As a new way of building production, construction industry industrialization (CII) involves a variety of project risk. The stakeholders are one of the main factors for the successful implementation of CII. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the risk of the stakeholders. This study systematically reviews the definitions, characteristic, stakeholders, and the risk analysis of CII. Based on the risks involved in the traditional construction projects, this paper summarizes the core issues of the risk study of the stakeholders in CII. This study attempts to systematically study the risk of CII from the perspective of the stakeholders, and thus forms a complete system and theoretical framework for the analysis risk of the stakeholders in CII. It is hoped that it will be helpful to provide some guidance for deepening the participants' understanding and avoid their related risk as well as providing some help for the understanding of the interaction between follow-up risk factors. © 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers.

As is known to all, the construction project is an extremely complex process. Relying on the syndromes, such as many parties, a large amount of investment, long project cycle, and so on, the project management process has many difficulties. Therefore, information management has always been an important part of engineering project management. Based on the overall objectives and requirements of the project information management, this paper constructs a framework of engineering project information management model based on BIM technology. The model framework consists of three levels, user layer, application layer, and data layer. Each participant enters the management model through the user layer, then selects different applications, and accepts the model data provided by the data layer, so that they can achieve the corresponding target management finally. © 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers.

Experimental study on seismic performance of reinforced concrete frame columns supported with post-build wing walls

Six specimens of concrete frame columns reinforced by post-build wing walls on the opposite faces were designed and fabricated to investigate their seismic performance. Axial compression ratio was considered as the critical factor and divided into 0.31, 0.36, and 0.40 before reinforcement. HRB400 steel grade was used to the longitudinal bar and the ratio of longitudinal reinforcement divided into 1.23%, 1.05% and 0.82%, stirrup reinforcement ratio was 0.6%, and the stirrups were made by HPB300 steel grade. To meet with requirement of ‘strong shear, weak bending’, the ratio of the shear span to effective depth of columns was equal to 2.4. All specimens were subjected into cyclic reversing load. The testing results showed that wing walls reinforced significantly increased the seismic bearing capacity of the specimens and the wing walls damaged seriously, but the columns were not. The limited drift was ranged from 0.021 to 0.033. The post-build wing walls under horizontal motion may dissipate energy effectively while ensuring that the existing columns without obvious damage under vertical loads and earthquake strong motion. © Fan and Ying;Licensee Bentham Open.

Carbonation may potentially lead to corrosion of steel bars in reinforced concrete. This concern presents a major barrier against the implementation of sustainable low-clinker cementitious materials in the design of reinforced concrete structures. Various studies have documented the relationship between different equilibrium moisture states in carbonated concrete and the corrosion rate of the embedded steel. However, limited attempts were focused on visually observing the dynamic (time-dependent) behavior of moisture penetration into concrete and the related corrosion state and rate. Moreover, there is a lack of data on the local moisture state in the cementitious matrix in the steel-concrete interfacial zone. In this study, liquid water uptake in carbonated mortar was in-situ and over time monitored by neutron imaging. The corrosion state of embedded steel was monitored by means of electrochemical measurements. This combined experiment revealed that the arrival of the waterfront at the steel surface led to a sharp decrease of the steel potential. The corrosion rate increased from negligibly low values (<1 µm/year) to about 31 µm/year within a couple of minutes. Based on the neutron images, it is concluded that the moisture ingress through the concrete cover is locally affected by the heterogeneity of projected (depth-averaged) porosity distribution, and that large obstacles such as entrapped air have an effect. These observations were further confirmed by numerical simulation results of water transport, which also showed that liquid water permeability of the studied carbonated mortar determined by the inverse analysis is much higher than reported values in the literature. Overall, this study highlights the importance of considering the dynamic and coupled corrosion and moisture transport behavior during the periods which active corrosion can occur in carbonated concrete exposed to cyclic wetting/drying conditions.

Smart construction is an important technology in the process of building a smart city. In recent years, big data has become a hot topic in the whole world. The application of big data technology in smart construction plays a significant role in promoting the construction of new urbanization. The concept and development of smart construction are introduced in this paper. The relationship between big data and smart construction is discussed based on the current development of Chinese construction industry and the difficulties encountered while applying big data technology in smart construction. Due to increasingly complex structures and higher prefabrication rates, the hoisting order of precast components in fabricated buildings is gradually getting attention. During the assembly construction forbidding precast components on site, there are some influencing factors that interfere with the smooth implementation of a hoisting sequence scheme. This paper identifies and analyzes these factors through literature method, on-site investigation, and expert interview to establish an index system affecting the changes of a hoisting sequence scheme. Then, the index system is illustrated through a case, and the results show that the changes of a hoisting sequence scheme caused by transportation management are more than those caused by construction site management. Finally, this paper also discusses some influencing factors that affecting the changes of a hoisting sequence scheme in the premise of allowing precast components to be stacked on site. © 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers.

With the rapid development of computer technology and network technology, the informatization of the architecture engineering construction (AEC) industry is continuously improving. Meanwhile, BIM technology has brought a strong impetus to the development of the construction industry. However, for our country, BIM technology is still in its infancy. The application of BIM technology in the construction industry is still an important issue. Recently, the assembly construction has become the trend of the modern construction industry. By summarizing recent researches on the application of BIM technology in prefabricated building, this paper analyzes the advantages of assembly architecture and BIM technology, then explores the application of BIM technology in fabricated architecture. © 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers.

The goals of this work are two-fold: firstly, to propose a new theoretical framework for representing random fields on a large class of multidimensional geometrical domain in the tensor train format;secondly, to develop a new algorithm framework for accurately computing the modes and the second and third-order cumulant tensors within moderate time. The core of the new theoretical framework is the tensor train decomposition of cumulant functions. This decomposition is accurately computed with a novel rank-revealing algorithm. Compared with existing Galerkin-type and collocation-type methods, the proposed computational procedure totally removes the need of selecting the basis functions or collocation points and the quadrature points, which not only greatly enhances adaptivity, but also avoids solving large-scale eigenvalue problems. Moreover, by computing with third-order cumulant functions, the new theoretical and algorithm frameworks show great potential for representing general non-Gaussian nonhomogeneous random fields. Three numerical examples, including a three-dimensional random field discretization problem, illustrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed algorithm framework. Copyright © 2019, The Authors. Building information modeling (BIM) is regarded as a feasible and efficient tool to realize sustainable construction. A lot of research has been conducted using BIM to evaluate and improve environmental, economic, and social performance of construction. Yet there is still lacking in a review which analyzes the application of BIM in sustainable construction (ABSC). This study utilized a systematic literature searching-selection-classifying method to obtain papers of ABSC research from five databases. To investigate who contributes most in ABSC field, the papers were distributed according to the countries/regions, journals, and research centers. To reveal the research emphasis and research trend in ABSC field, the emphasis of research level, project phase, sustainable dimension, and research topic was analyzed. Based on the analysis results, four critical gaps of ABSC research have been identified, including a lack of an integrated BIM tool for all three sustainable dimensions, unexplored potential of BIM in infrastructure, a lack of sustainable BIM application for maintenance and operation management, and a lack of sustainable BIM application at organizational level. This study will be valuable for researchers to gain an in-depth understanding of research trend and knowledge gaps in ABSC research, and future studies could be conducted to fill the gaps found in this review. © 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers.

The last decades have witness the rapid urbanization in China, which cause the growing demand for affordable housing. Meanwhile, many social and environmental problems arise due to the large-scale rural-urban migration, which attract attention of the government and the public. Comparing with traditional one-site construction, prefabricated construction is more environmentally friendly and labor-saving, exactly meeting the current demand in China. To promote the application of prefabricated construction in the field of affordable housing construction and the sustainable degree of affordable housing construction, this paper first analyzes the relevance and similar characters between prefabricated buildings and affordable housing construction. We further states that prefabricated buildings play a facilitative role in the construction of affordable housing and how affordable housing construction feeds back prefabricated buildings. On this basis, we analyze how to realize the sustainability of affordable housing and put forward a conceptual framework of sustainable affordable housing. © 2018 American Society of Civil Engineers.
