On convergence of covariance matrix of empirical Bayes hyper-parameter estimator

Regularized system identification has become the research frontier of system identification in the past *** related core subject is to study the convergence properties of various hyper-parameter estimators as the sample size goes to *** this paper,we consider one commonly used hyper-parameter estimator,the empirical Bayes(EB).Its convergence in distribution has been studied,and the explicit expression of the covariance matrix of its limiting distribution has been ***,what we are truly interested in are factors contained in the covariance matrix of the EB hyper-parameter estimator,and then,the convergence of its covariance matrix to that of its limiting distribution is *** general,the convergence in distribution of a sequence of random variables does not necessarily guarantee the convergence of its covariance ***,the derivation of such convergence is a necessary complement to our theoretical analysis about factors that influence the convergence properties of the EB hyper-parameter *** this paper,we consider the regularized finite impulse response(FIR)model estimation with deterministic inputs,and show that the covariance matrix of the EB hyper-parameter estimator converges to that of its limiting ***,we run numerical simulations to demonstrate the efficacy of ourtheoretical results.

Dual-Propagation-Feature Fusion Enhanced Neural CSI Compression for Massive MIMO

Due to the ability of feature extraction, deep learning (DL)-based methods have been recently applied to channel state information (CSI) compression feedback in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Existing DL-based CSI compression methods are usually effective in extracting a certain type of features in the CSI. However, the CSI usually contains two types of propagation features, i.g., non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation-path feature and dominant propagation-path feature, especially in channel environments with rich scatterers. To fully extract the both propagation features and learn a dual-feature representation for CSI, this paper proposes a dual-feature-fusion neural network (NN), referred to as DuffinNet. The proposed DuffinNet adopts a parallel structure with a convolutional neural network (CNN) and an attention-empowered neural network (ANN) to respectively extract different features in the CSI, and then explores their interplay by a fusion NN. Built upon this proposed DuffinNet, a new encoder-decoder framework is developed, referred to as Duffin-CsiNet, for improving the end-to-end performance of CSI compression and reconstruction. To facilitate the application of Duffin-CsiNet in practice, this paper also presents a two-stage approach for codeword quantization of the CSI feedback. Besides, a transfer learning-based strategy is introduced to improve the generalization of Duffin-CsiNet, which enables the network to be applied to new propagation environments. Simulation results illustrate that the proposed Duffin-CsiNet noticeably outperforms the existing DL-based methods in terms of reconstruction performance, encoder complexity, and network convergence, validating the effectiveness of the proposed dual-feature fusion design. © 1972-2012 IEEE.

The detection and characterization of human veins using infrared (IR) image processing have gained significant attention due to its potential applications in biometric identification, medical diagnostics, and vein-based authentication systems. This paper presents a low-cost approach for automatic detection and characterization of human veins from IR images. The proposed method uses image processing techniques including segmentation, feature extraction, and, pattern recognition algorithms. Initially, the IR images are preprocessed to enhance vein structures and reduce noise. Subsequently, a CLAHE algorithm is employed to extract vein regions based on their unique IR absorption properties. Features such as vein thickness, orientation, and branching patterns are extracted using mathematical morphology and directional filters. Finally, a classification framework is implemented to categorize veins and distinguish them from surrounding tissues or artifacts. A setup based on Raspberry Pi was used. Experimental results of IR images demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach in accurately detecting and characterizing human. The developed system shows promising for integration into applications requiring reliable and secure identification based on vein patterns. Our work provides an effective and low-cost solution for nursing staff in low and middle-income countries to perform a safe and accurate venipuncture.

In Non-Geostationary Orbit Satellite Networks (NGOSNs) with a large number of battery-carrying satellites, proper power allocation and task scheduling are crucial to improving data offloading efficiency. In this work, we jointly optimize power allocation and task scheduling to achieve energy-efficient data offloading in NGOSNs. Our goal is to properly balance the minimization of the total energy consumption and the maximization of the sum weights of tasks. Due to the tight coupling between power allocation and task scheduling, we first derive the optimal power allocation solution to the joint optimization problem with any given task scheduling policy. We then leverage the conflict graph model to transform the joint optimization problem into an Integer Linear Programming (ILP) problem with any given power allocation strategy. We explore the unique structure of the ILP problem to derive an efficient semidefinite relaxation-based solution. Finally, we utilize the genetic framework to combine the above special solutions as a two-layer solution for the original joint optimization problem. Simulation results demonstrate that our proposed solution can properly balance the reduction of total energy consumption and the improvement of the sum weights of tasks, thus achieving superior system performance over the current literature. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we investigate the near-field (NF) channel estimation (CE) for extremely large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (XL-MIMO) systems. Considering the pronounced NF effects in XL-MIMO communications, we first establish a joint angle-distance (AD) domain-based spherical-wavefront physical channel model that captures the inherent sparsity of XL-MIMO channels in the NF region. Leveraging the sparsity of the channel, the CE is approached as a task of reconstructing sparse signals. Anchored in this framework, we first propose a compressed sensing algorithm to acquire a preliminary channel estimation. Harnessing the powerful latent representation capability of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), we further propose a GenAI-based approach to refine the estimated channel by employing advanced image denoising techniques. Specifically, we perceive the estimated channel as a noisy color image. Then, we derive the evidence lower bound (ELBO) of the design objective utilizing variational inference and reparameterization techniques, and propose a generative diffusion probabilistic model (GDM) dedicated to denoising. Experimental results indicate that the proposed GDM is capable of offering substantial performance gain in CE compared to existing benchmark approaches in NF XL-MIMO systems. © 2024 IEEE.

Cascading Delays for the High-Speed Rail Network Under Different Emergencies:A Double Layer Network Approach

High-speed rail(HSR) has formed a networked operational scale in China. Any internal or external disturbance may deviate trains’ operation from the planned schedules, resulting in primary delays or even cascading delays on a network scale. Studying the delay propagation mechanism could help to improve the timetable resilience in the planning stage and realize cooperative rescheduling for dispatchers. To quickly and effectively predict the spatial-temporal range of cascading delays, this paper proposes a max-plus algebra based delay propagation model considering trains’ operation strategy and the systems’ constraints. A double-layer network based breadth-first search algorithm based on the constraint network and the timetable network is further proposed to solve the delay propagation process for different kinds of emergencies. The proposed model could deal with the delay propagation problem when emergencies occur in sections or stations and is suitable for static emergencies and dynamic emergencies. Case studies show that the proposed algorithm can significantly improve the computational efficiency of the large-scale HSR network. Moreover, the real operational data of China HSR is adopted to verify the proposed model, and the results show that the cascading delays can be timely and accurately inferred, and the delay propagation characteristics under three kinds of emergencies are unfolded.
