engineering, in general, is a non-diverse profession around the globe. Women are one group of minorities in engineering. Despite the fact that controlengineering is heavily based on mathematics, which has a larger number of female students, it has the same proportion of women as other engineering disciplines. To address the issue of low female participation in engineering disciplines both at university and, more importantly, in career, we have developed a workshop that can be carried out in a 90-minute-lecture in the classroom. In this paper, we first explain the context and need for such a workshop and then present the contents of the developed material as a resource for colleagues in the controlengineering community.

This paper focuses on good practice in terms of pedagogies rather than technical content, but with reference to a controlengineering curriculum. A new lecturer will need to ask questions not only about the content of a course but also, how should that content be delivered? The paper presents arguments for a holistic or blended approach to student development and illustrates how that can be wrapped around technical learning outcomes. A core part of this approach is effective use of modern technologies (Rossiter, 2011). This paper provides a summary of good practice and an illustrative benchmark module.

In conducting research and teaching in fields related to unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), it is particularly important to select a universal, safe, open research platform and tools for rapid prototyping. Ready-to-use, low-cost micro-class UAVs such as Bebop 2 are successfully used in that regard. This article presents how to use the potential of this flying robot with Robot Operating System (ROS). The most important software solutions for the developed experimental testbed FlyBebop are characterized here. Their capabilities in research and education are exemplified using three distinct cases: 1) research results on the method of optimal, in-flight, iterative self-tuning of UAV position controller parameters (based only on current measurements), 2) the use of the reinforcement learning method in the autonomous landing of a single drone on a moving vehicle, 3) planning the movement of UAVs for autonomous video recording along the planned path in the arrangement: "cameraman drone" and "lighting technician drones".

The research of the authors is focused on presenting a practical multidisciplinary experiment - an elevator simulator to relate theory and practice inside of a lot of disciplines and to bring the “real world” into a useful case study for electrical and controlengineering education. Through the existence of interesting experiments, students gain motivation either to continue thinking and improving new solutions for building and control of elevators. The concept of the modern elevator is presented in this paper from the perspective of integration of current technological equipment like a programmable logic controller, inverter, encoder, human-machine-interface on which students can develop various control strategies using a SCADA system. The paper presents the some exercises that students can perform on the existent simulator.

This paper describes a use of laboratory device Flexy 2 for purposes of control education. The device is a simple air flow dynamical system where a computer fan is used as an actuator and a flexible resistor as a sensor. Flexy 2 is designed to directly support practical learning in courses focused on automatic control and programming. The device’s properties, principle of operation, dynamical behavior, interfacing features, and general paradigms of usage in education are described. We demonstrate the versatility of the device by providing two case studies that actually take place in our courses. The first is system identification and PID control design via MATLAB and Simulink, and the second is an algorithmic implementation of real time control system using an embedded controller.
