RE-SEGNN:recurrent semantic evidence-aware graph neural network for temporal knowledge graph forecasting

Temporal knowledge graph(TKG) reasoning, has seen widespread use for modeling real-world events, particularly in extrapolation settings. Nevertheless, most previous studies are embedded models, which require both entity and relation embedding to make predictions, ignoring the semantic correlations among different entities and relations within the same timestamp. This can lead to random and nonsensical predictions when unseen entities or relations occur. Furthermore, many existing models exhibit limitations in handling highly correlated historical facts with extensive temporal depth. They often either overlook such facts or overly accentuate the relationships between recurring past occurrences and their current counterparts. Due to the dynamic nature of TKG, effectively capturing the evolving semantics between different timestamps can be *** address these shortcomings, we propose the recurrent semantic evidenceaware graph neural network(RE-SEGNN), a novel graph neural network that can learn the semantics of entities and relations simultaneously. For the former challenge, our model can predict a possible answer to missing quadruples based on semantics when facing unseen entities or relations. For the latter problem, based on an obvious established force, both the recency and frequency of semantic history tend to confer a higher reference value for the current. We use the Hawkes process to compute the semantic trend, which allows the semantics of recent facts to gain more attention than those of distant facts. Experimental results show that RE-SEGNN outperforms all SOTA models in entity prediction on 6 widely used datasets, and 5 datasets in relation prediction. Furthermore, the case study shows how our model can deal with unseen entities and relations.

A novel method based on hybrid deep learning with explainability for olive fruit pest forecasting

Predicting the occurrence of crop pests is becoming a crucial task in modern agriculture to facilitate farmers’ decision-making. One of the most significant pests is the olive fruit fly, a public concern because it causes damage that compromises oil quality, increasing acidity and altering its flavor. This paper proposes a hybrid deep learning model to predict the presence of olive flies in crops. This model is based on an autoencoder and an automated deep feed-forward neural network. First, the autoencoder neural network learns a representation of the data and then the automated deep feed-forward neural network automatically determines the best values for the hyperparameters in order to obtain the prediction of the number of flies caught in traps from the dataset generated by the autoencoder. On the other hand, farmers to trust the proposed deep learning models need these models to be explainable. Thus, explainable artificial intelligence techniques are applied to the produced models to interpret the results. Results using a dataset from different sources such as satellite image band data, vegetation indices, and meteorological variables are reported. The performance of the proposed model has been compared with classical benchmark algorithms and a deep learning model recently published in the literature. In addition, the comparison includes the automated deep feed-forward neural network individually to show how the autoencoder network improves the accuracy of predictions. © The Author(s) 2024.

Electricity market forecasting is very useful for the different actors involved in the energy sector to plan both the supply chain and market operation. Nowadays, energy demand data are data coming from smart meters and have to be processed in real-time for more efficient demand management. In addition, electricity prices data can present changes over time such as new patterns and new trends. Therefore, real-time forecasting algorithms for both demand and prices have to adapt and adjust to online data in order to provide timely and accurate responses. This work presents a new algorithm for electricity demand and prices forecasting in real-time. The proposed algorithm generates a prediction model based on the k-nearest neighbors algorithm, which is incrementally updated in an online scenario considering both changes to existing patterns and adding new detected patterns to the model. Both time-frequency and error threshold based model updates have been evaluated. Results using energy demand from 2007 to 2016 and prices data for different time periods from the Spanish electricity market are reported and compared with other benchmark algorithms. © The Author(s) 2025.

A survey on cross-user federated recommendation

Recommender systems are effective in mitigating information overload, yet the centralized storage of user data raises significant privacy concerns. Cross-user federated recommendation(CUFR) provides a promising distributed paradigm to address these concerns by enabling privacy-preserving recommendations directly on user devices. In this survey, we review and categorize current progress in CUFR, focusing on four key aspects: privacy, security, accuracy, and efficiency. Firstly,we conduct an in-depth privacy analysis, discuss various cases of privacy leakage, and then review recent methods for privacy protection. Secondly, we analyze security concerns and review recent methods for untargeted and targeted *** untargeted attack methods, we categorize them into data poisoning attack methods and parameter poisoning attack methods. For targeted attack methods, we categorize them into user-based methods and item-based methods. Thirdly,we provide an overview of the federated variants of some representative methods, and then review the recent methods for improving accuracy from two categories: data heterogeneity and high-order information. Fourthly, we review recent methods for improving training efficiency from two categories: client sampling and model compression. Finally, we conclude this survey and explore some potential future research topics in CUFR.

ControlVideo: conditional control for one-shot text-driven video editing and beyond

This paper presents ControlVideo for text-driven video editing — generating a video that aligns with a given text while preserving the structure of the source video. Building on a pre-trained text-to-image diffusion model, ControlVideo enhances the fidelity and temporal consistency by incorporating additional conditions(such as edge maps), and fine-tuning the key-frame and temporal attention on the source video-text pair via an in-depth exploration of the design space. Extensive experimental results demonstrate that ControlVideo outperforms various competitive baselines by delivering videos that exhibit high fidelity w.r.t. the source content, and temporal consistency, all while aligning with the text. By incorporating low-rank adaptation layers into the model before training, ControlVideo is further empowered to generate videos that align seamlessly with reference images. More importantly, ControlVideo can be readily extended to the more challenging task of long video editing(e.g., with hundreds of frames), where maintaining long-range temporal consistency is crucial. To achieve this, we propose to construct a fused ControlVideo by applying basic ControlVideo to overlapping short video segments and key frame videos and then merging them by pre-defined weight functions. Empirical results validate its capability to create videos across 140 frames, which is approximately 5.83 to 17.5 times more than what previous studies achieved. The key-value separation is renowned for its significant mitigation of the write amplification inherent in traditional LSM trees. However, KV separation potentially increases performance overhead in the management of Value region, especially for garbage collection (GC) operation that is used to reduce the redundant space occupation. In response, many efforts have been made to optimize the GC mechanism for KV separation. However, our analysis indicates that such solution based on trade-offs between CPU and I/O overheads cannot simultaneously satisfy the three requirements of KV separated systems in terms of throughput, tail latency, and space usage. This limitation hinders their real-world application. In this paper, we introduce AegonKV, a "three-birds-one-stone" solution that comprehensively enhances the throughput, tail latency, and space usage of KV separated systems. AegonKV first proposes a SmartSSD-based GC offloading mechanism to enable asynchronous GC operations without competing with LSM read/write for bandwidth or CPU. AegonKV leverages offload-friendly data structures and hardware/software execution logic to address the challenges of GC offloading. Experiments demonstrate that AegonKV achieves the largest throughput improvement of 1.28-3.3 times, a significant reduction of 37%-66% in tail latency, and 15%-85% in space overhead compared to existing KV separated systems. © 2025 FAST. Sharding is a promising technique to tackle the critical weakness of scalability in blockchain-based unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)search and rescue(SAR)*** breaking up the blockchain network into smaller partitions called shards that run independently and in parallel,shardingbased UAV systems can support a large number of search and rescue UAVs with improved scalability,thereby enhancing the rescue ***,the lack of adaptability and interoperability still hinder the application of sharded blockchain in UAV SAR *** refers to making adjustments to the blockchain towards real-time surrounding situations,while interoperability refers to making cross-shard interactions at the mission *** address the above challenges,we propose a blockchain UAV system for SAR missions based on dynamic sharding *** from the benefits in scalability brought by sharding,our system improves adaptability by dynamically creating configurable and mission-exclusive shards,and improves interoperability by supporting calls between smart contracts that are deployed on different *** implement a prototype of our system based on Quorum,give an analysis of the improved adaptability and interoperability,and conduct experiments to evaluate the *** results show our system can achieve the above goals and overcome the weakness of blockchain-based UAV systems in SAR scenarios.

The secured access is studied in this paper for the network of the image remote *** sensor in this network encounters the information security when uploading information of the images wirelessly from the sensor to the central collection *** order to enhance the sensing quality for the remote uploading,the passive reflection surface technique is *** one eavesdropper that exists nearby this sensor is keeping on accessing the same networks,he may receive the same image from this *** goal in this paper is to improve the SNR of legitimate collection unit while cut down the SNR of the eavesdropper as much as possible by adaptively adjust the uploading power from this sensor to enhance the security of the remote sensing *** order to achieve this goal,the secured energy efficiency performance is theoretically analyzed with respect to the number of the passive reflection elements by calculating the instantaneous performance over the channel fading *** on this theoretical result,the secured access is formulated as a mathematical optimization problem by adjusting the sensor uploading power as the unknown variables with the objective of the energy efficiency maximization while satisfying any required maximum data rate of the eavesdropper ***,the analytical expression is theoretically derived for the optimum uploading *** simulations verify the design approach.

Energy-efficient transfer learning for water consumption forecasting

Artificial intelligence is expanding at an unprecedented rate due to the numerous advantages it provides to all types of businesses and industries. Water utilities are adopting artificial intelligence models to optimize water management in cities nowadays. However, the substantial computational demands of artificial intelligence present challenges, particularly regarding energy consumption and environmental impact. This paper addresses this problem by proposing a transfer learning approach for water consumption forecasting that reduces computational time, energy usage, and CO2 emissions. The proposed methodology consists in developing a transfer learning approach based on a deep learning model already trained for a task with similar characteristics such as predicting electricity consumption. Thus, a pre-trained deep learning model designed for electricity consumption prediction is adapted to the water consumption domain, leveraging shared characteristics between these tasks. Experiments are conducted to determine the optimal amount of knowledge transfer and compare the performance of this approach with other state-of-the-art time-series forecasting models. Using real data from a water company in Spain, the transfer learning model achieves a similar or better accuracy than the other methods, while demonstrating significantly lower computational times, energy consumption and CO2 emissions. In addition, a scalability analysis has been conducted leading to the conclusion that the proposed transfer learning model is highly suitable to deal with big data. These findings highlight the potential of transfer learning as a sustainable and scalable solution for big data challenges in water management systems. © 2025 The Authors
