We investigated the fabrication of convex diamond-like carbon (DLC) based microgears in roomerature curing nanoimprint lithography (RTC-NIL) using the ladder-type hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ), as an application for the medical micro electro mechanical system (MEMS). The HSQ which is an inorganic polymer of sol-gel system turns into a gel when exposed to air and has the siloxane bond. Therefore, the HSQ was used as RT-imprinting material, and also used as an oxide mask material in electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) oxygen (O2) ion shower etching. We fabricated the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) mold with concave microgear patterns which has 40, 50 and 60 μm-tip diameter and 300 nm-depth. We carried out the RTC-NIL process using the PDMS mold under the following optimum conditions of 0.10 MPa-imprinting pressure and 1.0 min-imprinting time. We found that the residual layer of imprinted HSQ microgear patterns was removed with ECR trifluoromethane (CHF3) ion shower under the following conditions of 300 eV-ion energy and 2.0 min-etching time, and then microgears of the HSQ on the DLC film were etched with ECR O2 ion shower under the following conditions of 400 eV-ion energy and 10 min-etching time. As a result, the convex DLC based microgears which have 40, 50 and 60 μm-tip diameter and 400 nm-height were fabricated with high accuracy in the new fabrication process of RTC-NIL. © 2016 Materials Research Society.

The deep-mixing soil stabilization method creates improved soilcement columns. The quality of the improved ground must be evaluated constantly. The conventional methods are applied a considerably long time after the completion and depend on the results of tests, necessary for reworks. The applicability of resistivity methods have been developed and studied for evaluating the quality variations of improved ground immediately after the construction. This resistivity method is based on the axial resistivity changes of a cone sensor inserted in the hardening body. As a result, it was proven to be effective in the evaluation of soil-cement columns.

Quality control on the compressive strength of the deep mixing soil using the electrical resistivity method

The controls of quality in the deep mixing stabilized soil methods are normally applied after the conclusion of construction, and depending on the results of tests, it is necessary to re-execution. In this study, it was examined the applicability of quality control methods on the compressive strength of deep mixing stabilized column by electrical resistivity method, comparing the resistivity ratio of 28th and third day age (?28/?3) of field column with the laboratory tests. In addition, by resistivity of 28th day age (?28) of the column and the laboratory, is possible to estimate the compressive strength of improved column.

The purposes of this research are to formulate the equation of motion of the system, to develop computational codes by a finite-element method in order to perform dynamics simulation with vibration control, to propose an effective control scheme and to confirm the calculated results by experiments of a flexible link manipulator. The system used in this paper consists of an aluminum beam as a flexible link, a clamp-part, a servo motor to rotate the link and a piezoelectric actuator to control vibration. Computational codes on time history responses, FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) processing and eigenvalues -eigenvectors analysis were developed to calculate the dynamic behavior of the link. Furthermore, a control scheme using the piezoelectric actuator was designed to suppress the vibration. A proportional controller was designed and demonstrated its performances. The system and the proposed control scheme were confirmed through experiments. The calculated and experimental results revealed that the vibration of the flexible link manipulator can be controlled effectively.

In this paper, we propose a new switching median filter with signal dependent thresholds designed by a genetic algorithm (GA). The switching median filter detects noise-corrupted pixels based on a threshold. Then it restores only the detected pixels. The present switching median filter deals with the random-valued impulse noises, whose distribution is ideally assumed as a uniform distribution. In the present method, the switching median filter, which has two kinds of the thresholds, is introduced. One is switching thresholds to detect the noise, and the other is selecting thresholds to choose the suitable switching threshold. As the suitable selecting threshold, a variance of signals is used. Then all of the switching and selecting thresholds of the proposed switching median filter are automatically optimized by using GA. To optimize the thresholds with GA, distribution distance between the assumed and the detected noises is employed as a fitness function. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by some experiments.

Owing to the occurrence of the Great East Japan Earthquake and a rise in concern about the global warming issue, we are required to review the conventional Japanese life style and to improve our awareness of energy conservation. At schools, education on energy saving as part of the environmental education field attracts our attention. “Technology for visualization of electric power consumption” has been developed as a tool to promote energy saving activity. In this research, we propose a novel system to promote energy saving activity at school using a sensor network, and complete the proto-type equipment and confirm its performance and usefulness. The system has the following features: offers various functions for energy-saving activities, lower price and ease of construction when compared with conventional tools.

Increasing of Java Scripts of malware requires automatic malware detection systems in these days. Our research takes note of the appearence probability and the state transition probability of first order Markov source for both of malware Java Script and other Java Script. The preexperiments found statistical significance. We propose the malware detection method using Mahalanobis-distance with the probability variable of the appearance probability of characters and the probability variable of state transition probability of first order Markov source. As the results of experiments, the method of combining two probability variables proved the effectiveness compared to the method using single probability variable.

We have studied about the fish swimming behavior and evaluated a lot of experimental results in the various water tanks. Furthermore, we have developed the computer simulation codes for fish locomotive behavior as the intellectual animal under the various environments, but these algorithm have been two-dimensional model without the hydrodynamic force. This development of new simulation code based on the 3D model is considered with hydrodynamics. The conventional fluid computation code is difficult to apply the practical fish swimming behavior because it is used the fixed grid system. In this paper, we introduced the new particle method based on the SPH combined with metaball method as rigid body modeling. The metaball method can describes the large deformation of fish body and the fish schooling under water. The formulation of this novel computational method is introduced, and the basics for the evaluation of hydrodynamic force about interaction between metaball system and the hypothetical fluid particle of SPH system through the elementaly numerical experiments.
