A remaining useful life (RUL) prediction algorithm considering temporal uncertainty, individual variability uncertainty, and unmodeled dynamic uncertainty is proposed for hidden degradation process with unmeasurable degradation index. First, the degradation model integrating multiple uncertainties is established. Then, the estimated distribution of degradation index and degradation model parameters are iteratively computed using the nonlinear filter. Finally, based on the real-time multiple uncertainties information, the probability density function (PDF) is adaptively updated, achieving the RUL prediction for hidden degradation process with the influence of multiple uncertainties. © 2024 IEEE.

Script Event Prediction (SEP) aims to forecast the next event in a sequence from a list of candidates. Traditional methods often use pre-trained language models to model event associations but struggle with semantic ambiguity and embedding bias. Semantic ambiguity arises from the multiple meanings of identical words and insufficient consideration of event arguments, while embedding bias results from assigning similar word embeddings to event pairs with similar lexical features, despite their different meanings. To address above issues, we propose a the Semantic and Sentiment Dual-enhanced Generative Model (SSD-GM). SSD-GM leverages two types of script event information to enhance the generative model. Specifically, it employs a GNN-based semantic structure aggregator to integrate the event-centric structure information, thereby mitigating the impact of semantic ambiguity. Furthermore, we find that local sentiment variability effectively reduces biases in event embeddings, while maintaining global sentiment consistency enhances predictive accuracy. As a result, SSD-GM adeptly captures both global and local sentiment of events through its sentiment information awareness mechanism. Extensive experiments on the Multi-Choice Narrative Cloze (MCNC) task demonstrate that our approach achieves better results than other state-of-the-art baselines. © 2025 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Current state-of-the-art image captioning models generate captions in a single language, requiring a combination of multiple language specific models to build a multilingual image captioning system. However, as the number of supported languages increases, it leads to the parameters of the multilingual image captioning system grow linearly. To tackle this issue, we propose a single Compact Interactive TransformEr (CITE) model, which can describe an image in multiple languages simultaneously, making the captioning system more compact. Specifically, based on the standard Transformer model, we share the encoder and decoder backbone parameters and replace the self-attention sub-layer in the decoder with the interactive attention sub-layer. In addition, we extend the traditional monolingual reinforcement learning mechanism to a multilingual version to promote better description generation. Due to the wide use of Chinese and English, we evaluate the performance of our CITE model by simultaneously generating English and Chinese captions. We expand the image captions of the whole MSCOCO dataset and release a COCO-EN-CN dataset. Extensive experiments on the COCO-EN-CN dataset show that our single CITE model with more parameter-efficient can maintain the competitive performance or even better than the monolingual captioning models. © 2023 ACM.

Weed detection is crucial for the healthy growth of crops, yet existing detection models struggle to perform high-accuracy real-time detection of weeds in natural environments on edge computing devices. This paper introduces EMPA-YOLO, a model designed for rapid, accurate, real-time weed detection on low-performance edge computing devices. It incorporates an efficient multi-scale convolutional structure, C3EMSC, and a lightweight, adaptive weight subsampling layer, LAWDS, into YOLOv5s. Additionally, a logical distillation algorithm, AlignSoftTarget, is proposed for knowledge distillation. Validation on a mixed dataset of crops and weeds showed that EMPA-YOLO improved mAP50 by 11.2%, reduced parameter count by 4.8M, decreased computational load by 8.7GFLOPs, and increased inference frame rate by 58% compared to the original YOLOv5s algorithm. When compared to YOLOv3, YOLOv5s, YOLOv6, YOLOv8s, and RT-DETR, inference speed improved by 89.2%, 60.8%, 77.5%, 76.5%, and 94.7%, respectively, with mean accuracy enhancements of 7.3%, 11.2%, 16.7%, 0.9%, and 1.2%. Real-world testing on edge computing devices met real-time detection requirements, proving its efficacy and practicality in weed detection. © 2024 IEEE.

CoT-based Synthesizer: Enhancing LLM Performance through Answer Synthesis

Current inference scaling methods, such as Self-consistency and Best-of-N, have proven effective in improving the accuracy of LLMs on complex reasoning tasks. However, these methods rely heavily on the quality of candidate responses and are unable to produce correct answers when all candidates are incorrect. In this paper, we propose a novel inference scaling strategy, CoT-based Synthesizer, which leverages CoT reasoning to synthesize superior answers by analyzing complementary information from multiple candidate responses, even when all candidate responses are flawed. To enable a lightweight and cost-effective implementation, we introduce an automated data generation pipeline that creates diverse training data. This allows smaller LLMs trained on this data to improve the inference accuracy of larger models, including API-based LLMs. Experimental results across four benchmark datasets with seven policy models demonstrate that our method significantly enhances performance, with gains of 11.8% for Llama3-8B and 10.3% for GPT-4o on the MATH dataset. In recent years, a variety of emergency events have been occurring in buildings in countries. For there are some differences between male and female in movement ability and evacuation behavior, gender has a non-negligible impact on evacuation and decision-making of emergency events. Thus, it is of great practical significance to detect the gender of pedestrians at entrances or exits of buildings in real time to grasp the proportion of different gender people in buildings and to formulate emergency warning or evacuation strategies scientifically. In response to the requirement of rapid emergency response, this paper proposes a pedestrian gender detection method based on a lightweight object detection model YOLOX-Tiny. In addition, considering the inaccurate pedestrian gender detection caused by the change of pedestrian posture and camera angle, the attention mechanism CBAM is introduced to enhance the ability of filtering a large amount of redundant information, obtaining key information and acquiring pedestrian gender characteristic information. Through the experiments of self-made pedestrian gender datasets, the results show that the detection accuracy of the improved model is increased by 1.8%, and the detection speed reaches 251FPS, which can meet both speed and accuracy of pedestrian gender detection in emergencies. © 2024 IEEE.
