The first workshop on Theory-Informed User Modeling for Tailoring and Personalizing Interfaces (HUMANIZE)1 took place in conjunction with the 22nd annual meeting of the intelligent user interfaces (IUI)2 community in Limassol, cyprus on March 13, 2017. The goal of the workshop was to attract researchers from different fields by accepting contributions on the intersection of practical data mining methods and theoretical knowledge for personalization. The CP properties of the coupling between the Higgs boson and the top quark are investigated using 139 fb⁻¹ of proton–proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV. The CP structure of the top quark–Higgs boson Yukawa coupling is probed in events with a Higgs boson decaying into a pair of b-quarks and produced in association with either a pair of top quarks, tt¯H, or a single top quark, tH. Events containing one or two electrons or muons are used for the measurement. Multivariate techniques are used to select regions enriched in tt¯H and tH events, where dedicated CP-sensitive observables are exploited. In an extension of the Standard Model (SM) with a CP-odd admixture in the top–Higgs Yukawa coupling, the mixing angle between CP-even and CP-odd couplings is measured to be α=11−73^∘ ^{∘+52^∘}, compatible with the SM prediction corresponding to α=0.

Search for the Zγ decay mode of new high-mass resonances in pp collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This letter presents a search for narrow, high-mass resonances in the Zγ final state with the Z boson decaying into a pair of electrons or muons. The s=13 TeV pp collision data were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and have an integrated luminosity of 140 fb⁻¹. The data are found to be in agreement with the Standard Model background expectation. Upper limits are set on the resonance production cross section times the decay branching ratio into Zγ. For spin-0 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion, the observed limits at 95% confidence level vary between 65.5 fb and 0.6 fb, while for spin-2 resonances produced via gluon–gluon fusion (or quark–antiquark initial states) limits vary between 77.4 (76.1) fb and 0.6 (0.5) fb, for the mass range from 220 GeV to 3400 GeV. © 2023 The Author(s)

A personal assistance, is a software component offering advanced Human Machine Interface (HMI) features by initiating and making a "conversations" between humans and machines. Its main objective is to identify the sentences and the context from human's question and respectively give an adequate response to the question posed. The proper response is given after analyzing the words of the question with those registered in its database. This type of application is called a personal assistant - chatbot. In this work, such an application is presented where it can be installed in any smart home as well as assisted living environment. Through the application, all automations, as well as the home robot also, are controlled by human voice in Greek language. Also, a number of auxiliary applications can be performed in the direction of better human service. © 2018 Tei of Western Macedonia.

Designs of railway infrastructure (tracks, signalling and control systems, etc.) need to comply with comprehensive sets of regulations describing safety requirements, engineering conventions, and design heuristics. We have previously worked on automating the verification of railway designs against such regulations, and integrated a verification tool based on Datalog reasoning into the CAD tools of railway engineers. This was used in a pilot project at Norconsult AS (formerly Anacon AS). In order to allow railway engineers with limited logic programming experience to participate in the verification process, in this work we introduce a controlled natural language, RailCNL, which is designed as a middle ground between informal regulations and Datalog code. Phrases in RailCNL correspond closely to those in the regulation texts, and can be translated automatically into the input language of the verifier. We demonstrate a prototype system which, upon detecting regulation violations, traces back from errors in the design through the CNL to the marked-up original text, allowing domain experts to examine the correctness of each translation step and better identify sources of errors. We also describe our design methodology, based on CNL best practices and previous experience with creating verification front-end languages. © Springer International Publishing AG 2017.

Detection of atrial fibrillation (AF), a type of cardiac arrhythmia, is difficult since many cases of AF are usually clinically silent and undiagnosed. In particular paroxysmal AF is a form of AF that occurs occasionally, and has a higher probability of being undetected. In this work, we present an attention based deep learning framework for detection of paroxysmal AF episodes from a sequence of windows. Time-frequency representation of 30 seconds recording windows, over a 10 minute data segment, are fed sequentially into a deep convolutional neural network for image-based feature extraction, which are then presented to a bidirectional recurrent neural network with an attention layer for AF detection. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework for transient AF detection, we use a database of 24 hour Holter Electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings acquired from 2850 patients at the university of Virginia heart station. The algorithm achieves an AUC of 0.94 on the testing set, which exceeds the performance of baseline models. We also demonstrate the cross-domain generalizablity of the approach by adapting the learned model parameters from one recording modality (ECG) to another (photoplethysmogram) with improved AF detection performance. The proposed high accuracy, low false alarm algorithm for detecting paroxysmal AF has potential applications in long-term monitoring using wearable sensors. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. In this paper, a low cost e-health platform is evaluated concerning the precision of the employed sensors. The sensors used by the developed e-health platform are not medically certified but are compared against medically certified ones. The developed platform exhibits enhanced key characteristics to cover a broad range of medical scenarios in a reliable and flexible way. A low-cost Sensor Controller capable of performing both simple medical tests and more advanced ones communicates with a Gateway and a tablet or smart phone providing instructions to the patient. The employed protocol used for the communication between the Sensor Controller and the Gateway, supports a variety of sensors with different sampling profiles. The platform exhibits high portability due to the power saving modes that have been employed. However, the sensors’ accuracy is an important issue that is investigated in this paper in order to highlight the medical cases where the (low-cost) developed e-health platform can be used in a fairly reliable way. Such a platform would be especially useful for the enhancement of the quality of life of residents in distant or isolated rural areas. Summary Background Across low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), one in ten deaths in children younger than 5 years is attributable to diarrhoea. The substantial between-country variation in both diarrhoea incidence and mortality is attributable to interventions that protect children, prevent infection, and treat disease. Identifying subnational regions with the highest burden and mapping associated risk factors can aid in reducing preventable childhood *** We used Bayesian model-based geostatistics and a geolocated dataset comprising 15 072 746 children younger than 5 years from 466 surveys in 94 LMICs, in combination with findings of the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2017, to estimate posterior distributions of diarrhoea prevalence, incidence, and mortality from 2000 to 2017. From these data, we estimated the burden of diarrhoea at varying subnational levels (termed units) by spatially aggregating draws, and we investigated the drivers of subnational patterns by creating aggregated risk factor *** The greatest declines in diarrhoeal mortality were seen in south and southeast Asia and South America, where 54·0% (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 38·1-65·8), 17·4% (7·7-28·4), and 59·5% (34·2-86·9) of units, respectively, recorded decreases in deaths from diarrhoea greater than 10%. Although children in much of Africa remain at high risk of death due to diarrhoea, regions with the most deaths were outside Africa, with the highest mortality units located in Pakistan. Indonesia showed the greatest within-country geographical inequality; some regions had mortality rates nearly four times the average country rate. Reductions in mortality were correlated to improvements in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) or reductions in child growth failure (CGF). Automating crop disease diagnosis is an important task, particularly for regions with few experts. Most current methods detect disease by analyzing leaf images, particularly for diseases that manifest on the aerial part of the plant. To train a good classifier one requires a huge image dataset and the appropriate methods to extract relevant features from the images that represent the disease unambiguously. Image data also tends to be prone to effects of occlusion that make consistent analysis of the data hard. In this paper we take a look at the use of spectral data collected from leaves of a plant. We analyse spectral data from visibly diseased parts of a leaf as well as parts that are visibly healthy. We employ prototype based classification methods and standard classification models in a three-class classification problem configuration. Results presented show significant improvement in performance when spectral data is used and the possibility of early detection of disease before the crops become visibly symptomatic, which for practical reasons is very important.
