Toward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with Statistical Modeling: Recursive Bivariate Binary Probit

Poverty is still a global problem that must be immediately eradicated by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, namely ending poverty anywhere and in any form. In 2021, West Papua province will have the 2nd most significant percentage of poor people after Papua province, with 21.84% of the poor population. Poor households in West Papua province are dominated by families, with the Head of Household (KRT) working in the agricultural sector at 65.10 %. In this research, joint modelling was carried out between the level of household welfare and the employment sector of the head of the household in the West Papua province. It is suspected that these two variables have endogeneity problems, where one of the response variables becomes a predictor variable in the other equation, so a recursive bivariate binary probit regression model is used. Recursive bivariate binary probit regression parameter estimation uses Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE), but the results are not closed form, so it is continued using the Newton-Raphson iteration method. The results of hypothesis testing show that partially, variables that significantly influence the level of household welfare include the variable marital status, KRT formal/informal workers, health complaints, asset ownership status, migration status, number of household members, classification of area of residence (Village/City), age of head of household, and employment sector of head of household. Meanwhile, variables that significantly influence the choice of working in the agricultural sector include the director of household education, classification of area of residence (rural/city), and the age of the head of household. © (2024), (International Association of Engineers). We introduce Mahakala, a Python-based, modular, radiative ray-tracing code for curved spacetimes. We employ Google’s JAX framework for accelerated automatic differentiation, which can efficiently compute Christoffel symbols directly from the metric, allowing the user to easily and quickly simulate photon trajectories through non-Kerr spacetimes. JAX also enables Mahakala to run in parallel on both CPUs and GPUs. Mahakala natively uses the Cartesian Kerr-Schild coordinate system, which avoids numerical issues caused by the pole in spherical coordinate systems. We demonstrate Mahakala’s capabilities by simulating 1.3 mm wavelength images (the wavelength of Event Horizon Telescope observations) of general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of low-accretion rate supermassive black holes. The modular nature of Mahakala allows us to quantitatively explore how different regions of the flow influence different image features. We show that most of the emission seen in 1.3 mm images originates close to the black hole and peaks near the photon orbit. We also quantify the relative contribution of the disk, forward jet, and counterjet to 1.3 mm images. © 2025. The Author(s). Published by the American Astronomical Society.

A model for Optimizing the health and economic impacts of Covid-19 under social distancing measures;A study for the number of passengers and their seating arrangements in Aircrafts

Covid-19 has had a disastrous economic impact on countries and industries as countries have gone through the lockdown process to reduce the health impact of Covid-19. As countries have begun the reopening phases, businesses have been allowed to have on-site customers but with reduced number of people on their sites to follow the social distancing measures. This has resulted in a big burden on the economic side of these businesses as their number of customers have decreased substantially. In this study we propose a model to minimize the economic impact of Covid-19 for businesses and organizations that have implemented social distancing measures as well as health impact of Covid-19 for their customers and employees. We introduce quantity Spread in which minimizing Spread gives the optimum number and arrangement of people on a given site with a social distancing measure. We apply our model to a real-world case and optimize the number of passengers and their arrangements under a social distancing measure for two different popular aircraft seat layouts using Annealing Monte Carlo technique. We obtain the optimum numbers and optimal arrangements of passengers considering both family groups and individual passengers for the social distancing measure. The obtained optimal arrangements of passengers show complex patterns with groups and individual passengers are mixed in complex and non-trivial ways. This demonstrates the necessity of using our model or its variants to find these optimal arrangements. Moreover, we show that any other arrangements of passengers with the same number of passengers is a suboptimal arrangement with higher health risks as a result of lower distance between passengers. Our model could be implemented to other social setups such as sports events, theaters, medical centers, etc. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The genetic information coded in DNA leads to trait innovation via a gene regulatory network(GRN)in ***,we developed a conserved non-coding element interpretation method to integrate multi-omics data into gene regulatory network(CNEReg)to investigate the ruminant multi-chambered stomach *** generated paired expression and chromatin accessibility data during rumen and esophagus development in sheep,and revealed 1601 active ruminantspecific conserved non-coding elements(active-RSCNEs).To interpret the function of these activeRSCNEs,we defined toolkit transcription factors(TTFs)and modeled their regulation on rumenspecific genes via batteries of active-RSCNEs during *** developmental GRN revealed 18 TTFs and 313 active-RSCNEs regulating 7 rumen functional ***,6 TTFs(OTX1,SOX21,HOXC8,SOX2,TP63,and PPARG),as well as 16 active-RSCNEs,functionally distinguished the rumen from the *** study provides a systematic approach to understanding how gene regulation evolves and shapes complex traits by putting evo-devo concepts into practice with developmental multi-omics data.

The smart city is a concept of creating a comfortable, safe, and accessible living place. Furthermore, a smart city is built to raise the value of the city in economic, social, and technology. One dimension of all seven dimensions planned by Yogyakarta Smart City program is smart disaster management. Yogyakarta located in the disaster – prone area, with disaster potentials such as earthquake, fire, tornado, and flood. This particular dimension becoming essential to reduce the effects of a disaster. One of the effects of a disaster is the loss of human life. Citizen in Yogyakarta especially in Pringgokusuman is one of the group of element at risk in disaster. Education about disaster is important to them. This research aims to analyse citizen knowledge of the disaster information. This research is using qualitative research methodology including an indepth interview with descriptive analysis. This study shows that information about disaster management is not optimized, even though the information is needed. A suitable dissemination strategy needs to be developed in order to educate citizens and enhance their awareness in applying smart disaster management technology.

Fabrication of PSf/P84-blended membranes with low P84 content: Characteristics and gas separation performance

The demand for efficient and sustainable gas separation technologies is ever-increasing in various industries, including petrochemicals, natural gas processing, and carbon capture. Polymer-based membranes offer a promising solution due to their potential for high selectivity and energy efficiency. However, achieving optimal gas separation performance often requires overcoming the limitations of individual polymers through modifications such as polymer blending. In this study, PSf/P84 blended membranes with low P84 content were fabricated using the phase separation technique with a mixture of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and tetrahydrofuran as solvents. The effect of varying the mass ratio of PSf to P84 on membrane characteristics and gas separation performance was investigated. Characterization techniques included FTIR, XRD, SEM, TGA, Water Contact Angle (WCA) measurement, and mechanical property testing. Gas permeation tests were conducted with single gases at room temperature and 1 bar pressure. The results revealed that the addition of P84 increased membrane thickness, Young's modulus, and thermal stability, while decreasing d-spacing, dense layer thickness, hydrophilicity, tensile strength, and elongation. The F_index values, indicating the competence of the blended membranes compared to the ideal quality, demonstrated the positive impact of P84 addition on gas separation performance compared to pure PSf membranes. The optimal gas separation selectivity was achieved with the PSf/P84 1:0.025 blended membrane for H₂/CH₄ (11.28, 58 % increase), H₂/CO₂ (6.25, 193 % increase), and H₂/N₂ (5.25, 35 % increase). The highest N₂/CH₄ selectivity (6.29, 253 % increase) was observed with the 1:0.10 composition. Regarding commercially relevant separations based on the 2008 Robeson curve, the PSf/P84 1:0.20 blend showed promise for H₂/CO₂ separation, while the 1:0.

Comparison of multivariate adaptive Poisson Regression spline and multivariate adaptive generalized Poisson Regression spline

The multivariate adaptive regression (MARS) spline is a statistical method introduced by Friedman in 1991. The MARS method has several advantages, especially for data that consider the potential nonlinear pattern. These produce a continuous model on knots where the knot selection process is performed via adaptive procedures, capturing additive effects and interactions between predictor variables, and applied to data modeling with numerical and categorical responses. However, the analyzed data is not only numerical or categorical data, but also count type data. Count type data is often found in the health sector, for example, the number of data on tuberculosis. It invites to modify the MARS model with Poisson regression and generalized Poisson regression, i.e. Multivariate Adaptive Poisson Regression Spline (MAPRS) and Multivariate Adaptive Generalized Poisson Regression Spline (MAGPRS) . In addition, this study aimed to compare MAPRS and MAGPRS when applied to tuberculosis data. By applying MAPRS and MAGPRS to model the number of tuberculosis in Lamongan regency, the MAPRS method outperforms the MAGPRS method. The MAPRS method has a lower RMSE value than the MAGPRS method.

The occurrence of Lahar floods after Merapi Volcano eruption in 2010 still continue to be a concern for the government and the community. Kali Putih is one of the rivers that originates in Merapi Volcano and is one of the Lahar flood hazard area. Non-structural mitigation efforts have been carried out by the government. Until now, there are still community activities in the forbidden hazard area. Regulations regarding to spatial planning regulation in the hazard area need to be evaluated. The aim of the study is to evaluate the Lahar flood hazard mitigation based on participatory mapping and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The research area is Jumoyo Village, which is the highest Lahar hazard flood area. The results indicate that there are still residential areas and community activities in the Lahar flood hazard area. The community does not want to lose their livelihood or relocation of their homes. The community expect that the government is able to revive the economic activities of the community through the establishment of new economic centres without relocation of their homes. The community also expect that the government able to creating new employment.

Mesoporous Silica with a large mesopore channel was synthesized using the sol-gel method for dye adsorption. A dual template consisting of P123 and gelatin at different ratios was employed in the sol-gel synthesis to enhance surface area and mesopore diameter. Gelatin is a green pore directing agent that strengthens P123 thermal stability during the calcination of silicate gel. Optimization of P123:gelatin ratio to 1:0.02 increased the surface area of mesoporous silica to 561.9 m²/g and expanded the pore diameter to 10 nm. The large pore diameter and surface area enhanced methylene blue adsorption capacity to 363.63 mg/g. The adsorption of methylene blue on mesoporous silica follows the pseudo second-order kinetic and the Langmuir model. Regeneration studies using thermal and chemical treatments exhibited the potential of mesoporous silica as an adsorbent for multiple adsorption-desorption of dyes. © 2022 The Author(s)
