Visually impaired people face lots of challenges when doing daily tasks like grocery shopping. Hence, a grocery shopping navigation assistant that covers the shopping preparation, the route creation, the navigation through the store and the product identification has been designed. In this paper we present the design flow of a novel system using the Internet of Things (IoT) and computer Vision (CV) to assist people with visual impairment (PVI) for grocery shopping. The system starts with assisting the user creating his shopping list using the personal smart phone and Speech-to-Text (STT). Then, the system accesses the database of grocery store to optimizes the route for locating the items in the shopping list with minimal time and effort. Once the route is created and the user is in the store, the smart phone physical navigation system starts using landmarks-QR codes and using Text-to-Speech (TTS) for guidance. When the user is correctly placed, the product recognition starts and TTS is used to fetch the product. © 2022 IEEE.

The rapid development of the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has brought about an enormous amount of healthcare data. Effectively and securely processing this sensitive data has become a significant challenge for green communication and privacy protection of the IoMT. As a decentralized learning framework, Federate learning (FL) enables model training without directly aggregating users' raw data, thus ensuring user privacy protection. Moreover, numerous studies have put forth various approaches to enhance the efficiency of FL by minimizing communication costs, yet they may not fully account for the unique characteristics of IoMT. Specifically, the efficiency and performance of model training are closely related to patient life and health. Meanwhile, existing research has indicated that reducing communication costs can result in a decline in training accuracy, which may be critical to patient health. Therefore, aimed at green communication and ensuring the model accuracy, we design a communication-efficient personalized federated learning framework, namely pFedCAS. Specifically, we introduce a control unit, which enables adaptive sparsity of local models, to reduce training costs. Furthermore, a selection unit based on communication quality is added into the global aggregation, which can select suitable clients for model updating. Simulation results validate that the proposed method can significantly reduce communication costs while ensuring the model accuracy. Additionally, The simulation results also validate the excellent robustness of our method to non-iid healthcare data.

Covert communication assisted by intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) has been widely investigated. Specifically, IRS can reconfigure wireless propagation environment to introduce uncertainty to the warden for covertness provisioning. In this paper, we propose an IRS-assisted finite-blocklength covert communication scheme with unequal transmit prior probabilities (UTPP) resulting from random packet generation at the transmitter. First, we analyze the warden's detection performance with its optimal detection threshold derived, which is the worst case for covert transmission. Then, we jointly optimize the transmit power, the blocklength, the phase shifts of IRS, and the transmit prior probabilities to maximize the effective covert throughput (ECT). Theoretical analysis reveal that UTPP can perform better tradeoff between ECT and covertness than equal transmit prior probabilities. Finally, numerical results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed covert communication scheme with UTPP.

Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controllers achieve higher importance due to the high expansion rate of photovoltaic systems. The probability of partial shading conditions (PSCs) is also increased which drastically reduced the maximum power extraction capability from PV systems. In this paper, different types of MPPT algorithms using direct control method have been examined under the same test conditions. The current research trend on MPPT controllers has also been highlighted. This paper considers the problem of monitoring and adaptively estimating an environmental field, such as temperature or salinity, using an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). The AUV moves in the field and persistently measures environmental scalars and its position in its local coordinate frame. The environmental scalars are approximately linearly distributed over the region of interest, and an adaptive estimator is designed to estimate the gradient. By orthogonal decomposition of the velocity of the AUV, a linear time-varying system is equivalently constructed, and the sufficient conditions on the motion of the AUV are established, under which the global exponential stability of the estimation error system is rigorously proved. Furthermore, an estimate of the exponential convergence rate is given, and a reference trajectory that maximizes the estimate of the convergence rate is obtained for the AUV to track. Numerical examples verify the stability and efficiency of the system.

In this paper, the multi-target tracking (MTT) with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarm is investigated in the presence of jammers, where UAVs in the swarm communicate with each other to exchange information of targets during tracking. The communication between UAVs suffers from severe interference, including inter-UAV interference and jamming, thus leading to a deteriorated quality of MTT. To mitigate the interference and achieve MTT, we formulate a interference minimization problem by jointly optimizing UAV’s sub-swarm division, trajectory, and power, subject to the constraint of MTT, collision prevention, flying ability, and UAV energy consumption. Due to the multiple coupling of sub-swarm division, trajectory, and power, the proposed optimization problem is NP-hard. To solve this challenging problem, it is decomposed into three subproblems, i.e., target association, path plan, and power control. First, a cluster-evolutionary target association (CETA) algorithm is proposed, which involves dividing the UAV swarm into the multiple sub-swarms and individually matching these sub-swarms to targets. Second, a jamming-sensitive and singular case tolerance (JSSCT)-artificial potential field (APF) algorithm is proposed to plan trajectory for tracking the targets. Third, we develop a jamming-aware mean field game (JA-MFG) power control scheme, where a novel cost function is established considering the total interference. Finally, to minimize the total interference, a dynamic collaboration approach is designed. Different from traditional alternative iteration algorithms, our proposed dynamic collaboration approach triggers the updates of the sub-swarm division and UAV trajectory, and periodically updates the transmission power. Simulation results validate that the proposed dynamic collaboration approach reduces average total interference, tracking steps, and target switching times by 28%, 33%, and 48%, respectively, comparing to existing baselines. This paper explores the H∞ state estimation problem for a category of discrete-time complex-valued memristive neural networks (CVMNNs). Regarding the studied CVMNNs, the phenomena of the distributed delay and time-varying delay are taken into account so as to describe the system more practically. Firstly, for further effective analysis, the examined CVMNNs are converted to an augmented system that integrates both the real and imaginary dynamics about the initial CVMNNs. To alleviate the communication burden, a representative dynamic event-triggered scheme is employed, for the first time, in the state estimator design of discrete-time CVMNNs. By establishing the Lyapunov functional, a sufficient condition is derived to assure the asymptotical stability of the estimation error system. Subsequently, the explicit expression of the desired estimator is obtained by resolving several matrix inequalities. Ultimately, the efficacy of the designed state estimator is substantiated through a simulation example. © 2025

Secure Communication of Active RIS Assisted NOMA Networks

As a revolutionary technology, reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) has been deemed as an indispensable part of the 6th generation communications due to its inherent ability to regulate the wireless channels. However, passive RIS (PRIS) still suffers from some pressing issues, one of which is that the fading of the entire reflection link is proportional to the product of the distances from the base station to the PRIS and from the PRIS to the users, i.e., the productive attenuation. To tackle this problem, active RIS (ARIS) has been proposed to reconfigure the wireless propagation condition and alleviate the productive attenuation. In this paper, we investigate the physical layer security of the ARIS assisted non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) networks with the attendance of external and internal eavesdroppers. To be specific, the closed-form expressions of secrecy outage probability (SOP) and secrecy system throughput are derived by invoking both imperfect successive interference cancellation (ipSIC) and perfect SIC. The secrecy diversity orders of legitimate users are obtained at high signal-to-noise ratios. Numerical results are presented to verify the accuracy of the theoretical expressions and indicate that: i) The SOP of ARIS assisted NOMA networks exceeds that of PRIS-NOMA, ARIS/PRIS-assisted orthogonal multiple access (OMA);ii) Due to the balance between the thermal noise and residual interference, introducing excess reconfigurable elements at ARIS is not helpful to reduce the SOP;and iii) The secrecy throughput performance of ARIS-NOMA networks outperforms that of PRIS-NOMA and ARIS/PRIS-OMA networks. Background: The widespread use of electronic health records in the clinical and biomedical fields makes the removal of protected health information (PHI) essential to maintain privacy. However, a significant portion of information is recorded in unstructured textual forms, posing a challenge for deidentification. In multilingual countries, medical records could be written in a mixture of more than one language, referred to as code mixing. Most current clinical natural language processing techniques are designed for monolingual text, and there is a need to address the deidentification of code-mixed text. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness and underlying mechanism of fine-tuned pretrained language models (PLMs) in identifying PHI in the code-mixed context. Additionally, we aimed to evaluate the potential of prompting large language models (LLMs) for recognizing PHI in a zero-shot manner. Methods: We compiled the first clinical code-mixed deidentification data set consisting of text written in Chinese and English. We explored the effectiveness of fine-tuned PLMs for recognizing PHI in code-mixed content, with a focus on whether PLMs exploit naming regularity and mention coverage to achieve superior performance, by probing the developed models’ outputs to examine their decision-making process. Furthermore, we investigated the potential of prompt-based in-context learning of LLMs for recognizing PHI in code-mixed text. Results: The developed methods were evaluated on a code-mixed deidentification corpus of 1700 discharge summaries. We observed that different PHI types had preferences in their occurrences within the different types of language-mixed sentences, and PLMs could effectively recognize PHI by exploiting the learned name regularity. With the proliferation of IoT devices, there is an escalating demand for enhanced computing and communication capabilities. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) addresses this need by relocating computing resources to the network edge, thereby delivering swifter and more efficient services. This paper introduces a computation offloading and energy consumption optimization framework that leverages Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS), Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and MEC. The scheme aims to maximize energy efficiency through the optimization of task allocation, RIS phase shifts, and UAV trajectories. By employing the Multi-Agent Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (MATD3) reinforcement learning algorithm, the paper further refines UAV trajectories and RIS configurations. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method surpasses the traditional Concave-Convex Procedure (CCCP) algorithm in both UAV trajectory control and RIS configuration, demonstrating quicker convergence and enhanced stability. The method proves to be adaptable to diverse environments and tasks, showcasing notable benefits in RIS-assisted interference suppression, particularly with large RIS, thereby enhancing UAV data reception rates. Additionally, MATD3 exhibits faster and smoother convergence for extended task durations and smaller RIS scenarios. Simulation results reveal that UAVs tend to move closer to RIS, with energy efficiency falling as IoT tasks increase, affirming the proposed algorithm's high energy efficiency and effectiveness. © 2025 IEEE.
