In-situ synthesis of N, S co-doped hollow carbon microspheres for efficient catalytic oxidation of organic contaminants

Metal-free heteroatom doped nanocarbons are promising alternatives to the metal-based materials in catalytic ozonation for destruction of aqueous organic contaminants. In this study, N, S co-doped hollow carbon microspheres (NSCs) were synthesized from the polymerization products during persulfate wet air oxidation of benzothiazole. The contents of doped N and S as well as the structural stability were maneuvered by adjusting the subsequent N_(2)-annealing temperature. Compared with the prevailing single-walled carbon nanotubes, the N_(2)-annealed NSCs demonstrated a higher catalytic ozonation activity for benzimidazole degradation. According to the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis, the synergistic effect between the graphitic N and the thiophene-S which redistributed the charge distribution of the carbon basal plane contributed to the activity enhancement of the N_(2)-annealed NSCs. Additionally, the hollow structure within the microspheres served as the microreactor to boost the mass transfer and reaction kinetics via the nanoconfinement effects. Quenching and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) tests revealed that benzimidazole degradation was dominated by the produced singlet oxygen (^(1)O_(2)) species, while hydroxyl radicals (^(·)OH) were also generated and participated. This study puts forward a novel strategy for synthesis of heteroatom-doped nanocarbons and sheds a light on the relationship between the active sites on the doped nanocarbons and the catalytic performance.

In the era of Big Data, effective data reduction through feature selection is of paramount importance for machine learning. This paper presents GLEm-Net (Grouped Lasso with Embeddings Network), a novel neural framework that seamlessly processes both categorical and numerical features to reduce the dimensionality of data while retaining as much information as possible. By integrating embedding layers, GLEm-Net effectively manages categorical features with high cardinality and compresses their information in a less dimensional space. By using a grouped Lasso penalty function in its architecture, GLEm-Net simultaneously processes categorical and numerical data, efficiently reducing high-dimensional data while preserving the essential information. We test GLEm-Net with a real-world application in an industrial environment where 6 million records exist and each is described by a mixture of 19 numerical and 7 categorical features with a strong class imbalance. A comparative analysis using state-of-the-art methods shows that despite the difficulty of building a high-performance model, GLEm-Net outperforms the other methods in both feature selection and classification, with a better balance in the selection of both numerical and categorical features. © 2023 IEEE.

Modern industrial processes with increasing complexity not only contain nonlinear and multi-mode characteristics, but also are commonly the dynamic processes, which brought challenging problems to soft sensor modeling. In order to solve these problems, a dynamic mixture variational autoencoder regression (DMVAER) model is proposed for the nonlinear multi-mode modeling, which is suitable for industrial process quality prediction with multiple complex process characteristics. Furthermore, in order to deal with the problem of semi-supervised data with a large number of unlabeled samples, a semi-supervised dynamic mixture variational autoencoder regression (ssDMVAER) model is proposed, and the corresponding semi-supervised data sequence division method is adopted to make full use of the information in both labeled data and unlabeled data. Finally, in order to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods, the two models are applied to an actual industrial process of methanation furnace. The results show that the proposed methods have superior soft sensing performance than existing methods. © 2022 IEEE.

Aiming at the single-view angle through-wall radar in the process of human behavior recognition there is a viewpoint blind area, resulting in the inability to accurately identify the movement state of the human target behind the wall. In this paper, based on the multi-view through-wall radar system, a multi-view through-wall human behavior recognition method based on attention fusion is proposed. Firstly, the features of the radar distance image are enhanced by the method of clutter suppression and compensated gain to, and the dataset is constructed in this way. Secondly, we use the improved DenseNet to extract features from the distance image data of the two viewpoints, and finally, we use the attention mechanism to calculate the weight information of the radar echo signals of the two viewpoints, and then we fuse the two action feature information according to this weight data, and input the classifier to get the behavior recognition results. The experimental results show that the behavior recognition method proposed in this paper achieves better results compared with the existing behavior recognition methods. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. The dehalogenation of organohalides has been a research hotspot in bioremediation field;however,the influence of tourmaline,a natural ore that can generate spontaneous electric field,on organohalide-respiring bacteria(OHRB)and their dechlorination process is not well *** this study,the effect and mechanism of tourmaline on the reductive dechlorination of 2,3-dichlorophenol(2,3-DCP)by Desulfitobacterium hafniense DCB-2Twere *** characterization results confirmed that tourmaline had good stability and the optimal dosage of tourmaline was 2.5 g/L,which shortened the total time required for dechlorination reaction to 72 ***,tourmaline amendment also increased the proportion of 2-chlorophenol(2-CP)from 18%to 30%of end products,while that of 3-CP decreased *** theoretical calculations showed that the bond charge of the orthosubstituted chlorine declined from-0.179 to-0.067,and that of meta-substituted chlorine increased from-0.111 to-0.129,which indicated that the spontaneous electric field of tourmaline affected the charge distribution of 2,3-DCP and was more conducive to the generation of ***,tourmaline with the spontaneous electric field affected the reductive dechlorination pathway of Desulfitobacterium,and the tourmaline-OHRB combining system might serve as a novel strategy for the bioremediation of environments polluted with chlorinated phenols.

For nonlinear (NL) Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) systems with uncertain dynamics, we propose in this study an indirect adaptive neural control strategy using a neural network (NN) based on a variable learning rate (VLR). The developed VLRs are utilized to ensure rapid NN parameter adaption, learn the NE and the NC, reduce the tracking error and assure a faster output convergence. Through numerical simulations, the proposed VLRs effectiveness is demonstrated. © 2022 IEEE.

To explore data-driven soft sensors and enhance the model explainability, a temporal graph convolutional network is proposed for chemical processes with distributed outputs. It can model process variable relationships in the form of a topology graph. Firstly, the subgraph from prior knowledge is constructed and supplemented using mutual information. In this way, the advantages of both prior knowledge and process data are explored to construct the topology graph. Then, the spatial and temporal dependencies are captured by a graph convolutional layer and a gated recurrent unit, respectively. Finally, a soft sensor based on the spatiotemporal graph convolutional network is established for quality prediction of the chemical process with distributed outputs. The effectiveness of the proposed model is verified by molecular weight distribution prediction of a styrene radical polymerization process. © 2023 IEEE.
