Cancer is a hazardous ailment, becoming even more ominous due to its capacity to remain unnoticed. The significance of cancer research lies in its role in enhancing both the detection and treatment of this disease, ultimately leading to improved quality of life for affected individuals. The process of edge detection assumes a pivotal role in image processing, as it aids in the identification of object boundaries within images. In recent years, quantum computing has garnered substantial attention for its potential to address complex problems more efficiently than classical computers. In this work, we employed edge-detection technique to annotate images related to breast cancer. We have attempted the portion of cancerous nuclei in one biopsy data sample with several malignant nuclei and validated these findings through manual examination. We have used Quantum Hadamard Edge Detection Algorithm (QHED) to identify the nuclei edges. We implemented the algorithm on quantum simulator platforms ie qiskit and Amazon Web Services (AWS). We present the results from implementation on 4 qubits in AWS simulators i.e. State Vector (SV) Simulator and Density Matrix (DM) Simulator. In qiskit implementation, the algorithm was implemented on 4096 x 4096 pixels of biopsy image, that required 24 qubits in the qiskit platform when performing on a CPU. Further, the research presented herein compares the outcomes of Canny edge detection and the results achieved through quantum edge detection from real data and we observe that the results from the quantum approach are at par with the results obtained from the classical approach. © 2024 IEEE.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network in which physical things that have Internet access can communicate and share data with other connected objects. IoT is currently gaining popularity due to the large range of applications that it allows. When such applications connect to the Internet, they attempt to send data to other devices across the network. Because certain IoT applications transmit crucial data over the Internet, the data must be protected. However, these IoT devices are limited in terms of power, computation and memory, as well as communication capabilities. IoT devices are being used as a gateway into the larger IoT network. As a result, the security of these devices has become critical in order to protect them from numerous security risks and attacks. There are multiple solutions to mitigate the issue but Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a prominent one that provides hardware based security but designed primarily for large compute platforms (e.g., desktops, laptops, servers, etc.). Because of the limitations of IoT devices, the traditional method is unsuitable for IoT network & devices and a lightweight and optimized mechanism will be required. Firmware-based Lightweight Trusted Platform Module (FLTPM) is our suggested approach for augmenting hardware security to resource-constrained devices, which includes lightweight cryptography algorithms & services related to providing hardware security, and trusted/safe boot mechanisms. The results showed that the proposed solution was optimized, unique, and lightweight for resource constrained IoT devices, and that it functioned well in appropriate environment conditions.

Sustainability of old buildings is constantly challenged due to its non-compliance with energy saving practices. Old buildings which aim to deploy technologies to improve thermal comfort face some infrastructure constraints. The sustainability of such buildings is dependent on occupant's thermal comfort, low carbon emissions and reduced energy consumption. Such buildings face restraints in the way in which wired and wireless technologies could be used to implement sensing and control actions. Constraints include infrastructure limitations and space usage restrictions. This paper discusses retrofit solutions for old buildings for minimizing energy consumption and maximizing the occupant's comfort. The implementation of the retrofitted solution in an existing old building with minimal infrastructure change is elaborated. This includes implementation of thermal comfort based algorithm for zonal damper control, indoor air quality based window control and light sensor based blinds control. The sensing and control action is based on indigenous circuits communicating through ZigBee wireless protocol in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) of motes. A WingZ gateway runs the thermal comfort algorithm and acts as command centre for the WSN. The research aims to demonstrate the possibility of extending sustainability of existing old buildings by using energy conscious building automation solutions where large scale infrastructure change is not possible.

Autonomic computing has received a great deal of attention from the research community in recent years. Many techniques have been proposed to monitor, analyze, and change the system under observation, but less attention has been paid to adapting the autonomic computing loop itself. Based on previous results on the design and implementation of a reference real-time architecture for autonomic computing, a self-adapting loop based on system-specific adaptation knowledge, which includes the types and properties of autonomic computing components, behavioural constraints, and strategies for adaptation is proposed in this paper. The proposed system is an integral part of the real-time system that controls the behaviour of the computing environment, evaluating its global behaviour using criteria that take into account the mathematical description of the time variation of the number of users in the system. Based on this evaluation, the adaptive system changes the control structure of the autonomic computing environment by replacing its controller with one matching the user time variation law. Elements of the self-adapting loop and the tradeoff of introducing additional overhead to the autonomic computing processes are discussed. Securing devices used in the Internet of Things (IoT) applications is a challenging task. This paper provides a succinct review of the challenges in securing the Internet of Things (IoT) devices, types of attacks, software tools for studying IoT security, and existing guidelines to design IoT systems. Main contribution is the focus shift from architecture to devices and propose technological developments that are required for securing the IoT devices. Further, the investigation also studies standards and certifying procedures currently in vogue and proposes future directions to research. The paper also summarizes existing testing methods and technologies that will impact device certification in the future. © 2024 IEEE.

This work has as its main goal the investigation and experimentation on automatic generation of routes for tourists and visitors of points of interest, considering the knowledge of the routes, the profile of the visitor and the context awareness of the tour. The context of a trip can be taken through various sources of information, such as the location of the tourist, the time of the visit, the weather conditions, as well as relevant aspects and characteristics of the user's activity and profile. The developments of this work are part of TheRoute project, and its main goal is the development of a route generation module that considers the context of the tourist, the trip and the environmental constraints. In order to solve the proposed problem, two algorithmic solutions were developed. One is an adaption of the A* algorithm with cuts, while the other is based on Ant Colony Optimization, a Swarm Intelligence algorithm. The results from the experiments allowed to conclude that the A* with cuts, oriented to the heuristic for the path with the highest score, is the one that obtains the best conjugation of results for the defined satisfaction metrics. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.

Classification of rice is carried out by human experts in the industry and apart from other attributes like grain size, elongation ratio, aroma plays a significant role in the classification process. On the basis of aroma, the rice samples are manually categorized as strongly aromatic, moderately aromatic, slightly aromatic and non aromatic. Instrumental evaluation of aroma of rice is much needed in the industry and in this paper, we describe an electronic nose instrument, that has been developed for aroma characterization of rice. Artificial neural network is used for the pattern classification on data obtained from the sensor array of the electronic nose. With unknown rice samples, aroma based classification accuracy has been observed to be more than 80%. © 2011 IEEE.

Group decision making is an area that has been studied over the years. Group Decision Support Systems emerged with the aim of supporting decision makers in group decision-making processes. In order to properly support decision-makers these days, it is essential that GDSS provide mechanisms to properly support decision-makers. The application of Machine Learning techniques in the context of argumentation has grown over the past few years. Arguing includes negotiating arguments for and against a certain point of view. From political debates to social media posts, ideas are discussed in the form of an exchange of arguments. During the last years, the automatic detection of this arguments has been studied and it’s called Argument Mining. Recent advances in this field of research have shown that it is possible to extract arguments from unstructured texts and classifying the relations between them. We report the effect of comorbidity on the survival rates of COVID-19 using quantum machine learning. Recent understanding of the novel coronavirus aims to verify the target organ of the virus, which could lead shortly to significant advances in the diagnosis and treatment of infected patients. An overview of the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 virus based on many different parameters such as age, type of comorbidity, and gender has been studied. The data calculations are done manually by referring to parent articles and using machine learning and quantum machine learning algorithm. It is helpful to verify the target age group, gender at risk of infection, and survival rates of the person. The data used is classical data, and quantum algorithms were run on it. We found out that the accuracy has increased to the classical machine learning state vector machine results. We found that pulmonary diseases are the most harmful type of comorbidity when an individual gets infected with COVID-19. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
