Quantum self-interference enables the counterfactual transmission of information, whereby the transmitted bits involve no particles traveling through the channel. In this work, we show how counterfactuality can be realized even when the self-interference is replaced by interference between identical particles. Interestingly, the facet of indistinguishability called forth here is associated with first-order coherence, and is different from the usual notion of indistinguishability associated with the (anti-)commutation relations of mode operators. From an experimental perspective, the simplest implementation of the proposed idea can be realized by slight modifications to existing protocols for differential-phase-shift quantum key distribution or interaction-free measurement. © 2022, CC BY.

Cancer is a hazardous ailment, becoming even more ominous due to its capacity to remain unnoticed. The significance of cancer research lies in its role in enhancing both the detection and treatment of this disease, ultimately leading to improved quality of life for affected individuals. The process of edge detection assumes a pivotal role in image processing, as it aids in the identification of object boundaries within images. In recent years, quantum computing has garnered substantial attention for its potential to address complex problems more efficiently than classical computers. In this work, we employed edge-detection technique to annotate images related to breast cancer. We have attempted the portion of cancerous nuclei in one biopsy data sample with several malignant nuclei and validated these findings through manual examination. We have used Quantum Hadamard Edge Detection Algorithm (QHED) to identify the nuclei edges. We implemented the algorithm on quantum simulator platforms ie qiskit and Amazon Web Services (AWS). We present the results from implementation on 4 qubits in AWS simulators i.e. State Vector (SV) Simulator and Density Matrix (DM) Simulator. In qiskit implementation, the algorithm was implemented on 4096 x 4096 pixels of biopsy image, that required 24 qubits in the qiskit platform when performing on a CPU. Further, the research presented herein compares the outcomes of Canny edge detection and the results achieved through quantum edge detection from real data and we observe that the results from the quantum approach are at par with the results obtained from the classical approach.

Securing devices used in the Internet of Things (IoT) applications is a challenging task. This paper provides a succinct review of the challenges in securing the Internet of Things (IoT) devices, types of attacks, software tools for studying IoT security, and existing guidelines to design IoT systems. Main contribution is the focus shift from architecture to devices and propose technological developments that are required for securing the IoT devices. Further, the investigation also studies standards and certifying procedures currently in vogue and proposes future directions to research. The paper also summarizes existing testing methods and technologies that will impact device certification in the future.

ATM Fraud Detection using Streaming Data Analytics

Gaining the trust and confidence of customers is the essence of the growth and success of financial institutions and organizations. Of late, the financial industry is significantly impacted by numerous instances of fraudulent activities. Further, owing to the generation of large voluminous datasets, it is highly essential that underlying framework is scalable and meet real time needs. To address this issue, in the study, we proposed ATM fraud detection in static and streaming contexts respectively. In the static context, we investigated a parallel and scalable machine learning algorithms for ATM fraud detection that is built on Spark and trained with a variety of machine learning (ML) models including Naive Bayes (NB), Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Decision Tree (DT), Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting Tree (GBT), and Multi-layer perceptron (MLP). We also employed several balancing techniques like Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) and its variants, Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), to address the rarity in the dataset. In addition, we proposed a streaming based ATM fraud detection in the streaming context. Our sliding window based method collects ATM transactions that are performed within a specified time interval and then utilizes to train several ML models, including NB, RF, DT, and K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN). We selected these models based on their less model complexity and quicker response time. In both contexts, RF turned out to be the best model. RF obtained the best mean AUC of 0.975 in the static context and mean AUC of 0.910 in the streaming context. In the present scenario, the deployment of AMI and the smart grid requires smart energy meters with minimum quality and compliance. Since the meters are interoperable and adhere to the open protocol standards, the vital part of the qualification process is the protocol testing to guarantee the meters' compliance. Even though many proprietary and foreign tools are available for conformance and parameter testing, they have limitations such as non-interoperability and lack of economic viability. The suggested smart meter testing tool is an indigenously developed, interoperable, and economically feasible tool for testing the conformance, functionality, communicability, and security of smart energy meters. The features of the indigenously developed smart meter testing tool are described in this paper.

This research mainly focused on the design, analyze and simulate the diaphragm based MEMS pressure sensor using squared and slotted squared structure to measure the performance parameters. Four piezoresistor are placed in the weight stone bridge configuration. When pressure is applied to the diaphragm, stress is induced due to the resistance change of the piezoresistors. This piezoresistive pressure sensor with two different structures is designed to evaluate the stress and deformation. It is found that slotted squared structure obtain improved stress and deformation as compared to the squared structure by 2.2% and 1.8% vice versa. Silicon piezo-resistor is replaced with piezoresistors of CNT material and deformation is improved by 1.7%. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This work has as its main goal the investigation and experimentation on automatic generation of routes for tourists and visitors of points of interest, considering the knowledge of the routes, the profile of the visitor and the context awareness of the tour. The context of a trip can be taken through various sources of information, such as the location of the tourist, the time of the visit, the weather conditions, as well as relevant aspects and characteristics of the user's activity and profile. The developments of this work are part of TheRoute project, and its main goal is the development of a route generation module that considers the context of the tourist, the trip and the environmental constraints. In order to solve the proposed problem, two algorithmic solutions were developed. One is an adaption of the A* algorithm with cuts, while the other is based on Ant Colony Optimization, a Swarm Intelligence algorithm. The results from the experiments allowed to conclude that the A* with cuts, oriented to the heuristic for the path with the highest score, is the one that obtains the best conjugation of results for the defined satisfaction metrics. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.

Group decision making is an area that has been studied over the years. Group Decision Support Systems emerged with the aim of supporting decision makers in group decision-making processes. In order to properly support decision-makers these days, it is essential that GDSS provide mechanisms to properly support decision-makers. The application of Machine Learning techniques in the context of argumentation has grown over the past few years. Arguing includes negotiating arguments for and against a certain point of view. From political debates to social media posts, ideas are discussed in the form of an exchange of arguments. During the last years, the automatic detection of this arguments has been studied and it’s called Argument Mining. Recent advances in this field of research have shown that it is possible to extract arguments from unstructured texts and classifying the relations between them. Now a days MEMS based for biomedical applications with high performance parameters like sensitivity and linearity are required for low pressure *** low-pressure range (1–5 kPa) is a significant range that comprises intra-body pressures like intracranial pressure (ICP) and intraocular pressure (IOP).A lot of work on piezoresistive pressure sensor with different shapes diaphragms like squared, circular and rectangular has been carried *** MEMS Piezoresistive Pressure sensors the most important pressure-sensitive component is the squared diaphragm. The performance of the Micro-sensor is directly determined, under uniform applied pressure with its deformation. In pressure sensor design, the accurate relationship between pressure and deformation plays a very consequence role. In this paper, squared diaphragm of silicon material is modeled and simulate using the analytical equations for a thin plate, along with the theory of small-deflection to providing quick insight regarding important parameter like stress and Deformation for the operating pressure range of 0 kPa–5 kPa. The mechanical behavior of micro-machined silicon diaphragm in terms of stress and deflection generation has been simulated. The piezoresistivity principle is used to assess the sensor's sensitivity. The mechanical change in the thin diaphragm in the form of deflection and stress is calculated and presented. In this Modeling both the analytical and simulated(FEA) results for the performance parameters such as stress, Deflection and the output voltage is computed and compared, it is found that the error between analytical and simulation results is no more than 5.6–6.5%. © 2022 The Authors

A Kerr nonlinear parametric oscillator (KPO) can stabilize a quantum superposition of two coherent states with opposite phases, which can be used as a qubit. In a universal gate set for quantum computation with KPOs, an Rx gate, which interchanges the two coherent states, is relatively hard to perform owing to the stability of the two states. We propose a method for a high-fidelity Rx gate by exciting the KPO outside the qubit space with parity-selective transitions, which can be implemented by only adding a driving field. In this method, the utilization of higher effective excited states leads to a faster Rx gate, rather than states near the qubit space. The proposed method can realize a continuous Rx gate and thus is expected to be useful for, e.g., recently proposed variational quantum algorithms.
