Time-correlation of GSM telephone traffic is important for wireless network performance, but lack of in-depth investigation, especially in large-scale networks. In this paper, we investigate this topic using the data of call detail records (CDR) collected in June 2013 from thousands of GSM base stations. Based on results obtained by the Modified Allan Variance (MAVAR), we confirm the long-range dependency for all base stations, which is consistent with existing results. But through comprehensive chi-square test we believe that the call arrivals can NOT always be modeled as Poisson distribution in short-term in most cases, which disagree with previous conclusions. Our work may be beneficial to energy saving, realistic traffic modelling and performance evaluation of cellular networks.

He growth of the online data provides the user a access to information on the Internet but also creates the challenges to obtain the valuable knowledge. In this paper we focus on news text classification, which is meaningful for information provider to organize and display the news but also for the users to reach the valuable information easily. A hierarchy method based on LDA and SVM is proposed to accomplish this task and several experiments are conducted to evaluate our method. The results show that our method is promising in text classification problems.

Current smartphones generally cannot continuously authenticate users during runtime. This poses severe security and privacy threats: A malicious user can manipulate the phone if bypassing the screen lock. To solve this problem, our work adopts a continuous and passive authentication mechanism based on a user's touch operations on the touchscreen. Such a mechanism is suitable for smartphones, as it requires no extra hardware or intrusive user interface. We study how to model multiple types of touch data and perform continuous authentication accordingly. As a first attempt, we also investigate the fundamentals of touch operations as biometrics by justifying their distinctiveness and permanence. A one-month experiment is conducted involving over 30 users. Our experiment results verify that touch biometrics can serve as a promising method for continuous and passive authentication.

In order to further improve the velocity and the utilization of information contained in samples,an improved version of the Factor Analysis Algorithm(FAA) in factor spaces is presented in this *** primary algorithm is considered from the whole classes during the selection of the next classified factor,by which a smaller decision domain is generated than that generated by considering from each class, and the deletion of the decision domain is critical in decreasing calculation and increasing the velocity of the ***,based on inheriting the merits of the initial algorithm, the pushing way by each column is changed into that by each class during the selection of the next classified *** change not only decreases the calculation, but also improves the utilization of the sample *** testing results also indicate that the improvement is significant and the testing accuracy rate and velocity are both better than the primary algorithm.

Misclassification minimization is an important and interesting topic in classification problem. Obviously, exploring the solution for this topic will benefit to many real life problems, such as credit card clients classification. This paper focuses on misclassification minimization based on multiple criteria linear programming (MCLP), proposing two different schemes to minimize the number of misclassified points in original MCLP. Especially, the complementarity is used to construct the first scheme and linear approximation technique is applied to solve it. Furthermore, successive linearization algorithm (SLA) is employed to achieve minimization the second scheme. Finally, numerical experiment tests the effect of this idea.

labeled data, in real world, is quite scarce compared with unlabeled data. Manual annotation is usually expensive and inefficient. Active learning paradigm is used to handle this problem by identifying the most informative instances to annotate. In this paper, we proposed a new active learning algorithm based on nonparallel support vector machine. Numeric experiment shows the effective performance of the proposed method compared with classical active learning based on support vector machine.

Recently, storage systems have observed a great leap in performance, reliability, endurance, and cost, due to the advance in non-volatile memory technologies, such as NAND flash memory. However, although delivering better performance, shock resistance, and energy efficiency than mechanical hard disks, NAND flash memory comes with unique characteristics and operational constraints, and cannot be directly used as an ideal block device. In particular, to address the notorious write-once property, garbage collection is necessary to clean the outdated data on flash memory. However, garbage collection is very time-consuming and often becomes the performance bottleneck of flash memory. Moreover, because flash memory cells endure very limited writes (as compared to mechanical hard disks) before they are worn out, the wear-leveling design is also indispensable to equalize the use of flash memory space and to prolong the flash memory lifetime. In response, this paper surveys state-of-the-art garbage collection and wear-leveling designs, so as to assist the design of flash memory management in various application scenarios. The future development trends of flash memory, such as the widespread adoption of higher-level flash memory and the emerging of three-dimensional (3D) flash memory architectures, are also discussed.

EDITOR'S SUMMARY Since the 1990s massive open online courses (MOOCs) have offered web-based learning on a large scale and with open access. The leading MOOC providers in 2014 – Udemy, Coursera and edX – vary in detail but share the goal of facilitating learning for unlimited audiences at no cost or minimal charge, overcoming socioeconomic hurdles and opening education to all. The potential is strong, and data shows promising registration figures from India and economically developing countries. Yet MOOCs fall short of their goal of widespread and readily accessed education, impeded by technology challenges, lack of basic education and predominance of English as the language of instruction. Maintaining a high standard of educational quality is challenging, and attrition rates are very high. Those in library and information science can facilitate learning through MOOCs and also benefit by using the platform to build awareness of the professional field.
