Test-driven code search (TDCS) is an approach to code search and reuse that uses test cases as inputs to form the search query. Together with the test cases that provide more semantics to the search task, keywords taken from class and method names are still required. Therefore, the effectiveness of the approach also relies on how good these keywords are, i.e., how frequently they are chosen by developers to name the desired functions. To help users choose adequate words in their query test cases, visual aids can be used. In this paper we propose thesaurus-based tag clouds to show developers terms that are more frequently used in the code repository to improve their search. Terms are generated by looking up words similar to the initial keywords on a thesaurus. Tag clouds are then formed based on the frequency in which these terms appear in the code base. Our approach was implemented with an English thesaurus as an extension to CodeGenie, a Java- and Eclipse-based TDCS tool. Our evaluation shows that the approach can help improve the number of returned results. We also noticed the visual aid can be especially useful for non-native speakers of the language in which the code repository is written. These users are frequently unaware of the most common terms used to name specific functionality in the code, in the given language.

Software testing is a critical process for achieving product quality. Its importance is more and more recognized, and there is a growing concern in improving the accomplishment of this process. In this context, Knowledge Management emerges as an important supporting tool. However, managing relevant knowledge to reuse is difficult and it requires some means to represent and to associate semantics to a large volume of test information. In order to address this problem, we have developed a Reference Ontology on Software Testing (ROost). ROost is built reusing ontology patterns from the Software Process Ontology Pattern Language (SP-OPL). In this paper, we discuss how ROost was developed, and present a fragment of Roost that concerns with software testing process, its activities, artifacts, and procedures.

In the framework of the Image Foresting Transform (IFT), there is a class of connectivity functions that were vaguely explored, which corresponds to the non-smooth connectivity functions (NSCF). These functions are more adaptive to cope with the problems of field in homogeneity, which are common in MR images of 3 Tesla. In this work, we investigate the NSCF from the standpoint of theoretical and experimental aspects. We formally classify several non-smooth functions according to a proposed diagram representation. Then, we investigate some theoretical properties for some specific regions of the diagram. Our analysis reveals that many NSCFs are, in fact, the result of a sequence of optimizations, each of them involving a maximal set of elements, in a well-structured way. Our experimental results indicate that substantial improvements can be obtained by NSCFs in the 3D segmentation of MR images of 3 Tesla, when compared to smooth connectivity functions.

This paper focuses on the research issues that Cloud Computing imposes on Software Testing. For this purpose, Cloud Testing can be defined as a Software Testing method based on Cloud Computing technology. Software Testing has been an important component within the development process. In order to face the rapid growth of Cloud Computing, Reference Architectures provide a simple and organized environment for applications development. The outage on Cloud Services must be considered an exception not a rule. This research emphasizes the complexity of Cloud Testing, in order to prevent services disruption, as it happened, for example, with the Amazon in April 2011. This research aims to investigate, design, implement, and propose key Software Architectural Drivers for Cloud Testing, focusing on monitoring the quality. Cloud Testing integration may allow monitoring products and services with efficient deliverables. The main advantage that arises from these proposed drivers is the provision of Cloud Testing Reference Architectures to be applied in practice. The main contribution of software architectural drivers is the quantitative monitoring of quality for both end products and services. In this paper we present a sentiment dictionary that aids in identifying subjective phrases from opinionated texts useful for opinion detection approaches in determining opinion of web users from opinionated texts. Web users document their opinion on diverse topics using variety of mediums available in the web. These opinions will be very useful to other web users that assist them to change their perspective or take a few useful decisions. Today, opinions are expressed by web users using multimodal opinion elements like normal phrases, emoticons and short words or sms language. To capture web users opinion with multimodal opinion elements, we need dictionaries that will assist in identifying these multimodal opinion phrases. Dictionaries mentioned in literatures are less useful in identifying multi modal subjective phrases and opinion of web users. We examine a number of dictionaries and propose an effective sentiment dictionary useful in identifying subjective phrases and opinion of web users on products. The result obtained indicates the proposed sentiment dictionary is effective in mining multimodal user opinion. © 2012 ACM.

This paper presents a multi-objective formulation for variable selection in calibration problems. The prediction of protein concentration on wheat is obtained by a linear regression model using variables obtained by a spectrophotometer device. This device measure hundreds of correlated variables related with physicochemical properties and that can be used to estimate the protein concentration. The problem is the selection of a subset informative and uncorrelated variables that help the minimization of prediction error. In this work we propose the use of two objectives in this problem: the prediction error and the number of variables in the model, both related to linear equations system stability. We proposed a multi-objective formulation using two multi-objective algorithms: the NSGA-II and the SPEA-II. Additionally we propose a final decision maker method to choice the final subset of variables from the Pareto front. For the case study is used wheat data obtained by NIR spectrometry where the objective is the determination of a variable subgroup with information about protein concentration. The results of traditional techniques of multivariate calibration as the Successive Projections Algorithm (SPA), Partial Least Square (PLS) and mono-objective genetic algorithm are presents for comparisons. For NIR spectral analysis of protein concentration on wheat, the number of variables selected from 775 spectral variables was reduced for just 10 in the SPEA-II algorithm. The prediction error decreased from 0.2 in the classical methods to 0.09 in proposed approach, a reduction of 45%. The model using variables selected by SPEA-II had better prediction performance than classical algorithms and full-spectrum partial least-squares (PLS).

Usually embodied in real environments, robots are expected to perceive and act in their surrounding world in a human-like fashion [1], through perception, reasoning, planning and decision making processes. Although high computational power is available nowadays, the complexity of real scenes - continuous, partially unknown and usually unpredictable - can not be taken for granted. To actively act in this environment, robots are fully equipped with an enormous amount of sensors, overwhelming them with an immense amount of data that can not fully be processed and that constantly changes across time and space. To overcome this problem, the natural human filter - Attention - could be used as inspiration. This paper proposes an architecture that supports a transfer of domain from visual models to a robotics domain that uses sensors such as range scanners and sonars. Furthermore, it discusses the possibility of using multiple sensors to define multiple features. The experiments were performed in a simulated high fidelity environment and results have shown that the model proposed can account for detecting salient stimuli according to the modeled features. © 2012 IEEE.

Isochronal synchronization is a unique phenomenon in which physically distant oscillators wired together relax into zero-lag synchronous behavior over time. Such behavior is observed in natural processes and, recently, has been considered for promising applications in communication. Towards technological development of devices that explore isochronal sync, stability issues of the phenomenon need to be considered, both in the context of a pair or a network of coupled oscillators. This study concerns such stability issues by using the Lyapunov-Krasovskii theorem to propose a framework to study synchronization stability by using accessible parameters of the network coupling setup. As a result, relations between stability and network parameters are unveiled and the comprehension of roads leading to stability is enhanced. © 2012 IEEE.

The present paper has the goal of studying orbital maneuvers of Rendezvous, that is an orbital transfer where a spacecraft has to change its orbit to meet with another spacecraft that is travelling in another orbit. This transfer will be accomplished by using a multi-impulsive control. A genetic algorithm is used to find the transfers that have minimum fuel consumption.

Many approaches for requirements elicitation have been proposed to help the design of virtual collaborative systems. The design of virtual collaborative systems with collaborative sensemaking presents a challenge due to the needs of interaction of users with the system in order to process, interpret, and share information collaboratively. However, most of the design approaches fail in capturing the users' needs, because they are not designed to capture precisely the main users' activities interactions during the interplay between 'collaboration' and 'information' with sensemaking. Sensemaking determines the way in which people respond to certain events and allows constructing perceptions taking into account their goals, priorities and problems. This paper describes a requirement elicitation method that captures the interactions of potential users in collaborative environments with collaborative sensemaking activities. The method is based on the simulation of activities it was employed in the design of a virtual collaborative system - a collaborative puzzle - in order to illustrate its usage.
