In the landscape of 5G networks, efficient resource allocation stands as a critical factor in meeting the diverse demands of applications and users. This paper delves into optimizing resource allocation within 5G Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) networks by leveraging Downlink/Uplink Decoupling (DUDe) techniques. MIMO technology, enabling the simultaneous transmission of multiple data streams, holds promise for boosting spectral efficiency. However, accommodating the dynamic and diverse user requirements poses a significant challenge in resource allocation. By employing advanced DUDe techniques, this research aims to dynamically allocate resources in 5G MIMO networks, seeking to enhance throughput, minimize latency, and optimize user satisfaction. Through simulation-based analysis, this paper highlights the efficacy of the proposed approach in significantly improving network performance and resource utilization.

This research explores a new finite element model for the free vibration analysis of bi-directional functionally graded (BDFG) beams. The model is based on an efficient higher-order shear deformation beam theory that incorporates a trigonometric warping function for both transverse shear deformation and stress to guarantee traction-free boundary conditions without the necessity of shear correction factors. The proposed two-node beam element has three degrees of freedom per node, and the inter-element continuity is retained using both C1 and C0 continuities for kinematics variables. In addition, the mechanical properties of the (BDFG) beam vary gradually and smoothly in both the in-plane and out-of-plane beam’s directions according to an exponential power-law distribution. The highly elevated performance of the developed model is shown by comparing it to conceptual frameworks and solution procedures. Detailed numerical investigations are also conducted to examine the impact of boundary conditions, the bi-directional gradient indices, and the slenderness ratio on the free vibration response of BDFG beams. The suggested finite element beam model is an excellent potential tool for the design and the mechanical behavior estimation of BDFG structures. © 2024 Techno-Press, Ltd.

The advent of 5G technology has brought unprecedented advancements in wireless communication, promising higher data rates and improved user experiences. However, the implementation of Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques in 5G networks has significantly increased power consumption, posing a challenge to sustainability and operational costs. This study conducts a comparative analysis of energy efficiency in 5G MIMO networks, specifically between Downlink Uplink Coupling (DUCo) and Downlink Uplink Decoupling (DUDe) techniques. By examining the remaining power in the Base Stations (BSs) of the implemented Heterogeneous Network (HetNet), this analysis evaluates the potential of DUDe over DUCo in managing power consumption. The findings of this study aim to assist network operators, researchers, and policymakers in developing greener and more sustainable 5G infrastructures for a cleaner, energy-efficient future.

In recent years, there has been significant research focusing on addressing security concerns in single-modal person re-identification (ReID) systems that are based on RGB images. However, the safety of cross-modality scenarios, which are more commonly encountered in practical applications involving images captured by infrared cameras, has not received adequate attention. The main challenge in cross-modality ReID lies in effectively dealing with visual differences between different modalities. For instance, infrared images are typically grayscale, unlike visible images that contain color information. Existing attack methods have primarily focused on the characteristics of the visible image modality, overlooking the features of other modalities and the variations in data distribution among different modalities. This oversight can potentially undermine the effectiveness of these methods in image retrieval across diverse modalities. This study represents the first exploration into the security of cross-modality ReID models and proposes a universal perturbation attack specifically designed for cross-modality ReID. This attack optimizes perturbations by leveraging gradients from diverse modality data, thereby disrupting the discriminator and reinforcing the differences between modalities. We conducted experiments on three widely used cross-modality datasets, namely RegDB, SYSU, and LLCM. The results not only demonstrate the effectiveness of our method but also provide insights for future improvements in the robustness of cross-modality ReID systems.

In this paper we evaluate the energy efficiency of Downlink/Uplink Decoupling (DUDe) systems by considering the energy consumption of each Base Station (BS) and the communication overhead between the BSs and User Equipment (UE). Through extensive simulations, the energy efficiency of DUDe systems is evaluated under various scenarios, such as different UE densities, Base Stations (BSs) configurations, and traffic patterns. The simulation results indicate that the proposed DUDe system can achieve significant energy savings compared to traditional centralized 5G systems. The impact of various parameters on energy efficiency is also analyzed, providing guidelines for designing energy-efficient DUDe systems. The paper emphasizes the significance of energy-efficient design in 5G networks, as it can significantly reduce the operational costs and carbon footprint of the network.

In this context, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems have emerged as a key enabler, leveraging advanced antenna arrays to simultaneously serve multiple users with increased spectral efficiency. This paper investigates the dynamic resource allocation problem in a MIMO 5 G environment, where each user possesses distinct bandwidth requirements. The focus is on optimizing user allocation while considering the limited bandwidth and user capacity of base stations. By harnessing the power of deep learning techniques, the proposed solution aims to efficiently manage the allocation of users to base station antennas, thereby maximizing overall network performance while accommodating heterogeneous user demands.

Multiple Ancillary Services Provision by Distributed Energy Resources in Active Distribution Networks

The electric power system is currently experiencing radical changes stemming from the increasing share of renewable energy resources and the consequent decommissioning of conventional power plants based on synchronous generators. Since the principal providers of ancillary services are being phased out, new flexibility and reserve providers are needed. The proliferation of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) in modern distribution networks has opened new possibilities for distribution system operators, enabling them to fill the market gap by harnessing the DER flexibility. This paper introduces a novel centralized MPC-based controller that enables the concurrent provision of voltage support, primary and secondary frequency control by adjusting the setpoints of a heterogeneous group of DERs in active distribution grids. The input-multirate control framework is used to accommodate the distinct timescales and provision requirements of each ancillary service and to ensure that the available resources are properly allocated. Furthermore, an efficient way for incorporating network constraints in the formulation is proposed, where network decomposition is applied to a linear power flow formulation together with network reduction. In addition, different timescale dynamics of the employed DERs and their capability curves are included. The performance of the proposed controller is evaluated on several case studies via dynamic simulations of the IEEE 33-bus system. © 2022, CC BY.

The concept of fluid antennas (FAs) has emerged as a promising solution to enhance the spectral efficiency of wireless networks, achieved by introducing additional degrees of freedom, including reconfigurability and flexibility. In this paper, we investigate the use of index-modulated (IM) transmissions within the framework of FA systems, where an FA position is activated during each transmission interval. This approach is motivated by the common characteristics exhibited by FAs and IM transmissions, which entails the use of a single radio-frequency chain. From this perspective, we derive a closed-form expression for the bit error rate of IM-FAs considering spatial correlation, demonstrating superior performance compared to conventional IM systems. To enhance the performance of IM-FAs in correlated conditions, channel coding techniques are applied. We first analyze a set partition coding (SPC) scheme for IM-FAs to spatially separate the FA ports, and provide a tight performance bound over correlated channels. Furthermore, the spatial SPC scheme is extended to turbo-coded modulation where the performance is analyzed for low and high signal-to-noise ratios. Our results reveal that through the implementation of channel coding techniques designed for FAs and IM transmission, the performance of coded IM-FAs exhibits notable enhancements, particularly in high correlation scenarios. © 2024, CC BY-NC-SA.
