In this paper, an efficient resource allocation scheme-based nonlinear energy harvesting (EH) Timeslot switching (TS) for single-input-single-output (SISO) SWIPT systems-(ERAS-NETS) is presented. The energy saturation characteristic is considered in the EH model where point-to-point (P2P) single-input single-output (P2P-SISO) SWIPT system is studied. Harvesting energy is based on Timeslot switching (TS) aiming at optimizing the average data rate where the TS ratio is a binary value (0 or 1). Hence, the problem is a nonconvex optimization problem because of the binary factor of the TS ratio. The optimization problem is solved using the Lagrange dual theorem that states that the optimal values of the Primal (P) and Dual (D) linear problem are the same if either solution is a basic feasible solution. Accordingly, the derivation of the optimal solution helps receiver to switch either to EH or information decoding (ID) based on the SNR value. Hence, the receiver will switch to EH in the districts having medium values of SNR, otherwise, the receiver will switch to ID in districts having SNR less than 5 dB or more than 25 dB. Different network performance metrics were considered in evaluating the proposed ERAS-NETS scheme in comparison with traditional state-in-the-art TS resource allocation schemes such as transmission power, distance between source and destination, pathloss exponent, and minimum required harvested energy. Simulations showed that ERAS-NETS improves energy efficiency with respect to different transmission power by 20%, 10%, and 3 % for high SNR, medium SNR, and low SNR districts, respectively. Improvement with respect to average energy efficiency versus other system performance metrics has also been noted for the proposed scheme.

This paper proposes a data-driven control (DDC) strategy for nonlinear automated vehicles, employing a multidescription coding (MDC) mechanism based on scalar quantization to address the challenges of data dropouts and limited bandwidth in networked communication environments. The developed MDC-based communication protocol enhances system robustness by reducing the probability of data dropout. It achieves this by transmitting multiple descriptions of source data through diverse channels, incorporating quantization and index reassignment to efficiently alleviate bandwidth constraints. Based on the reconstructed real-time data, a novel data-driven controller and a parameter estimation algorithm are designed, offering adaptability to varying driving conditions and rapid response in dynamic environments. A numerical simulation showcases the potential of the proposed approach as a reliable and efficient solution for the speed problem in nonlinear automated vehicles with challenging communication environments.

The survivable mapping problem in an IP-over-WDM network with a logical graph and physical graph is the problem of finding a mapping of a logical network in a physical layer so that any failure in physical topology does not break the logical topology’s connection. Determining whether a survivable mapping against failure exists is an NP-complete problem, and therefore many heuristic algorithms have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, a heuristic mapping design strategy is proposed to enable the lightpaths to more efficiently endure a node failure. We individually consider the logical topology by building a Hamiltonian cycle and then deal with the mapping problem for disjoint physical paths. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can provide efficient survivable mapping in IP-over-WDM networks. The simulation shows that the survivability of previous methods (SNF and SMART-Node) is around 60–80%, but our proposed algorithm can build survivable mapping in all kinds of situations. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.

Future autonomous ships will need several redundant positioning systems to navigate reliably. Global Navigation Satellite Systems are highly accurate but they are susceptible to disruptions and intentional jamming. Maritime radars have long range and are robust against bad weather and darkness, but the use for ownship motion estimation has received relatively little attention in the research field. In this work, we present a radar odometry estimation method inspired by advances in visual odometry and simultaneous localization and mapping. The method works on raw radar data in a coastal environment and combines the Kanade-Lucas-Tomashi tracker with a factor graph back-end. We test it on data from a large ship with a maritime radar with a range of 19 km. We find that it is robust with only a small drift and no erroneous jumps in the estimate.

The upcoming IEEE 802.11be standard, termed WiFi 7, introduces multi-link operation (MLO), enabling devices to establish multiple simultaneous connections utilizing different frequencies and channels. While MLO has the potential to boost network throughput, optimizing channel allocation in WiFi 7 networks introduces many challenges. In this paper, we propose a best-arm identification-enabled Monte Carlo tree search (BAI-MCTS) algorithm for efficient channel allocation in WiFi 7 networks. Specifically, we first employ an efficient mechanism to calculate the network throughput by capturing the essential features of the CSMA protocol. We then formulate this channel allocation problem as a multi-armed bandit (MAB) problem. However, solving this MAB problem induces high sample complexity due to the large-arm space. To overcome this challenge, we introduce BAI-MCTS by combining the BAI and MCTS techniques. Notably, BAI-MCTS has a fast convergence rate and low sample complexity. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the baseline algorithms in terms of the convergence rate, which is about 42.40% faster than the UCT algorithm when reaching 95% of the optimal value. © 2025 IEEE.

All universities are bound by different policies to set guidelines as to how and in what capacity the universities need to operate. These policies could be introduced by the respective universities or by a higher governing body such as the university Grants Commission (UGC). This research was conducted with the expectation of evaluating two policies prepared by the UGC Standing Committee on Computing and introduced through the Commission Circular No.: 02/2013. These two policies, namely policy on passwords and policy on computing resources, have been prepared to regularise the passwords used by the university staff members and govern the use of computing resources in universities. The main objective of this research was to see to what extent the universities have implemented these policies, which were introduced in 2013. The study was conducted among staff members representing all national universities in Sri Lanka. The research consisted of two parts. The first stage evaluated the knowledge of university staff members and IT staff members regarding the above two policies. An online questionnaire was distributed among 5150 university academic and non-academic staff members of all local universities. Eight hundred fifty responses were received for this questionnaire which was beyond the expected sample size. The second questionnaire was sent to each university's IT directors and other IT officers in a similar capacity. These surveys revealed that many staff members were not aware of these policies. 53.53% of staff members mentioned that they were unsure whether their own university had an IT policy. As the second stage of this research, the policy on passwords was cross-referenced with NIST 2020 guidelines for passwords to see how well the UGC policies are on par with the new guidelines. This revealed that the UGC policy on passwords needs to be updated according to the evolved techniques. The research makes some recommendations to improve the effectiveness of these

The multi-hopping mechanism features in the wireless network environment, in which all nodes contain the information of link and connectivity in any infrastructure less manner. When mobile devices either jump from their original network or change their location without describing any fashion, it is named mobile ad hoc network MANET. To ensure the up to date information related to the location and to provide the routing traffic of the node, numerous protocols have been used to remain efficient in achieving this for instance, AODV, DSR, DSDV etc. While we, the peer-to-peer networking, have challenges in many places, security is something that warrants attention more than any other things. The signal corruption hampers data transmission in bedwire networks when the attacks take place. This kind of activity can touch anyone including the layers lying above the physical and below the network layer. In the current discussion we developed, proposition of diversified, efficient and secure AI-based X-AODV routing protocol. We have investigated our proposed protocol against the recent modified two protocols which are SAODV and ARAN. The outcome of simulation reveals that our proposed routing protocol takes place in successfully performing of attack detection and is also the best when it comes to providing security and performance. The Simulation outcomes exhibit the Networks' performance improvement. © 2024 IEEE.

Promoting energy efficiency among small and medium-sized enterprises is a crucial aspect of achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7. By providing SMEs tools and resources they need to improve their energy efficiency, they can be helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, save energy and money, and move towards a more sustainable future for all. The objective of this research is to tackle the economic, informational, and organizational challenges that hinder the adoption of energy efficiency measures in small and medium-sized enterprises. To achieve this, an integrative methodology that assesses the potential energy savings in SMEs has been developed and implemented for a case study in Romania. The methodology is based on Monitoring & Targeting tool, which aims to deliver a series of energy saving and CO2 emission reduction targets, based on which a set of specific energy efficiency measures can be designed, considering the specific needs of a company. To further demonstrate the benefits associated with implementing the proposed energy efficiency measures, the methodology also includes an assessment of the economic performance of the required investment. Additionally, the methodology maps out the non-energy benefits associated with the implementation of the proposed actions. This context provides a more comprehensive understanding of the potential benefits of implementing energy efficiency measures in SMEs. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.
