Unattended Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs) operate without human supervision and have limited resources. In a conventional WSN with a fixed sink for data collection, nodes one hop away from the sink consume more energy, causing a hotspot issue. This leads to network fragmentation and reduced sensing efficiency. To address this, a mobile sink is proposed. This study details the development and implementation of Secure MRL, focusing on legitimate message communication to the mobile sink via convex nodes. By using these convex nodes as data collection points, the mobile sink avoids traversing the entire network. We employ an enhanced system to generate keys and authenticate messages, assessing its resilience against various attacks, including sleep deprivation, snooze, network substitution, and modification. Findings indicate that Secure MRL maintains consistent performance across different node counts and significantly reduces energy consumption by 84%, improving the speed of attack detection. This improvement is achieved by monitoring the digital signature and residual energy of nodes. The proposed SVM-based network training establishes a residual energy cut-off, while convex nodes mitigate synchronization issues among other sensor nodes in Secure MRL. Additionally, convex nodes manage the availability checks for the mobile sink. The proposed approach demonstrates a 92% improvement in packet delivery ratio (PDR) and an 89% reduction in end-to-end delay, highlighting its efficacy in enhancing network performance. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

The core of recommendation models is estimating the probability that a user will like an item based on historical interactions. Existing collaborative filtering(CF) algorithms compute the likelihood by utilizing simple relationships between objects, e.g., user-item, item-item, or user-user. They always rely on a single type of object-object relationship, ignoring other useful relationship information in data. In this paper, we model an interaction between user and item as an edge and propose a novel CF framework, called learnable edge collaborative filtering(LECF). LECF predicts the existence probability of an edge based on the connections among edges and is able to capture the complex relationship in data. Specifically, we first adopt the concept of line graph where each node represents an interaction edge; then calculate a weighted sum of similarity between the query edge and the observed edges(i.e., historical interactions) that are selected from the neighborhood of query edge in the line graph for a recommendation. In addition, we design an efficient propagation algorithm to speed up the training and inference of LECF. Extensive experiments on four public datasets demonstrate LECF can achieve better performance than the state-of-the-art methods.

With advancements in predictive and prescriptive analytics over the past few years, various businesses have been extensively using recommender systems for marketing purposes. Say whether it's some sort of association analysis for customer market or any social networking for connecting people together, this very concept of recommenders has been utilized up to a very large extent over the past decade. When it comes to implementing the underlying concepts behind these systems, most of the time we get to have a paradox of choice of various techniques, which need to be carefully analyzed and acted upon to get the desired accuracy of the model. In cases where the recommendations are made based on a connected graph, we need proper feature generation techniques which play an important role in training the model as per our objective. In this paper, we propose a combination of feature extraction techniques employed over a Gradient Boost Decision Tree model for recommending people whom a person is likely to follow. We also shall investigate a few ways where the recommendation is made based on the common followers of two or more profiles and how likely two or more people may or may not know each other. In any problem, hyperparameter tuning plays the most important part which is a key aspect to optimize the model (so that it doesn't overfit or underfit the data available) and is totally problem specific. © 2022 IEEE.

Semantic segmentation of brain tumours is a fundamental task in medical image analysis that can help clinicians in diagnosing the patient and tracking the progression of any malignant entities. Accurate segmentation of brain lesions is essential for medical diagnosis and treatment planning. However, failure to acquire specific MRI imaging modalities can prevent applications from operating in critical situations, raising concerns about their reliability and overall trustworthiness. This paper presents a novel multi-modal approach for brain lesion segmentation that leverages information from four distinct imaging modalities while being robust to real-world scenarios of missing modalities, such as T1, T1c, T2, and FLAIR MRI of brains. Our proposed method can help address the challenges posed by artifacts in medical imagery due to data acquisition errors (such as patient motion) or a reconstruction algorithm’s inability to represent the anatomy while ensuring a trade-off in accuracy. Our proposed regularization module makes it robust to these scenarios and ensures the reliability of lesion segmentation. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Retinal vessel segmentation (RVS) is important to accurately differentiate retinal vasculature for diagnosing and monitoring various ocular and systemic diseases. The traditional methods for RVS have mostly involved supervised learning, although semi-supervised and unsupervised techniques are on the rise. This paper reviews the increase in complexity of developments in RVS primarily after 2020. The methods were chosen to cover both the gradual transition over time and a variety of unorthodox or combinatorial approaches. This includes convolutional neural networks, encoder-decoder models, generative models, and other multi-modal or hybrid techniques. CNN approaches discussed employ Zero Phase Component Analysis, Global Contrast Normalization, and reinforcement learning. Encoder-decoder models include approaches such as the use of skip and residual connections, spatial attention, and atrous enhancement U-Net. Generative models propose short link connections, recurrent residual blocks, and multi-scale features to refine convolutional blocks. Hybrid methods involve the use of connectivity features, the MISOdata Algorithm, cross-domain adaptation, and multiple filters (such as morphological, match, and Gabor). All the frameworks are compared based on their performance on the benchmark dataset DRIVE to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state of RVS. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Main motto of ship routing and scheduling is to reduce the total transportation cost of each ship or vessel without interrupting the demand and supply. In this study, we have proposed a ship routing and scheduling model for commercial ships where, to ensure unhindered demand and supply of products at various ports in a fixed time frame, the dynamic demand and supply of each port were considered under a fuzzy environment. Additionally, simultaneous loading and unloading and a fixed load factor is used to minimize port time and reduce risks, and this aspect of our work makes it realistically inclined. We also show, in our work, speed optimization to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emission. In practice, cost parameters cannot be always determined, it fluctuates at a certain range from time to time. We have treated the imprecise cost parameters as triangular fuzzy numbers. With a view to working with the developed model, a modified genetic algorithm (MGA) with a new selection technique, namely an in-vitro-fertilization-based crossover, and a generation-dependent mutation is proposed. The proposed sustainable ship routing algorithm with dynamic demand and supply in an uncertain environment gives a novelty in the literature. Another novelty is incurred through the proposed MGA in the heuristic search algorithms. This algorithm has produced numerical results superior to those of other heuristic algorithms. We have also established the efficiency of the proposed algorithm through statistical experiments. © 2021 by the authors.

In response to the challenges posed by increasing urbanization, traditional parking systems face numerous issues, such as inaccurate slot detection and manual tracking, which exacerbate traffic congestion and environmental strain. This paper presents an autonomous parking system as a solution to these challenges. By leveraging advanced object detection algorithms, including YOLO-NAS, YOLOv8, and DETR models, this system revolutionizes parking space identification, freeing drivers from the task of manual searching. Our research focused on identifying the most suitable object detection algorithm for our dataset and objectives. Utilizing the 'PKLot' dataset, we trained and fine-tuned our models, ensuring consistency in hyperparameters across algorithms to isolate their impact on performance. We evaluated algorithmic efficacy using metrics like mean average precision (mAP) and latency, measuring accuracy in discerning occupied and vacant spaces alongside real-time processing efficiency. Our evaluation results highlight the performance differences among algorithms, guiding future research. This research advocates for an intelligent, autonomous approach to parking management, aligning with goals of optimizing operations and promoting sustainable urban development. © 2024 IEEE.

The categorization of Electro Cardio Gram (ECG) trials into significant arrhythmia programs to identify abnormal heartbeats is presented in this study as an effective hybridized method. The most frequently used and recognized detection technology to display heart fitness is the physiological detection utilizing ECG data. Arrhythmia beat categorization also plays a significant part in ECG analysis that is intended to clarify cardiac well-being position when investigating heartbeat. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) is deployed for the segmentation of input ECG images. The proposed work uses Fourier transform to remove the intrinsic sound of ECG signals during the preprocessing step in order to properly categorize ECG samples into main arrhythmia classifications. Chicken Swarm Optimization (CSO) is employed for the effective feature selection which is followed by CNN based classification. The research of swarm intelligence shows a rapid development trend. People have studied a lot of swarm intelligence algorithms inspired by biology. Sparrow search algorithm is concerned by many scholars because of its powerful search performance. However, in the case of high-dimension optimization problems, if only a single sparrow search algorithm is used to solve optimization problems, the optimal solution often cannot be found, and the phenomenon of dimension disaster will occur or it is easy to fall into the local optimal solution. In order to make sparrow search algorithm have better performance in solving high-dimensional complex problems, In this paper, we propose a new Sparrow Search Algorithm with Adaptive Collaborative Updating (SSA-ACU). The SSA-ACU algorithm initializes the population through the chaotic search strategy to make the population distribution more diverse. Then, adaptive parameters are introduced to update the position of the leader to provide a more reliable direction for particle search. Finally, in order to enhance the development ability of the population, the position of the adjoint is updated through the pseudo-affine transformation mechanism to change the mode of its position update. Then CEC2013 was used to test and compare SSA-ACU algorithm with other sparrow search algorithm variants and classical algorithms, and it was verified that SSA-ACU algorithm has good performance in convergence speed and optimization ability. © 2024, Taiwan Ubiquitous Information CO LTD. Person Re-identification associates the same person images captured by disjoint cameras. The different training strategies and precise hyper-parameter selection are required for the construction of an effective person re-identification. However, in the current work, the tests are carried out by trial and error, which takes a long time to reach an optimal solution. We experiment with various training strategies with the metric learning model serving as the baseline to address this issue. Existing person re-identification benchmarks have insufficient samples for training the ReID model. Also, the previous approaches fail when the same individual appears in varied sizes. To solve this issue, an auto-encoder module is used to create a single image in three distinct scales to enhance the sample size and tackle the scale variation problem of the person reidentification. In addition, a performance comparison is made between the baseline and the baseline with auto-encoder to demonstrate the influence of an auto-encoder as a data augmentation for the person re-identification. The adoption of auto-encoder module and bestperforming training techniques to a baseline have enhanced the rank1 and mAP on Market1501, DukeMTMC-reID datasets. © 2022 IEEE.
