The wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of a large number of sensor nodes collaborative to collect and transmit data to the end user. Since the network’s long life is an utmost requirement of WSN. Clustering is one of the most effective ways of prolonging the lifetime of the network. In clustering, a node takes charge of the cluster to coordinate and receive information from the member nodes and transfer it to the sink. With the imbalance of energy dissipation by the sensor node, it may lead to premature failure of the network. Therefore, a robust balanced clustering algorithm can solve this issue in which a worthy candidate will play the cluster head role in each round. This paper proposes an improvement of WSN based on fuzzy logic for clustering. Residual energy, distance from the sink, and density of the nodes in its locality are taken account as the input to feed into fuzzy inference system. Compared results with the other approaches in the literature show the proposed scheme provides the better performance in terms of stability period and protracted lifetime. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Based on the better properties of chaotic maps, the studies of chaotic-based image encryption have received much attentions by researchers in recent years. In this paper, an image encryption algorithm based on logistic map with substitution approach is proposed. With the rapid development of Cloud Computing, how to improve users search experience over encrypted data just like plaintext search has become a challenging task. In this paper, we propose a hierarchical semantic approximate multi-keyword ranked search (HSAMS) scheme over encrypted data. In order to solve the integrity verification of outsourced file in cloud, we based on the concept of regenerating code (RC) to propose a new public auditing scheme with data recovery in this paper. With the advantage of RC, our scheme provides a (k,n) recovery functionality, i.e., only encoded data blocks from any k cloud servers, user can recover the original data files, where n denotes the total number of cloud servers and k ≤ n. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Geo-spatial ontologies can provide a formal description of concepts, relationships, activities, features and rules in GIS domain. However, simply use them only allows to partially solve semantic conflicts, and does not completely solve heterogeneity issues that are caused by themselves. Geo-spatial ontology matching technique can find the correspondences between semantic identical entities, and solve the heterogeneous problem between two geo-spatial ontologies. Be inspired by the successful application of Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) in instance matching domain, in this paper, it is utilized to match the heterogeneous geo-spatial ontologies. To reduce the runtime and memory consumption required by EA, a compact version of it is presented, which does not work on the whole population but a probability representation on it. In addition, a geo-spatial similarity measure is presented to determine the identical geo-spatial entities, and an optimal model is constructed for geo-spatial ontology matching problem. The experimental results show that cEA-based geo-spatial ontology matching technique can efficiently determine the alignment. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

Visualization of ontology alignment and ontology entity is becoming a method to help Solve the problem of semantic heterogeneity. To overcome biomedical ontology’s heterogeneous problem, biomedical ontology matchers are developed to search for bridges of knowledge (or alignment) between heterogeneous biomedical ontologies. Since it is a complex problem, Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) can present a good methodology for matching biomedical ontologies. To improve the efficiency, in this paper, a Compact Evolutionary Simulated Annealing algorithm (CESA) is proposed to match the biomedical ontologies. In particular, CESA utilizes a Probability Vector (PV) to simulate the behavior of population-based EA, and introduces the Simulated Annealing algorithm (SA) as a local search in each generation. The experiment is conducted on the Large Biomed track provided by the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI), and the experimental results show the effectiveness of our proposal. © 2019, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In 2023, La Niña conditions that generally prevailed in the eastern Pacific Ocean from mid-2020 into early 2023 gave way to a strong El Niño by October. Atmospheric concentrations of Earth’s major greenhouse gases—carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide—all increased to record-high levels. The annual global average carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere rose to 419.3±0.1 ppm, which is 50% greater than the pre-industrial level. The growth from 2022 to 2023 was 2.8 ppm, the fourth highest in the record since the 1960s. The combined short-term effects of El Niño and the long-term effects of increasing levels of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere contributed to new records for many essential climate variables reported here. The annual global temperature across land and oceans was the highest in records dating as far back as 1850, with the last seven months (June–December) having each been record warm. Over land, the globally averaged temperature was also record high. Dozens of countries reported record or near-record warmth for the year, including China and continental Europe as a whole (warmest on record), India and Russia (second warmest), and Canada (third warmest). Intense and widespread heatwaves were reported around the world. In Vietnam, an all-time national maximum temperature record of 44.2°C was observed at Tuong Duong on 7 May, surpassing the previous record of 43.4°C at Huong Khe on 20 April 2019. In Brazil, the air temperature reached 44.8°C in Araçuaí in Minas Gerais on 20 November, potentially a new national record and 12.8°C above normal. The effect of rising temperatures was apparent in the cryosphere, where snow cover extent by June 2023 was the smallest in the 56-year record for North America and seventh smallest for the Northern Hemisphere overall. Over the recent years, ontologies are widely used in the biomedical domains. However, biomedical ontology heterogeneity problem hamper the cooperation between intelligent applications based on biomedical ontologies. It is crucial to establish correspondences between the heterogeneous biomedical concepts in different ontologies, which is so-called biomedical ontology matching. Approaches based on Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithm (MOEA), such as NSGA-II, are emerging as a new methodology to solve the ontology matching problem. In this paper, to further improve the quality of biomedical ontology alignments, a hybrid NSGA-II is proposed, which modifies the knee solutions in the Pareto front by using a local search method. Experiment utilizes two biomedical ontology matching tracks provided by Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative (OAEI 2017). The experimental results show that our approach outperforms the participants of OAEI 2017 and NSGA-II based ontology matching technique. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.
