The characteristics of decisions and the evaluation of their outcome are highly complex. In this paper, we first give a short analysis of different types of decisions such as long-term and short-term decisions or dile...

When consuming data from federated domains, it is often necessary to identify the relationships that exist between the data schemas used in each domain. Discovering the exact nature of these relationships is difficult due to data set schema heterogeneity. Prior work has focused on inter-domain class equivalence. However it is not always possible to find an equivalent class in both schemas. For example, when instances are modeled as classes in one domain (e.g. router type) but as the attribute values of a single class in the other domain (e.g. router interface). This paper investigates whether when classifying instances in one data set against a second schema, it may be more useful to use some attribute (or attribute group) other than the original class type, to perform this classification. A machine-learning based classification approach to appropriate attribute selection is presented and its operation is evaluated using two large data-sets available on the web as Linked data. The classification problem is compounded by the less formal semantics of Linked data when compared to full ontologies but this also highlights the strength of our approach to dealing with noisy or under-specified data-sets and schemas. The experimental results show that our attribute selection approach is capable of discovering appropriate mappings for cases where the correspondence is conditioned on one attribute and that information gain provides a suitable scoring function for selection of correspondence patterns to describe these complex attribute-based mappings.

A key challenge facing curators and providers of digital cultural heritage across Europe and Worldwide is to instigate, increase and enhance engagement with cultural archives. To achieve this, a fundamental change in the way cultural resources are experienced and contributed to by communities is required. Furthermore, it is of central importance to create systems which can support the full spectrum of the user community - from professional researchers engaged in answering complex queries, to supporting novice students or members of the public in finding their way through the vast collection of resources. This paper presents CULTURA, a personalisation environment for navigating digitised cultural heritage archives. An initial description of a case study surrounding the 1641 Depositions Archive is followed by an analysis of the results of trials with students in the humanities.

After having been a term of reflection in philosophy as well as psychology for ages, the fascination with human wisdom finally reaches the realms of computerscience. In comparison to the first philosophical definition attempts, that date back to Aristotle (384BC-322BC), the efforts in information science during the late 1980s seem quite recent. Nevertheless have there been astonishing new insights provided by cognitive science since those first formal modelizations were designed - findings that strongly suggest a reconsideration of our current formalization of wisdom in the computerscience domain. We suggest to establish a new, integrated view on the concept of wisdom, using the insights of cognitive sciences. Furthermore, we discuss possible measures that are able to cover at least fundamental properties of wisdom including its vague aspects.

Least association rules are corresponded to the rarity or irregularity relationship among itemset in database. Mining these rules is very difficult and rarely focused since it always involves with infrequent and exceptional cases. In certain medical data, detecting these rules is very critical and most valuable. However, mathematical formulation and evaluation of the new proposed measurement are not really impressive. Therefore, in this paper we applied our novel measurement called Critical Relative Support (CRS) to mine the critical least association rules from medical dataset. We also employed our scalable algorithm called Significant Least Pattern Growth algorithm (SLP-Growth) to mine the respective association rules. Experiment with two benchmarked medical datasets, Breast Cancer and Cardiac Single Proton Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) Images proves that CRS can be used to detect to the pertinent rules and thus verify its scalability.
We present a language independent approach for conflation that does not depend on predefined rules or prior knowledge of the target language. The proposed unsupervised method is based on an enhancement of the pure n-g...
