Cross-platform mobile application development frameworks are now widely used among software companies and developers. Despite their time and cost-effectiveness, they still lack the performance and experience of natively developed applications. Many research tools have been proposed to solve this problem by converting a natively developed application from one platform to another. The Trans-Compiler Based Android to iOS Converter (TCAIOSC) was proposed to convert the front-end and back-end code of Android Java applications to iOS applications. Since databases are essential for mobile applications, this paper proposes a new database code conversion model based on trans-compilation and pattern matching. It proposes a model that can be used to support database code conversion between native languages and platforms and applies the proposed model to support the conversion of Firebase Firestore database code from Android (Java) to iOS (Swift) using TCAIOSC. The enhanced tool’s results show high accuracy for the converted database code and a noticeable improvement in the overall conversion results for TCAIOSC. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The rapid urban population growth has intensified the challenges associated with urban and suburban traffic, necessitating effective traffic control and management. The efficient movement of emergency vehicles, particularly ambulances and fire trucks, has emerged as a critical concern. This article presents the Vehicle Dataset, a comprehensive benchmark for object detection, encompassing seven vehicle classes, including cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks, vans, ambulances, and fire trucks. The dataset, includes 29,759 meticulously labeled images obtained from freely available online sources, enables the identification of traffic patterns through deep neural networks. Notably, the dataset emphasizes the facilitation of emergency vehicle movement. The Vehicle Dataset in this study is divided into three subsets, with 25,369 images assigned for training, 2,896 for validation, and 1,494 for testing. Through the utilization of the dataset, object detection algorithms based on YOLO versions 5, 6, and 7 have been trained. Remarkably, YOLO version 7 has yielded outstanding results, achieving a final precision of 85% and a mAP of 85% at an IoU threshold of 0.5. Moreover, at IoU thresholds ranging from 0.5 to 0.9, a mAP of 64% has been attained. The Vehicle Dataset represents significant resource for researchers and practitioners in the transportation and traffic management field. Its inclusion of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks contribute to its unique value. This article presents a detailed exploration of the dataset, underscoring its significance in advancing object detection methodologies. © 2024 IEEE.

Pneumonia is one of the lung infections that can be lethal to people. Pneumonia can be diagnosed by conducting an X-ray scan of the human chest. Even though X-ray scanning is straightforward, the process of identifying pneumonia in X-ray data is still difficult to do even by radiologists. Therefore, a computational algorithm is needed that can be used to analyze X-ray image data. The use of Deep Learning (DL) methods for analyzing images has been proven to work well in various cases, especially X-ray data. Based on previous research, the transformer architecture has the advantage of analyzing with a larger receptive area if compared to Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) which have limited kernel size. In this study, we used the Swin transformer in classifying pneumonia diseases through X-ray images. Through the study conducted, the Swin Transformer Architecture is able to provide a fairly good evaluation metric when compared to the use of convolutional neural networks. The Tiny variant of the Swin Transformer architecture is able to provide evaluation metrics with a precision value of 0.870, recall of 0.995, and F1-Score of 0.928. On the other hand, the use of L2 regularization in stage 3 and stage 4 of the Swin Tiny architecture is able to provide a high recall value of 0.997, but the use of L2 regularization does not provide an increase in precision and F1-Score. In biomedical cases that are only concerned with recall values, the use of L2 regularization on Swin Tiny can provide advantages. © 2023 ACM.

EFX Allocations and Orientations on Bipartite Multi-graphs: A Complete Picture

We consider the fundamental problem of fairly allocating a set of indivisible items among agents having valuations that are represented by a multi-graph – here, agents appear as the vertices and items as the edges between them and each vertex (agent) only values the set of its incident edges (items). The goal is to find a fair, i.e., envy-free up to any item (EFX) allocation. This model has recently been introduced by Christodoulou et al. [2023] where they show that EFX allocations always exist on simple graphs for monotone valuations, i.e., where any two agents can share at most one edge (item). A natural question arises as to what happens when we go beyond simple graphs and study various classes of multi-graphs? We answer the above question affirmatively for the valuation class of bipartite multi-graphs and multi-cycles. Our main positive result is that EFX allocations on bipartite multi-graphs (and multi-cycles) always exist and can be computed in polynomial time for additive valuations. We, therefore, push the frontiers of our understanding of EFX allocations and expand the scenarios where they are known to exist for an arbitrary number of agents. Next, we study EFX orientations (i.e., allocations where every item is allocated to one of its two endpoint agents) and give a complete picture of when they exist for bipartite multi-graphs dependent on two parameters—the number of edges shared between any two agents and the diameter of the graph. Finally, we prove that it is NP-complete to determine whether a given fair division instance on a bipartite multi-graph admits an EFX orientation. © 2024, CC BY.

Code review is considered a key process in the software industry for minimizing bugs and improving code quality. Inspection of review process effectiveness and continuous improvement can boost development productivity. Such inspection is a time-consuming and human-bias-prone task. We propose a semi-supervised learning-based system ReviewRanker which is aimed at assigning each code review a confidence score which is expected to resonate with the quality of the review. Our proposed method is trained based on simple and well-defined labels provided by developers. The labeling task requires little to no effort from the developers and has an indirect relation to the end goal (assignment of review confidence score). ReviewRanker is expected to improve industry-wide code review quality inspection by reducing human bias and the effort required for such a task. The system has the potential of minimizing the back-and-forth cycle existing in the development and review process. This article presents an onboard perception-assisted high-fidelity simulation framework for autonomous planetary soft-landing, enabling visual information processing tightly integrated with advanced onboard guidance system in a realistic simulation environments. Utilizing the open source Unity game engine, a physics-based simulation toolbox integrated with the Robotic Operating System (ROS2), we effectively emulate the motion of spacecraft approaching planetary terrain. The simulation environment features a realistic 3D terrain model and a lander spacecraft equipped with onboard camera to effectively capture detailed local terrain images. The simulation engine accurately captures the spacecraft’s 6-degrees of freedom motion, seamlessly integrating space craft orientation with the associated camera feed while incorporating various illumination conditions using a light source representing the Sun. To demonstrate the efficacy of the framework, we implement a recently developed attitude-constrained minimum jerk guidance algorithm to emulate spacecraft motion. Concurrently, the visual feed from the onboard RGB camera is processed through a gradient extraction-based perception system, providing the visual odometer. This system identifies provably safe landing sites, effectively avoiding potential risks of landing on uneven terrain. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. This work investigates the performance of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) in a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided Internet of Things (IoT) communications under imperfect channel state information (CSI). We formulate a multiobjective optimization problem (MOOP) to design a transmit precoding vector (TPV) at the base station (BS) and phase shift matrix (PSM) at the RIS that jointly maximizes energy efficiency (EE) and harvested power (HP) under the norm-bounded CSI error model. Due to the conflicting objective functions and nonconvex nature of the above optimization problem, the MOOP is simplified using the ϵ-constraint method and subsequently adopting advanced optimization tools, such as the Dinkelbach method, S-procedure, general sign-definiteness, semidefinite programming and convex-concave procedure. Thereafter, we propose an alternating optimization-based algorithm which determines optimal TPV and PSM iteratively that jointly maximizes the EE and HP of the considered system. Through numerical simulations, we validate the robustness, optimality, convergence, accuracy, and effectiveness of our proposed algorithm. Furthermore, we assess the impact of several key parameters, such as the number of RIS elements, available transmit power at BS, and the minimum HP on the performance of the considered system. © 2014 IEEE.

Buildings’ energy efficiency is a widely researched topic, which is rapidly gaining popularity due to rising environmental concerns and the need for energy independence. In Northern Europe heating energy alone accounts for up to 70% of the total building energy consumption. Industry 4.0 technologies such as IoT, big data, cloud computing and machine learning, along with the creation of predictive and proactive digital twins, can help to reduce this number. However, buildings’ thermal dynamics is a very complex process that depends on many variables. As a result, commonly used physics-based white box models are time-consuming and require vast expertise. On the contrary, black box forecasting models, which rely primarily on building energy consumption data, lack fundamental insights and hinder re-use. In this study we device an architecture to facilitate grey box modeling of building’s thermal dynamics while integrating real time IoT data with 3D representation of buildings. The architecture is validated in a case study creating a digital twin platform that enables users to define the thermal dynamics of buildings based on physical laws and real data, thus facilitating informed decision making for the best heating energy optimization strategy. Also, the created user interface enables stakeholders such as facility managers, energy providers or governing bodies to analyze, compare and evaluate buildings’ thermal dynamics without extensive expertise or time resources. © 2024, CC BY.

Explainable Hybrid Model for Presaging Tumor Stage Classification with Survival Survey

Tumor stage classification with a survival survey during detection time is the most crucial part of cancer treatment. The survivability period is directly associated with the early detection of the stage. This study developed a hybrid model to accurately classify the tumor (T) stages with the survivability analysis. The study aims to provide an explainable Artificial Intelligence framework (such as SHAP, and SHAPASH), through which the trustability and interpretability of the proposed model can increase. Along with the XAI, this hybrid approach uses two statistical models, ANOVA and LASSO with the standard TNM (tumor, node, metastasis) method for the T-stage classification. Afterward, the survivability analysis for each T stage is shown by the Kaplan–Meier (KM) method, proportion hazard ratio (Cox). Where KM is used to represent the survivability of individual tumor stages in months and the Cox regression shows the risk factors of the events. Initially, the proposed model was examined on a full dataset that contained malignant and benign data for evaluating the performance of the model, therefore stage classification for T1, T2, and T3 performs for malignant data. The K-fold and repeated-stratified K-fold cross-validation are used to measure the accuracy of the whole dataset for lung and breast cancer. For lung cancer, maximum accuracy was attained by MLP–97.64 in K-fold cross-validation. In breast cancer maximum accuracy achieved by GPC-99.57 in repeated-stratified K-fold cross validation. The results of both datasets are compared with the state-of-the-art models. The study contributed by representing the significance of individual features for tumor staging using the advanced approach of XAI, the SHAPASH interface. The accuracy of the T1, T2, and T3 stages based on malignant data was demonstrated with various classifier models with cross-validation.
