With the rapid advancements in the natural language processing (NLP) domain in recent years, the emergence of backdoor attacks presents substantial threats to deep neural network models. However, prior research has often overlooked the influence of the poisoning rate. This paper aims to address this gap by prioritizing the reduction of poisoned samples while still attaining a comparable Attack Success Rate (ASR) in the context of text backdoor attacks. Our primary focus revolves around introducing an efficient strategy for trigger word insertion, encompassing both trigger word optimization and poisoned sample selection. To achieve our objectives, extensive experiments were conducted across diverse datasets and models, showcasing the significant enhancements brought forth by our proposed methodology in the realm of text classification tasks. Remarkable outcomes include an ASR surpassing 90%, utilizing a mere 10 poisoned samples in the dirty-label setting, and delivering compelling performance with only 1.5% of the training data in the clean-label setting. © 2023 IEEE.

The proliferation of malicious deepfake applications has ignited substantial public apprehension, casting a shadow of doubt upon the integrity of digital media. Despite the development of proficient deepfake detection mechanisms, they persistently demonstrate pronounced vulnerability to an array of attacks. It is noteworthy that the pre-existing repertoire of attacks predominantly comprises adversarial example attack, predominantly manifesting during the testing phase. In the present study, we introduce a pioneering paradigm denominated as "Bad-Deepfake,"which represents a novel foray into the realm of backdoor attacks levied against deepfake detectors. Our approach hinges upon the strategic manipulation of a delimited subset of the training data, enabling us to wield disproportionate influence over the operational characteristics of a trained model. This manipulation leverages inherent frailties inherent to deepfake detectors, affording us the capacity to engineer triggers and judiciously select the most efficacious samples for the construction of the poisoned set. Through the synergistic amalgamation of these sophisticated techniques, we achieve an remarkable performance - a 100% attack success rate (ASR) against extensively employed deepfake detectors. © 2023 IEEE.

Memory disaggregation, facilitated by Smart Network Interface Cards (SmartNICs), has emerged as a cost-effective approach for sharing memory resources in data centers. However, current SoC-based SmartNICs face several challenges for supporting near-data processing (NDP) in disaggregated memory (DM) systems effectively, such as inefficient resource allocation for SmartNICs employed in NDP, and the lack of collaboration between SmartNICs on data nodes and CPUs on compute nodes. To address these issues, we propose TIGA, an efficient NDP framework for SmartNICs-based disaggregated memory systems. We propose an adaptive resource allocator to fully utilize the SoC cores among NDP engines automatically, and a SmartNIC-CPU cooperative computing mechanism to schedule NDP tasks among CPUs and SmartNICs. We prototype TIGA with FPGAs and evaluate it with several typical workloads. Experimental results show that TIGA significantly improves the efficiency of NDP tasks in DM systems compared with state-of-the-art SmartNIC-based co-processing schemes. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Recent development of large language models (LLMs) for code like CodeX and CodeT5+ shows promise in achieving code intelligence. Their ability of synthesizing program targeting a pre-defined algorithmic coding task has been intensively tested and verified on datasets including HumanEval and MBPP. Yet, evaluation of these LLMs from more perspectives (than just program synthesis) is also anticipated, considering their broad scope of applications. In this paper, we explore their ability of automatic test cases generation. We show intriguing observations and reveal how the quality of their generated test cases can be improved. Following recent work which uses generated test cases to enhance program synthesis, we further leverage our findings in improving the quality of the synthesized programs and show +11.77% and +4.22% higher code pass rates on HumanEval+ comparing with the GPT-3.5-turbo baseline and the recent state-of-the-art, respectively. Temporal knowledge graph (TKG) extrapolation aims to predict future unknown events (facts) based on historical information, and has attracted considerable attention due to its great practical significance. Accurate representations (embeddings) of entities and relations form the basis of TKG extrapolation. Recent work has been devoted to improving the rationality of entity representations. However, on the one hand, ignoring relation modeling results in incomplete relation representations;therefore, some approaches aggregate only immediately adjacent entities of relations, but this can lead to the "message islands"problem of relation modeling. On the other hand, ignoring the association constraints between relations and entities can make the embeddings of both relations and entities prone to overfitting. To address the abovementioned challenges, we propose an advanced method, namely, RETIA. For the former issue, we generate twin hyperrelation subgraphs for each historical subgraph and then aggregate both the adjacent entities and relations in the hyperrelation subgraphs through a graph convolutional network (GCN). About the latter concern, we propose a twin-interact module (TIM), which provides communication channels for relation aggregation and entity aggregation during the evolution of the historical sequence. Experiments conducted on five public datasets show that RETIA has made great improvements across several evaluation metrics. Multimodal emotion recognition leverages complementary information across modalities to gain performance. However, we cannot guarantee that the data of all modalities are always present in practice. In the studies to predict the missing data across modalities, the inherent difference between heterogeneous modalities, namely the modality gap, presents a challenge. To address this, we propose to use invariant features for a missing modality imagination network (IF-MMIN) which includes two novel mechanisms: 1) an invariant feature learning strategy that is based on the central moment discrepancy (CMD) distance under the full-modality scenario;2) an invariant feature based imagination module (IF-IM) to alleviate the modality gap during the missing modalities prediction, thus improving the robustness of multimodal joint representation. Comprehensive experiments on the benchmark dataset IEMOCAP demonstrate that the proposed model outperforms all baselines and invariantly improves the overall emotion recognition performance under uncertain missing-modality conditions. This paper explores the potential of machine learning in predicting Basal Area Increment (BAI) for the species Abies spectabilis, a commonly used metric for measuring tree growth. Machine learning algorithms are used to analyze environmental factors, biotic responses, growth, and their interactions to obtain accurate predictions of BAI under different climatic scenarios. The study aims to identify vulnerable tree at risk of dieback due to changes in climate or other environmental factors. The methodology includes data acquisition, preprocessing, feature selection, model development, and evaluation. The results reported in the study show M5’ performs better in predicting BAI than other machine learning models. The study’s findings can help in forest management and conservation decisions, such as selective harvesting, reforestation, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity conservation. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
