require a central coordinator, executes onboard the hovercraft, and facilitates sampling intervals in the millisecond range. The formation control experiments showcase the flexibility of the approach on scenarios with point-to-point transitions, trajectory tracking, collision avoidance, and moving obstacles. This paper studies the algorithm design of variance-constrained H∞ state estimation problem for delayed memristive neural networks with adaptive event-triggered mechanism. The denial-of-service attacks are modeled by a series of random variables obeying the Bernoulli distribution with known probability. In addition, the adaptive event-triggered mechanism is introduced into the sensor-to-estimator to avoid unnecessary resource consumption. Our purpose is to construct a finite-horizon state estimation algorithm, and sufficient condition is obtained for the estimation error system satisfying the H∞ performance requirement and the error variance boundedness. Finally, a numerical example is used to illustrate the feasibility of the presented H∞ state estimation algorithm. © 2022 IEEE.

Aiming at the problem of the architecture of the automation control system of traditional buildings, Tsinghua University proposed swarm intelligence building technology. However, most of the electrical equipment in completed buildings is not designed for swarm intelligence technology, and a large number of heterogeneous devices can't communicate with Swarm Intelligence Computing network platform, which leads to the difficulty of the system promotion. This paper develops a multi-purpose gateway for swarm intelligence. On the basis of solving the data interaction between terminal equipment of swarm intelligence control system and computing network, it reduces the requirement of network bandwidth through preprocessing of data, and completes the feasibility test of gateway in lighting unit. © 2021 IEEE.

control architectures and autonomy stacks for complex engineering systems are often divided into layers to decompose a complex problem and solution into distinct, manageable sub-problems. To simplify designs, uncertainties are often ignored across layers, an approach with deep roots in classical notions of separation and certainty equivalence. But to develop robust architectures, especially as interactions between data-driven learning layers and model-based decision-making layers grow more intricate, more sophisticated interfaces between layers are required. We propose a basic architecture that couples a statistical parameter estimation layer with a constrained optimization layer. We show how the layers can be tightly integrated by combining bootstrap resampling with distributionally robust optimization. The approach allows a finite-data out-of-sample safety guarantee and an exact reformulation as a tractable finite-dimensional convex optimization problem. © 2021, CC BY.

Aerial image stitching is very important in obtaining UAV information. The Speeded Up Robust Features Algorithm (SURF) is an image matching method with high robustness. However, the SURF algorithm subjects to the problems of inexact edge positioning and low matching accuracy. In order to obtain high-precision aerial stitching images with high efficiency, an aerial image stitching algorithm based on long-distance features is proposed in this paper. First, the Canny-SURF algorithm is used for feature detection. After that, the Long-Fast Retina Keypoint (L-FREAK) binary symbol is used to describe and match the feature points. Finally, the Random Sample Consensus Algorithm (RANSAC) is used to compute the projection transformation model, and the weighted average fusion algorithm is used to fuse the pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is outperform the SIFT, SURF, ORB, and BRISK algorithms. The proposed algorithm has good stitching accuracy, and can stitch aerial images with wide rotation characteristics. © 2021 IEEE.

Kernel least mean square (KLMS) algorithm is a popular method for online time-series prediction. It has the advantages of high robustness, low computational complexity, model simplicity, and online learning ability. Unfortunately, as input data grows, its dictionary size increases and the computational complexity rises significantly. In addition, how to improve the adaptability in uncertain environments with noise is also one of the main challenges. In this paper, we propose a Quantized Kernel Least-mean-square Based on Echo State Network (ES-QKLMS) algorithm in response to the above problems. In the new algorithm, the reservoirs of the echo state network (ESN) are integrated with the KLMS algorithm for online prediction. The ESN reservoir can store the associated information of historical data, which improves the algorithm's ability to track temporal characteristics. Then, the vector quantization method is adopted to suppress the size of the KLMS dictionary. Moreover, the adaptive weight adjustment is used to improve the noise immunity in an uncertain environment. At last, The Lorenz time series and the El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) time series are discussed to demonstrate the efficacy of the ES-QKLMS algorithm. © 2021 IEEE.

Facile construction of N-doped TiO2 nanohybrids with enriched oxygen vacancies for enhanced photocatalytic green hydrogen production

A series of N-doped TiO2 nanohybrids (xN-TiO2) were successfully prepared via a facile solvothermal route by using oleylamine as N source, for enhancing photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The doped-N atoms induced the generation of abundant oxygen vacancies (OVs). The resulted impurity and defect levels in xN-TiO2 contributed to their narrowed band gap, enhanced visible light response, and promoted separation and transfer of photogenerated carrier. Moreover, the N-doping optimized the distribution of OVs, and therefore affect the conduction band (CB) location of catalyst. Herein, the 3N-TiO2 catalyst with excellent photoelectric properties and appropriate CB location, showed the photocatalytic HER rate of 3984.71 μmol h−1 g−1 under the simulated sunlight irradiation, which was 5.5 and 29.0 times that of the undoped TiO2 and commercial P25, respectively. Meanwhile, the 3N-TiO2 catalyst exhibited the excellent stability and salt-resistance. This work provides a novel insight for the band alignment of photocatalysts by defects regulation, and opens the new possibility for synthesizing N-doped TiO2 catalyst by a more practical and safe method. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd and Techna Group S.r.l.

This paper studies the evolution of an expressed and private opinion dynamics model with asynchronous updating. It is shown that under some mild connectivity and individual activation conditions, the expressed and private opinions of all individuals in the network converge to a common value exponentially fast when the susceptibility to influence of all individuals is equal to one. A numerical example verifies the theoretical result. © 2020 IEEE.

COF-derived porous nitrogen-doped carbon for removal of emerging organic contaminants and efficient uranium extraction from seawater

The development of adsorbents for efficient and highly selective seawater extraction of uranium was instrumental in fostering sustainable progress in energy and addressing the prevailing energy crisis. However, the complex background composition of the marine environment, including radionuclides, organic pollutants, and a large number of co-existing heavy metal ions, were non-negligible obstacles to the extraction of uranium from seawater. The present investigation successfully employed a self-templated approach to synthesize porous nitrogen-doped carbon (PNC) derived from COF, which exhibited tremendous potential as an adsorbent for pollutant removal in environmental treatment. LZU1@PNC not only retained the structural features of the original COF-LZU1, but also overcame the acid-base instability problem commonly found in COFs. Subsequently, the removal process of two typical water pollutants on the material was investigated using 2,4-DCP and [UO2(CO3)3]4-. The results demonstrated that LZU1@PNC exhibited superior removal performance for the target pollutants compared to COF-LZU1, owing to its larger specific surface area and abundant defect structure. After six desorption-regeneration cycles, LZU1@PNC still maintained a high removal rate of the target contaminants, demonstrating the stability of this material and its excellent recyclability. In addition, based on various characterization techniques, the removal mechanism of 2,4-DCP was presumed to be mainly electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and π-π stacking interactions. Conversely, the elimination process of [UO2(CO3)3]4- predominantly relied on surface complexation phenomena. The present investigation provided new perspectives and stimulated a broader study of other COF-derived carbon materials and their modifications as adsorbents for uranium extraction from seawater and other applications. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd
