Excitons,bound electron–hole pairs,in two-dimensional hybrid organic inorganic perovskites(2D HOIPs)are capable of forming hybrid light-matter states known as exciton-polaritons(E–Ps)when the excitonic medium is confined in an optical *** the case of 2D HOIPs,they can self-hybridize into E–Ps at specific thicknesses of the HOIP crystals that form a resonant optical cavity with the ***,the fundamental properties of these self-hybridized E–Ps in 2D HOIPs,including their role in ultrafast energy and/or charge transfer at interfaces,remain ***,we demonstrate that>0.5µm thick 2D HOIP crystals on Au substrates are capable of supporting multiple-orders of self-hybridized E–P *** E–Ps have high Q factors(>100)and modulate the optical dispersion for the crystal to enhance sub-gap absorption and *** varying excitation energy and ultrafast measurements,we also confirm energy transfer from higher energy E–Ps to lower energy E–***,we also demonstrate that E–Ps are capable of charge transport and transfer at *** findings provide new insights into charge and energy transfer in E–Ps opening new opportunities towards their manipulation for polaritonic devices.

The field of terahertz devices is important in terahertz ***,most of the current devices have limited functionality and poor *** improve device performance and achieve multifunctionality,we designed a terahertz device based on a combination of VO_(2)and *** device can be tuned using the phase-transition characteristics of VO_(2),which is included in the triple-layer structure of the device,along with SiO_(2)and *** terahertz device exhibits various advantageous features,including broadband coverage,high absorption capability,dynamic tunability,simple structural design,polarization insensitivity,and incidentangle *** simulation results showed that by controlling the temperature,the terahertz device achieved a thermal modulation range of spectral absorption from 0 to *** 313 K,the device exhibited complete reflection of terahertz *** the temperature increased,the absorption rate also *** the temperature reached 353 K,the device absorption rate exceeded 97.7%in the range of 5-8.55 *** study used the effective medium theory to elucidate the correlation between conductivity and temperature during the phase transition of VO_(2).Simultaneously,the variation in device performance was further elucidated by analyzing and depicting the intensity distribution of the electric field on the device surface at different ***,the impact of various structural parameters on device performance was examined,offering valuable insights and suggestions for selecting suitable parameter values in real-world *** characteristics render the device highly promising for applications in stealth technology,energy harvesting,modulation,and other related fields,thus showcasing its significant potential.

Unlocking high-performance HCl adsorption at elevated temperatures: the synthesis and characterization of robust Ca–Mg–Al mixed oxides

The presence of HCl and SO2 gas imposes limitations on syngas utilization obtained from household waste in a wide range of applications. The hydrotalcite-like compounds (HTLs) have been proved that could remove HCl efficiency. However, the research on impact of synthesis conditions of HTLs and SO2 on HCl removal was limited. In this study, a range of Ca–Mg–Al mixed oxide sorbents was synthesized by calcining HTLs, with variations in crystallization temperature, solution pH, and the Ca/Mg molar ratio. These sorbents were examined for their effectiveness in removing HCl at medium–high temperatures under diverse conditions. The adsorption performance of selected sorbents for the removal of HCl, SO2, and HCl-SO2 mixed gas at temperature of 350 °C, 450 °C, and 550 °C, respectively, was evaluated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). It was observed that the HTL synthesis parameters significantly influenced the HCl adsorption capacity of Ca–Mg–Al mixed oxides. Notably, HTLs synthesized at 60 °C, a solution pH of 10–11, and a Ca/Mg ratio of 4 exhibited superior crystallinity and optimal adsorption characteristics. For individual HCl and SO2 removal, temperature had a minor effect on HCl adsorption but significantly impacted SO2 adsorption rates. At temperatures above 550 °C, SO2 removal efficiency substantially decreased. When exposed to a mixed gas, the Ca–Mg–Al mixed oxides could efficiently remove both HCl and SO2 at temperatures below 550 °C, with HCl dominating the adsorption process at higher temperatures. This dual-action capability is attributed to several mechanisms through which HTL sorbents interacted with HCl, including pore filling, ion exchange, and cation exchange. Initially, HCl absorbed onto specific sites created by water and CO2 removal due to the surface’s polarity. Subsequently, HCl reacted with CaCO3 and CaO formed during HTL decomposition. Walking on the water surface is an effective method for miniature robots to transport payloads with dramatically decreased interfacial drag. Current aquatic robots reported are generally actuated by a beam of focused light that can trigger asymmetrical deformation, enabling the directional movement through horizontal momentum transfer of photoinduced actuation force to the water. However, the operations are heavily dependent on manual manipulation of the focused light, making the long-term actuation and application of the aquatic robots in vast scenarios challenging. Herein, we developed a kind of water striderinspired robot that can autonomously manage the motion on the water surface under solar irradiation, with their direction steerable by a magnetic field. The motion of this bioinspired robot on the water surface was achieved by the use of a solar cell panel as a driving module to enable propulsive motion based on the conversion of light-electric-mechanical energies. The superhydrophobic design of its leg surfaces enables the aquatic robots with weight-bearing and drag-reducing abilities. With the assistance of magnetic navigation, the bioinspired robot can continuously and controllably locomote to the oily spill floating on the water body and collect them with high efficiency. For further demonstration, the treatment of oil spills in a campus pool with high efficiency has also been achieved. This on-site oil-spill treating strategy, taking advantage of a home-made bioinspired robot actuated by natural sunlight under magnetic steering, shows great potential applications in water-body remediation.

Synthetic biology has revolutionized the creation of microbial cell factories for the efficient production of value-added chemicals and materials from renewable resources. The rational design of these factories is based on the ability to precisely regulate the expression of multiple genes, enabling the programming of cells to exhibit desired behaviors. Tools for modulating gene expression facilitates the construction of intricate genetic circuits and complex metabolic pathways optimized for the efficient production of target chemicals and materials. In this review, we delve into recent synthetic biology tools and strategies that are used to efficiently control transcription, translation, as well as other gene expression-related processes. Representative examples emphasizing their practical applications are also illustrated. Additionally, we discuss future perspectives on the development and application of gene expression modulation tools, envisioning their pivotal role towards fostering a more sustainable bio-based economy.

With the prevalence of new wearable devices and personal sensing, model fitting from real-world human-generated data has become a topic of interest in the fields of bioengineering, sports science, and medical engineering. In this study we analyze a fitting procedure based on evolutionary learning for human heart rate during treadmill exercise. We propose a new fitness function for the genetic algorithm based on the Pearson correlation coefficient and the coefficient of determination. This study utilizes real-world experimental data collected for linearity analysis, baseline model fitting, and validation, and includes statistical analysis of validation data. Results show that compared with a classical fitness function based on the root mean of square error, the proposed function is suitable for model fitting. © 2024, Politechnica University of Bucharest. Chimera-inspired dynamics: When higher-order interactions are expressed differently

The exploration of chimera-inspired dynamics in nonlocally coupled networks of Kuramoto oscillators with higher-order interactions is still in its nascent stages. Concurrently, the investigation of collective phenomena in higher-order interaction networks is gaining attraction. Here, we observe that hypergraph networks tend to synchronize through lower-order interactions, whereas simplicial complex networks exhibit a preference for higher-order interactions. This observation suggests that higher-order representations manifest substantial differences in chimera-inspired synchronization regions. Moreover, we introduce an explicit expression for identifying the chimera state. With a comprehensive basin stability analysis and the interplay of pairwise and higher-order interaction strengths, the emergence of the chimera state is inherent in high-order interaction networks. Our findings contribute to the understanding of chimera-inspired dynamics in higher-order interaction networks.

Sensor network localization (SNL) is a challenging problem due to its inherent non-convexity and the effects of noise in inter-node ranging measurements and anchor node position. We formulate a non-convex SNL problem as a multiplayer non-convex potential game and investigate the existence and uniqueness of a Nash equilibrium (NE) in both the ideal setting without measurement noise and the practical setting with measurement noise. We first show that the NE exists and is unique in the noiseless case, and corresponds to the precise network localization. Then, we study the SNL for the case with errors affecting the anchor node position and the inter-node distance measurements. Specifically, we establish that in case these errors are sufficiently small, the NE exists and is unique. It is shown that the NE is an approximate solution to the SNL problem, and that the position errors can be quantified accordingly. Based on these findings, we apply the results to case studies involving only inter-node distance measurement errors and only anchor position information inaccuracies. © 2024 IEEE.

The leader-following asymptotic consensus problem for general discrete-time linear multi-agent systems over jointly con-nected switching networks was solved about a decade ***,the leader-following exponential consensus was further established using the so-called Krasovskii-LaSalle theorem for a class of discrete-time linear switched *** this method involves some advanced concepts such as the weak zero-state detectability of some limiting *** this paper,we offer a simpler solution to the leader-following exponential consensus problem for general discrete-time linear multi-agent systems over jointly connected switching *** converting the solvability of the problem to the establishment of the exponential stability for a class of discrete-time linear switched systems,we first show that this class of linear switched systems is uniformly completely ***,we further conclude that the uniform complete observability for this class of linear switched systems implies the exponential stability for the same class of linear switched systems,thus leading to the solution of the leader-following exponential consensus ***,our approach also gives rise to an explicit characterization of the exponential convergence rate of the leader-following consensus problem.
