This paper investigates the advancement of magnetic induction-based heart and respiration rate sensing by actively controlling the coil current. This is realized through the implementation of a current-starved inverter mechanism. Experiments show a notable level of accuracy of the proposed circuit in measuring heart and respiration activity when compared to a reference sensor. The direct manipulation of current levels was found to have a direct impact on the signal strength. Incrementing the overall current within the proposed circuit from 60 mA to 100 mA resulted in an augmentation of the output amplitude of the heart rate signal from 8.5 mV to 27 mV, accompanied by a marginal enhancement in beat-to-beat interval accuracy. Moreover, the proposed sensor demonstrates noteworthy precision in monitoring the respiratory rate when compared with the reference sensor under different current values, exhibiting the same trend in signal strength. This finding offers valuable insight for the development of future power-optimized magnetic induction sensors with enhanced robustness. © 2024 IEEE.

The integration of drone technology with 5G networks presents novel opportunities for enhancing wireless communication systems. This paper explores the application of beamforming optimization techniques in dynamic environments, specifically focusing on moving drones in a simulated environment based on the DeepMIMO O1 scenario. By leveraging the unique properties of the O1 drone setup of DeepMIMO simulation environment, which simulates realistic urban mobility patterns at millimeter-wave (mmWave) frequencies, we propose a novel beamforming algorithm designed to optimize the signal quality and stability in highly mobile aerial networks. Key performance metrics used in this study include Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR), battery consumption, and power consumption of both the drones and the base station. Our findings indicate that the adaptive beamforming algorithm not only enhances the SNR and reduces power consumption but also optimizes battery usage compared to conventional beamforming methods. This study enhances the understanding of mmWave beamforming dynamics in aerial scenarios but also lays the groundwork for future advancements in drone-based communication networks.

TlBa2Ca2Cu3DyxO8+δ superconductor samples (x = 0–0.075) were prepared by a two-step solid-state reaction technique to investigate the impact of Dy2O3 (dysprosium sesquioxide) addition on the formation and the transport properties of the Tl-1223 phase. The samples were analyzed using X-ray powder diffraction, ac susceptibility, and high-harmonics temperature dependence to study the effects of Dy2O3 on phase formation, superconducting transition temperature Tc, and the intergrain critical current density Jc. XRD results revealed that the prepared samples are nearly single-phases Tl-1223 with a tetragonal structure. Tc is not suppressed as Dy content increased, while Jc increased up to x = 0.025, then decreased with a further increase in x. Our findings show that the presence of dysprosium sesquioxide promotes the high-Tc phase and enhances the transport critical current densities. © I. R. Metskhvarishvili, Melita Menelaou, T. E. Definitions are a fundamental building block in lexicography, linguistics and computational semantics. In NLP, they have been used for retrofitting word embeddings or augmenting contextual representations in language models. However, lexical resources containing definitions exhibit a wide range of properties, which has implications in the behaviour of models trained and evaluated on them. In this paper, we introduce 3D-EX, a dataset that aims to fill this gap by combining well-known English resources into one centralized knowledge repository in the form of triples. 3D-EX is a unified evaluation framework with carefully pre-computed train/validation/test splits to prevent memorization. In the realm of 5G networking, the optimization of user allocation through network slicing stands as a critical challenge, with the potential to substantially enhance the Quality of Service (QoS). This study examines three AI-based allocation algorithms—Simulated Annealing, which begins with a Randomized algorithm, Greedy, and Local Search with Hill Climbing—to efficiently distribute network resources. Next, we compare the algorithms for different user densities to understand how well each one can handle the situation at hand in terms of balance in allocation, consumption (time and memory) and complexity. Our research advances beyond conventional allocation techniques by offering different solutions for different needs thus improving QoS through the alignment of user demands with network capacity.

In the landscape of 5G networks, efficient resource allocation stands as a critical factor in meeting the diverse demands of applications and users. This paper delves into optimizing resource allocation within 5G Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) networks by leveraging Downlink/Uplink Decoupling (DUDe) techniques. MIMO technology, enabling the simultaneous transmission of multiple data streams, holds promise for boosting spectral efficiency. However, accommodating the dynamic and diverse user requirements poses a significant challenge in resource allocation. By employing advanced DUDe techniques, this research aims to dynamically allocate resources in 5G MIMO networks, seeking to enhance throughput, minimize latency, and optimize user satisfaction. Through simulation-based analysis, this paper highlights the efficacy of the proposed approach in significantly improving network performance and resource utilization.

This research explores a new finite element model for the free vibration analysis of bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) beams. The model is based on an efficient higher-order shear deformation beam theory that incorporates a trigonometric warping function for both transverse shear deformation and stress to guarantee traction-free boundary conditions without the necessity of shear correction factors. The proposed two-node beam element has three degrees of freedom per node, and the inter-element continuity is retained using both C1 and C0 continuities for kinematics variables. In addition, the mechanical properties of the (BDFG) beam vary gradually and smoothly in both the in-plane and out-of-plane beam’s directions according to an exponential power-law distribution. The highly elevated performance of the developed model is shown by comparing it to conceptual frameworks and solution procedures. Detailed numerical investigations are also conducted to examine the impact of boundary conditions, the bi-directional gradient indices, and the slenderness ratio on the free vibration response of BDFG beams. The suggested finite element beam model is an excellent potential tool for the design and the mechanical behavior estimation of BDFG structures. © 2024 Techno-Press, Ltd.

The advent of 5G technology has brought unprecedented advancements in wireless communication, promising higher data rates and improved user experiences. However, the implementation of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques in 5G networks has significantly increased power consumption, posing a challenge to sustainability and operational costs. This study conducts a comparative analysis of energy efficiency in 5G MIMO networks, specifically between Downlink Uplink Coupling (DUCo) and Downlink Uplink Decoupling (DUDe) techniques. By examining the remaining power in the Base Stations (BSs) of the implemented Heterogeneous Network (HetNet), this analysis evaluates the potential of DUDe over DUCo in managing power consumption. The findings of this study aim to assist network operators, researchers, and policymakers in developing greener and more sustainable 5G infrastructures for a cleaner, energy-efficient future.

In recent years, there has been significant research focusing on addressing security concerns in single-modal person re-identification (ReID) systems that are based on RGB images. However, the safety of cross-modality scenarios, which are more commonly encountered in practical applications involving images captured by infrared cameras, has not received adequate attention. The main challenge in cross-modality ReID lies in effectively dealing with visual differences between different modalities. For instance, infrared images are typically grayscale, unlike visible images that contain color information. Existing attack methods have primarily focused on the characteristics of the visible image modality, overlooking the features of other modalities and the variations in data distribution among different modalities. This oversight can potentially undermine the effectiveness of these methods in image retrieval across diverse modalities. This study represents the first exploration into the security of cross-modality ReID models and proposes a universal perturbation attack specifically designed for cross-modality ReID. This attack optimizes perturbations by leveraging gradients from diverse modality data, thereby disrupting the discriminator and reinforcing the differences between modalities. We conducted experiments on three widely used cross-modality datasets, namely RegDB, SYSU, and LLCM. The results not only demonstrate the effectiveness of our method but also provide insights for future improvements in the robustness of cross-modality ReID systems.
