The synchronization problem in network having line, star or combined linestar (tree) topology via communication links with limited capacity is considered. Limit possibilities of nonlinear controlled synchronization systems with first-order coders for multi-dimensional master-slave Lurie systems (linear part plus nonlinearity depending only on measurable outputs) are presented. It is shown that the upper and lower bounds of limited synchronization error are proportional to the maximum coupling signal rate and inversely proportional to the minimum information transmission rate of network communication links (minimum channel capacity). The results are illustrated by example of synchronization in the network of Chua systems coupled via communication links with limited capacity.

Limit possibilities of state estimation under information constraints (limited information capacity of the coupling channel) for multi-input-multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear systems are evaluated. We give theoretical analysis for state estimation of nonlinear systems represented in Lurie form (linear part plus nonlinearity depending only on measurable outputs) with a first-order coder-decoder. It is shown that the upper bound of the limit estimation error is proportional to the upper bound of the transmission error. As a consequence, the upper bound of limit estimation error is proportional to the maximum rate of the coupling signal and inversely proportional to the information transmission rate (channel capacity). The results are applied to state estimation of a nonlinear self-excited mechanical oscillator and a reaction-wheel pendulum.

We show that the problems of mutual, master-slave synchronisation are equivalent (up to a transformation) to a classical output tracking control for certain nonlinear time-varying systems. Therefore, solving any of these problems solves the others however, in the presence of disturbances such an over-simplification of the tracking/synchronisation problem may lead to loss of performance and increase of control efforts. Then, we propose a supervisor controller that ensures asymptotic tracking while keeping synchronisation errors “small”. Further, in the presence of disturbances, we establish input-output-to-state stability. In particular, we address the simultaneous tracking and synchronisation problems for mechanicalsystems.

The stabilization problem for nonlinear dynamical systems under zero-state-detectability assumption or its analogues is considered. The proposed solution ensures finite time practical stabilization of the system and it is based on uniting local and global controllers for the system. The global controller provides boundedness of the system solutions and output convergence to zero, while local one ensures finite time convergence to a prescribed goal set inside the zero dynamics set.
