One way to save time and resources in the human recruitment and hiring process is to post open job positions on the Internet, but the overload of applications creates challenges for hiring managers and companies to select an adequate candidate. One of the solutions is to apply intelligent tools such as Deep Learning and recommender system algorithms to speed up the hiring process and identify the right candidates. In this paper, we propose a two-fold algorithmic approach to 1) building an RNN classifier for resume classification;2) using cosine similarity for resume recommendation to find a candidate that fits job requirements best after selecting all the resumes that belong to the right category. The performance of the proposed RNN classifier is evaluated in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and confusion matrix criteria. The experiment results have shown that the RNN classifier performs better than the other classifiers such as GNB, Linear SVM, RF, and BERT on the same dataset. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.

This study is an innovative investigation into the field of plant disease detection and plant health prediction using state-of-the-art machine learning models and Quantum Support Vector Machines (QSVM) for feature extraction. A diverse dataset of 700 images, including a variety of plant species and disease states, served as the foundation for this study. The study evaluated the performance of four machine learning models: CNN (ConvNet), RNN (Recurrent), KNN (k-Nearest Neighbors), and SVM (Support Vector Machine) for accurately identifying and classifying plant diseases. Convolutional neural network (CNN) model unexpectedly prevailed, achieving a remarkable accuracy rate of 98.77%. Accuracy, recall, and F1 score of the model further demonstrated its propensity for disease diagnosis. QSVMs were used to extract intricate features from pictures of sick leaves in order to increase the models’ precision and prognostication ability. The findings have significant impact for agriculture. And the sophisticated toolkit they offer has provided an important step forward in proactive disease management for better crop health. Carrying out an early intervention for disease can result in higher crop output, lower agricultural losses, and improved global food security. The QSVM’s application of quantum computing principles also opens up fresh frontiers for creating machine learning applications in different industries. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

In the United States, heart disease is the leading cause of death, killing about 695,000 people each year. Myocardial infarction (MI) is a cardiac complication which occurs when blood flow to a portion of the heart decreases or halts, leading to damage in the heart muscle. Heart failure and Atrial fibrillation (AF) are closely associated with MI. Heart failure is a common complication of MI and a risk factor for AF. Machine learning (ML) and deep learning techniques have shown potential in predicting cardiovascular conditions. However, developing a simplified predictive model, along with a thorough feature analysis, is challenging due to various factors, including lifestyle, age, family history, medical conditions, and clinical variables for cardiac complications prediction. This paper aims to develop simplified models with comprehensive feature analysis and data preprocessing for predicting cardiac complications, such as heart failure and atrial fibrillation linked with MI, using a publicly available dataset of myocardial infarction patients. This will help the students and health care professionals understand various factors responsible for cardiac complications through a simplified workflow. By prioritizing interpretability, this paper illustrates how simpler models, like decision trees and logistic regression, can provide transparent decision-making processes while still maintaining a balance with accuracy. Additionally, this paper examines how age-specific factors affect heart failure and atrial fibrillation conditions. Overall this research focuses on making machine learning accessible and interpretable. Its goal is to equip students and non-experts with practical tools to understand how ML can be applied in healthcare, particularly for the cardiac complications prediction for patients having MI. © 2024 IEEE.

In recent years, the prevalence of Age-Related Illnesses (ARL) has been increasing among older individuals, and early recognition and treatment will result in better living conditions. It is well known that Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is among the ARD, and severe cases may result in dementia as well. It is the purpose of this study to propose a technique for distinguishing normal/AD brain MRI slices with improved accuracy utilizing the T2-modality. This scheme consists following phases: (i) Brain MRI collection and preprocessing, (ii) Deep feature extraction with the chosen scheme, (iii) Handcrafted feature extraction, (iv) Whale Algorithm (WA) based feature reduction and serial integration, and (v) binary classification using five-fold cross-validation. A total of 2000 MRI slices (1000 normal and 1000 AD class) are examined during this task using images collected from Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI). This study confirms that the proposed scheme provides a classification accuracy of > 98% when applied with the K-Nearest Classifier. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature.

Phishing,an Internet fraudwhere individuals are deceived into revealing critical personal and account information,poses a significant risk to both consumers and web-based *** indicates a persistent rise in phishing ***,these fraudulent schemes are progressively becoming more intricate,thereby rendering them more challenging to ***,it is imperative to utilize sophisticated algorithms to address this *** learning is a highly effective approach for identifying and uncovering these harmful *** learning(ML)approaches can identify common characteristics in most phishing *** this paper,we propose an ensemble approach and compare it with six machine learning techniques to determine the type of website and whether it is normal or not based on two phishing *** that,we used the normalization technique on the dataset to transform the range of all the features into the same *** findings of this paper for all algorithms are as follows in the first dataset based on accuracy,precision,recall,and F1-score,respectively:Decision Tree(DT)(0.964,0.961,0.976,0.968),Random Forest(RF)(0.970,0.964,0.984,0.974),Gradient Boosting(GB)(0.960,0.959,0.971,0.965),XGBoost(XGB)(0.973,0.976,0.976,0.976),AdaBoost(0.934,0.934,0.950,0.942),Multi Layer Perceptron(MLP)(0.970,0.971,0.976,0.974)and Voting(0.978,0.975,0.987,0.981).So,the Voting classifier gave the best *** in the second dataset,all the algorithms gave the same results in four evaluation metrics,which indicates that each of them can effectively accomplish the prediction ***,this approach outperformed the previous work in detecting phishing websites with high accuracy,a lower false negative rate,a shorter prediction time,and a lower false positive rate.

Precision matrix estimation is a ubiquitous task featuring numerous applications such as rare disease diagnosis and neural connectivity exploration. However, this task becomes challenging in small sample settings, where the number of samples is significantly less than the number of dimensions, leading to unreliable estimates. Previous approaches either fail to perform well in small sample settings or suffer from inefficient estimation processes, even when incorporating meta-learning techniques. To this end, we propose a novel approach FasMe for Fast and Sample-efficient Meta Precision Matrix Learning, which first extracts meta-knowledge through a multi-task learning diagram. Then, meta-knowledge constraints are applied using a maximum determinant matrix completion algorithm for the novel task. As a result, we reduce the sample size requirements to O(log p/K) per meta-training task and O(log |G|) for the meta-testing task. Moreover, the hereby proposed model only needs O(p log ϵ−1) time and O(p) memory for converging to an ϵ-accurate solution. On multiple synthetic and biomedical datasets, FasMe is at least ten times faster than the four baselines while promoting prediction accuracy in small sample settings. © 2024 Neural information processing systems foundation. The Visual Storytelling Task (VST) extends beyond describing a single image, such as image captioning, to sequential image descriptions in the form of a coherent story. However, such descriptions present challenges in handling varying language styles, relational role-modeling, consistency, and events not evident in individual images. A common limitation in existing approaches is their inability to fully describe relations and visual changes, leading to stories devoid of linguistic cohesion between multiple sentences. To address this challenge, we introduce a novel framework, Sequential Image Storytelling Model (SISM), based on the Transformer architecture. Our model contextualizes input images by dividing them into multiple 16 × 16 patches and associates them with language content using the encoder-decoder technique. It incorporates cross-attention and attention pooling to identify the most relevant relationships between input images. Our proposed model achieves state-of-the-art performance on the recently published SSID dataset and performs competitively on VIST dataset, achieving the top score on BLEU-1 metric. © 2023 IEEE.

Functional dependencies (FDs) form a valuable ingredient for various data management tasks. However, existing methods can hardly discover practical and interpretable FDs, especially in large noisy real-life datasets. This paper studies the problem of discovering meaningful functional dependencies (FDms) that utilize support and error parameters to capture interesting dependencies in such datasets and proposes an efficient discovery algorithm called FDM?. In order to scale with large datasets, FDM ? employs an efficient sampling method with accuracy guarantees to capture the differences between tuple pairs and to quantify the connection between support/error of dependencies on samples and those on the entire dataset. Moreover, it adopts a clustering-based correlated attributes extraction to divide the exponentially large search space into multiple small sub-spaces and proposes an easy-first traversal strategy with covariance-based guidance that quickly detects candidate dependencies and validates them. Additionally, we prove a covariance lower bound as an additional pruning criterion to reduce the search space. Extensive experiments on real-life and synthetic datasets demonstrate that FDM ? is 14 times faster than existing discovery algorithms on average, up to 31 times, and scales to larger datasets with the least memory cost. © 2024 IEEE.

Network security is crucial to ensure the protection of information systems in an increasingly connected world, and network traffic attack detection is an important aspect of maintaining system integrity. This study addresses this by investigating the use of a powerful and flexible machine learning algorithm, namely Support Vector Machines (SVM), to detect network traffic attacks. As a result, SVM has been successfully applied in different domains like network security, etc. In this study, SVM is applied for normal and malicious network traffic classification, including several attack types like Denial-of-Service (DoS), User-to-Root (U2R), and Remote-to-Local (R2L) attacks. To this end, the KDD Cup 99 dataset is employed for training and testing the model. These metrics are then used to evaluate the performance of the SVM-based intrusion detection system. The results demonstrate that SVM is able to recognize a high level of accurateness on network data traffic attacks as well as it has performed well in a difficult attack trends. In this case, the F1-scores for the Linear and RBF did result in 96.65/99.24, respectively, indicating that SVM also proved to be an effective algorithm choice in this example. Finally, the study either propose new algorithms or improve existing algorithms for SVM and demonstrate their effectiveness in the area of network security. In conclusion, this study reinforces the importance of SVM as an effective instrument in the detection of attacks on network traffic and strengthening cyber defense capabilities. © 2024 IEEE.
