Skin cancer is the most commonly reported type of cancer globally and one of the few cancers that can be effectively treated if detected in its early stages. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have significantly improved skin cancer diagnosis through Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) models. This review explores ML and DL methodologies, including Random Forest, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Inception Networks, ResNets, and Support Vector Machines (SVMs), which have been widely used for automated diagnosis. However, existing AI-based systems face several challenges, including the need for balanced datasets, model interpretability issues, computational complexity, and difficulties in generalizing across diverse populations. Moreover, multimodal detection systems and Explainable AI (XAI) present additional challenges in making AI-driven diagnoses more reliable and transparent. This article discusses these challenges while also highlighting emerging techniques that integrate multiple data sources and individualized diagnostic tools to enhance precision. By addressing these challenges, this review aims to provide insights into the practical advancements and future directions of AI in skin cancer detection and treatment. © 2025 IEEE.

South Indian agricultural crop yield prediction using deep learning and transfer learning models

Agriculture is an essential part of the Indian economy, so crop yield (CY) prediction is vital to help farmers and their businesses understand when to plant a crop and when to harvest based on seasons for better CY. This study proposes a deep learning model called Mish Activation-based Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit (MABGRU) to forecast CYs primarily grown throughout India. The system comprises the following steps: preprocessing, deep feature extraction, feature selection, and CY prediction. Initially, the system performs preprocessing steps such as imputation and normalization to handle the missing values and standardize the dataset. Then, deep features are learned using the Deformable Attention-based Residual Network-50 (DARN50). Then, the best features are chosen from the extracted feature set using the Tent chaotic map and phasor operator, including the Sparrow search algorithm (TPSSA). Finally, MABGRU is employed for CY prediction. The result of the system is compared with the existing systems, and our model outperforms the previous techniques by achieving a maximum accuracy of 98.88% with less computational time (15.9 ms). © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Austria, part of Springer Nature 2025.

The financial markets are inherently volatile, and investors constantly seek ways to mitigate risks while maximizing returns. This work aims to develop a stop-loss hedging strategy for a portfolio of stocks listed on the National Stock Exchange (Nse) to minimize losses and maximize returns. This strategy utilizes real-time market data to adjust stop-load levels dynamically by predicting future stock. This will protect against market downwards. We used long short-term memory (LSTM) neural networks to predict the next stock value. This AI-driven model allows the system to predict the next stock by using real-time market data and adjust the stoploss level accordingly. In addition, this system integrates a hedging strategy. It determines whether to hedge based on the predicted stock price compared to the current price. If the predicted price is less than the current price a hedging strategy like short selling or buying put option is suggested. This automated solution is useful for retail investors. This strategy will protect against losses and returns maximum profits. When the market is upside the stoploss position also increases and will make maximum profits. If the market is downward it will protest from losses by putting a stoploss level and it will return minimum losses. Here we use different algorithms in the work like decision tree, random forest, LSTM, and SVM. Based on the all algorithms we got the highest accuracy for the decision tree and the accuracy is 99.54%. © 2025 IEEE.

Understanding the structural growth of paediatric brains is a key step in the identification of various neuro-developmental disorders. However, our knowledge is limited by many factors, including the lack of automated image analysis tools, especially in Low and Middle Income Countries from the lack of high field MR images available. Low-field systems are being increasingly explored in these countries, and, therefore, there is a need to develop automated image analysis tools for these images. In this work, as a preliminary step, we consider two tasks: 1) automated quality assurance and 2) hippocampal segmentation, where we compare multiple approaches. For the automated quality assurance task a DenseNet combined with appearance-based transformations for synthesising artefacts produced the best performance, with a weighted accuracy of 82.3%, thus ranking in the 1st place in the LISA2024 Challenge. For the segmentation task, registration of an average atlas performed the best, with a final Dice score of 0.61. Our results show that although the images can provide understanding of large scale pathologies and gross scale anatomical development, there still remain barriers for their use for more granular analyses. © The Author(s) 2025.

The diagnosis of Ovarian Tumor (OT) remains a significant challenge as there is presently no practical non-invasive technique to determine true benign or malignant lesions before treatment. This study proposes a unique Deformable Dual Graph Aggregation Transformer Convolutional Network (DeDGATCNet) with Spider Wasp Optimizer (SWO) for the classification of ovarian tumors acquired from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In contrast to traditional deep learning models, DeDGATCNet + SWO directly integrates bending graph-based forming transformer convolutional learning and improves representation for better classification. The SWO is combined to optimize the parameters of the network, thereby improving its performance. The procedures include pre-processing the MRI data from the study of ovarian tumor TCGA-OV datasets with an Adaptive Bilateral Texture Filter (ABTF) for removing artifacts and normalization of intensity, accompanied by a segment using a Masked-Attention Mask Transformer (MAMT). Feature extraction is achieved through a One-Dimensional Quaternion Discrete Fourier Transform (1D-QDFT), which captures features from both the spatial and frequency domains. DeDGATCNet + SWO performance is way ahead and sets a new accuracy record of 99.9% for state-of-the-art models. This research introduces a new type of hybridization between deformable graph transformers, quaternion-based spectral analysis, and nature-inspired optimization techniques, setting non-invasive OT at a new height for classification and improving early diagnosis. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Tuberculosis (TB) has been a great challenge in the health world, and proper treatment requires proper diagnosis at the right time. This paper has classified the bacilli in sputum samples into single/simple and clump formations using deep-learning transformer techniques. The method starts with semantic segmentation, where TransUNet model has been used on sputum images to detect regions containing the bacilli. The superior visual task performer, the Swin Transformer, further classifies the regions identified. Accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, and AUC-ROC are the metrics used to evaluate the model's performance. This classification contributes to TB diagnosis by quantifying bacterial load and categorizing infection severity. This type of differentiation may guide clinicians in developing more precise treatment strategies as the variability of infection severity may be observed in patients suffering from TB. Integrating the recent transformer models, such as Swin Transformer and TransUNet, into the microbiological diagnosis process will improve the speed of TB diagnosis, and automated bacterial classification will occur through an organized process. This study will help diagnose TB by improving the capacity of diagnosis, which subsequently helps in better decision-making regarding treatment and management, independent of human interpretation. The successful classification of TB bacilli resulted in an average accuracy of 93%, average precision of 93%, average recall of 92.5%, and average F1-score of 92.5%. © 2025 IEEE.

Modern image recognition has experienced dramatic improvements because of Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms together. This study investigates CNNs and SVMs for recognition enhancement while reviewing image recognition technologies extensively through literature. This paper demonstrates how the applications of healthcare and security systems and social media analysis influence society. New developments in technology have not resolved multiple unresolved obstacles such as data bias as well as computational complexity and privacy concerns together with real-time processing restrictions. The latest image processing techniques include ViTs alongside GANs and Few-Shot Learning but developers need to achieve better results in future improvements. The main goal of this research examines present-day advancements in ML and DL with a review of their capabilities as well as constraints before recommending future study paths to overcome problems encountered today. This paper evaluates both the future potential and benefits alongside drawbacks of ML and DL models applied to image recognition. © 2025 IEEE.

Fetal mortality and newborn health issues require urgent attention because of high maternal and infant mortality rates during labor, highlighting the critical need for accurate fetal condition monitoring to reduce complications. This study proposes the development of a fetal health risk classification model based on Important Feature Selection (IFS) and a Classification and Regression Tree (CART) using cardiotocography (CTG) data from the UCI Machine Learning Repository. The IFS method was used to select the most relevant features, reduce model complexity, and increase generalization to prevent overfitting. The IFS-CART model was tested with 10-fold cross-validation and showed an accuracy of 94.50%, superior to the conventional CART, which only reached 93.83%. In addition, the average values of the True Positive Rate (TPR) and True Negative Rate (TNR) also increased, indicating that this model is effective in distinguishing normal, suspected, and pathological fetal conditions. Evaluation using the area under the curve receiver operating characteristic (AUC-ROC) showed that the model had high performance in detecting at-risk conditions, with an AUC of 0.981 for the"suspect" class. This finding confirmed that IFS-CART is not only accurate but also has high interpretability, making it easy for medical personnel to use for clinical decision support. The results of this study show that IFS-CART can serve as a reliable decision support system for real-time fetal health monitoring. Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide, emphasizing the critical need for early diagnosis and prevention. Machine learning (ML) has demonstrated significant potential in improving stroke prediction and management by analysing complex datasets for risk stratification, diagnosis, and treatment planning. However, the adoption of ML in stroke medicine is limited by the opacity of these models, which can hinder clinical trust and decision-making. Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) addresses this challenge by making ML models more interpretable and transparent, enabling healthcare professionals to understand, validate, and trust their outputs. This research work explores the integration of XAI in stroke medicine, highlighting its potential to enhance early diagnosis, personalized prevention strategies, and treatment planning. We discuss the opportunities XAI provides in identifying high-risk patients, uncovering critical predictors, and enabling informed clinical decisions. Furthermore, we examine challenges such as ensuring model reliability, addressing biases in stroke datasets, and navigating ethical considerations related to patient data privacy and algorithmic accountability. © 2025 IEEE.
