Exploring Variants of Extreme Learning Machines for Prediction of Mutual Fund NAV

Investing money through mutual fund benefits the small investors to access equities of big companies with a small amount of capital. It experiences the fluctuation of price along with the performance of stock, which is a major part in making the fund. Here, in this paper variant of Extreme Learning Machines (ELM) are applied to forecast the end-of-year net asset value (NAV) of mutual fund. Various types of ELM such as basic ELM, evolutionary ELM, online sequential ELM and error minimized ELM are explored and applied to historical data of four mutual funds such as SBI mutual fund, UTI mutual fund, Tata Mutual Fund and Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund for the prediction of NAV. Along with the different ELM based prediction model, this paper has explored on different types of activation functions and the number of nodes in the hidden layer used in variants of ELM. Examining the simulation result of all the models, along with different activation functions and different number of nodes, it is observed that evolutionary ELM outperforms over the other variants of ELM used in this study. © 2024 school of science, DUTH. The field of quantile estimation has grown in importance due to its myriad practical applications. Recent research trends have evolved from estimating the quantile for a single data stream to developing data structures that can concurrently estimate quantiles for multiple sub-streams, also known as flows. This paper introduces a novel framework, M4, designed to estimate per-flow quantiles in data streams accurately. M4 is a versatile framework that can be integrated with a wide array of single-flow quantile estimation algorithms, thereby enabling them to perform per-flow estimation. The framework employs a sketch-based approach to provide a space-efficient method for recording and extracting distribution information. M4 incorporates two techniques: MINIMUM and SUM. The MINIMUM technique minimizes the noise on a flow from other flows caused by hash collisions, while the SUM technique efficiently categorizes flows based on their sizes and customizes treatment strategies accordingly. We demonstrate the application of M4 on three single-flow quantile estimation algorithms (DDSketch, t-digest, and ReqSketch), detailing the specific implementation of the MINIMUM and SUM techniques. We provide theoretical proof that M4 delivers high accuracy while utilizing limited memory. Additionally, we conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of M4 regarding accuracy and speed. The experimental results indicate that across all three example algorithms, M4 significantly outperforms two comparison frameworks in terms of accuracy for per-flow quantile estimation while maintaining comparable speed. © 2024 IEEE.

This work proposes a new approach to convert the data from sign language to spoken language without exposing the data to a gloss layer. Whenever gloss annotations are used which frequently are incomplete and act as an intermediate representation, it is usually found to be a bottleneck in translating sign language videos. In order to avoid this, the authors use a combination of modern machine learning algorithms to arrive at the conclusion. They use Dino-V2 Vision Transformer to implement the function of extracting the spatial features of the input sign language video frames. This model is particularly suitable for learning and visual patterns in general and particularly for capturing fine details of these patterns. Further, a spatio-temporal transformer layer is added to automate the temporal processing of the Sign-Language which helps in the arrangement of the body gestures and limb movements needed at a specific temporal frame. It is then translated into the desired spoken language using a multilingual Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) model. The approach can be said to be a big leap forward in sign language transliteration especially for such situations where few Gloss annotations are available, and making way for better and improved tools for the Deaf and the hard-of-hearing. © 2024 IEEE.

The people in the capital city of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, have been living for years with air pollution. Air quality has been a concern for a long time due to the health risks it has on people, especially those at risk. Using classification algorithms, we would like to implement data mining for the air quality index and make predictions from our capital city, DKI Jakarta. This research aims to compare Decision Tree and Support Vector Machine in predicting Air Quality Index in DKI Jakarta in 2020. The dataset was collected from the Jakarta Open data Web, and the results of this research highlight the effectiveness of data mining techniques in predicting air quality index levels in Jakarta and emphasize the importance of selecting the appropriate classification algorithm for data mining applications. This research shows that SVM, compared to the Decision tree, has a better result with an accuracy score of 87.86%. On the other hand, Decision Tree has a score of 90.56%. © 2023 IEEE.

The university admission process can be overwhelming for applicants and admission officers, with many questions being asked and answered every year. The manual classification of these questions can be time-consuming and may lead to errors, making exploring automated solutions to this problem essential. In recent years, advances in natural language processing (NLP), including question classification. The research proposes an architecture for a question classification system using the Indonesian Language in closed-domain question answering. The purpose of this research is to find out the classification of questions. We created a system with the Named-Entity Recognition method to recognize the next word that will be used as a candidate type of question and candidate answer. The type of question used is a factoid question. Research makes patterns and rules for extracting important words as features to determine the taxonomy of question classification. datasets are collected from one private university in Indonesia. data sources from Binus Online Learning websites and data on questions frequently asked by users, especially prospective students. The results of the question classification are presented using descriptive statistics. The results show that the question classification with users' most frequent question type is 'What' by 63.3%, and the answer category is 'tuition fees' by 22.4%. It can be concluded that the most frequent question type asked by users is 'What', and the most frequent topic of interest is 'tuition fees'. Organizations can use this information to improve customer service by providing more relevant information and resources about tuition fees. © 2023 IEEE.

Vision-language models (VLMs) have emerged as formidable tools, showing their strong capability in handling various open-vocabulary tasks in image recognition, text-driven visual content generation, and visual chatbots, to name a few. In recent years, considerable efforts and resources have been devoted to adaptation methods for improving the downstream performance of VLMs, particularly on parameter-efficient fine-tuning methods like prompt learning. However, a crucial aspect that has been largely overlooked is the confidence calibration problem in fine-tuned VLMs, which could greatly reduce reliability when deploying such models in the real world. This paper bridges the gap by systematically investigating the confidence calibration problem in the context of prompt learning and reveals that existing calibration methods are insufficient to address the problem, especially in the open-vocabulary setting. To solve the problem, we present a simple and effective approach called Distance-Aware Calibration (DAC), which is based on scaling the temperature using as guidance the distance between predicted text labels and base classes. The experiments with 7 distinct prompt learning methods applied across 11 diverse downstream datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of DAC, which achieves high efficacy without sacrificing the inference speed. Bacteria are microscopic organisms that can be found in many environments. They are abundant and have many roles in our life. Studying bacteria is essential so that we can identify the bacteria that are needed for many industrial applications. However, the main problem is that majority of the bacteria are unculturable, hampering the exploration of bacteria from different environments. Metagenomics approach which employs Next Generation Sequencing technology could help study bacteria by utilizing 16S rRNA marker gene. This study aims to demonstrate data mining and bioinformatics approaches to analyze 16S rRNA sequencing data. The raw sequencing data of 16S rRNA was collected from biological database. Then, the data were trimmed, denoised, and clustered to generate Amplicon Sequence Variants (ASVs). Diversity (alpha and beta) and taxonomic analyses were then conducted to elucidate the bacterial diversity and taxonomic profile of ASVs. The results of this work showed that Shannon and PD indices in China's hot spring were higher than Singapore and the USA. Furthermore, a significant difference was observed in the PD index. The unweighted UniFrac distance also showed there was a significant difference of the bacterial communities between the three locations. In addition, the taxonomic investigation unveiled prevalent bacterial groups in the ecosystem, namely Proteobacteria, Chloroflexi, Cyanobacteria, and Crenarchaeota. The research outcomes have the potential to serve as a foundational resource for subsequent bacterial metagenomic research, particularly the hot spring environment. © 2023 IEEE.

With the development of hardware devices and the upgrading of smartphones,a large number of users save privacy-related information in mobile devices,mainly smartphones,which puts forward higher demands on the protection of mobile users’privacy *** present,mobile user authenticationmethods based on humancomputer interaction have been extensively studied due to their advantages of high precision and non-perception,but there are still shortcomings such as low data collection efficiency,untrustworthy participating nodes,and lack of *** this end,this paper proposes a privacy-enhanced mobile user authentication method with motion sensors,which mainly includes:(1)Construct a smart contract-based private chain and federated learning to improve the data collection efficiency of mobile user authentication,reduce the probability of the model being bypassed by attackers,and reduce the overhead of data centralized processing and the risk of privacy leakage;(2)Use certificateless encryption to realize the authentication of the device to ensure the credibility of the client nodes participating in the calculation;(3)Combine Variational Mode Decomposition(VMD)and Long Short-TermMemory(LSTM)to analyze and model the motion sensor data of mobile devices to improve the accuracy of model *** experimental results on the real environment dataset of 1513 people show that themethod proposed in this paper can effectively resist poisoning attacks while ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of mobile user authentication.

Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) models such as LLMs, GPTs, and Diffusion Models have recently gained widespread attention from both the research and the industrial communities. This survey explores their application in network monitoring and management, focusing on prominent use cases, as well as challenges and opportunities. We discuss how network traffic generation and classification, network intrusion detection, networked system log analysis, and network digital assistance can benefit from the use of GenAI models. Additionally, we provide an overview of the available GenAI models, datasets for largescale training phases, and platforms for the development of such models. Finally, we discuss research directions that potentially mitigate the roadblocks to the adoption of GenAI for network monitoring and management. Our investigation aims to map the current landscape and pave the way for future research in leveraging GenAI for network monitoring and management. © 2004-2012 IEEE.

Vehicular network technology has made substantial advancements in recent years in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems. Vehicular Cloud Computing (VCC) has emerged as a novel paradigm with a substantial increase in data exchange within Vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs). VCC integrates cloud computing, vehicular networking, and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies. It enables Infrastructure-to-Vehicle (I2V), Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), and Vehicle-to-Device (V2D) communication. VCC optimizes vehicle, cloud infrastructure, and IoT resources while addressing significant communication security and vehicle-user privacy challenges. To address these issues, we developed an RFID-based authentication protocol for VCC based on a Henon map using a hash function. In addition, we also incorporated a Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) to resist physical tampering attacks. We validate the protocol's security formally and informally. The formal security analysis is conducted through a widely used RoR model. We use the Scyther simulation tool to verify the proposed protocol's security against various attacks. Moreover, we compare the performance of our protocol with similar existing protocols across important performance parameters such as communication and computation overheads and security attributes. The proposed protocol yields substantial improvements, demonstrating a 40.74% reduction in computation overhead and a 13.03% decrease in communication overhead as compared to related protocols, delivering both enhanced performance and resource efficiency. The analysis demonstrates its capacity to support secure communication in the VCC environment and satisfy desirable security attributes. © 2024 IEEE.
