Resource investment for DDoS attack resistant SDN: a practical assessment

Software-defined networks(SDNs) present a novel network architecture that is widely used in various datacenters. However, SDNs also suffer from many types of security threats, among which a distributed denial of service(DDoS) attack, which aims to drain the resources of SDN switches and controllers,is one of the most common. Once the switch or controller is damaged, the network services can be *** defense schemes against DDoS attacks have been proposed from the perspective of attack detection;however, such defense schemes are known to suffer from a time consuming and unpromising accuracy, which could result in an unavailable network service before specific countermeasures are taken. To address this issue through a systematic investigation, we propose an elaborate resource-management mechanism against DDoS attacks in an SDN. Specifically, by considering the SDN topology, we leverage the M/M/c queuing model to measure the resistance of an SDN to DDoS attacks. Network administrators can therefore invest a reasonable number of resources into SDN switches and SDN controllers to defend against DDoS attacks while guaranteeing the quality of service(QoS). Comprehensive analyses and empirical data-based experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Deep neural networks are increasingly used in cyber-physical systems (CPS) to achieve better performance. The dynamic nature of a CPS resulting from the interactions between the physical processes and computational elements can affect the performance of the DNN model. The goal of my research is to explore and design adaptation approaches for a CPS that can achieve high and robust performance under dynamic conditions. The first approach aims to optimize resource allocation in CPS with concurrent sensors. The second approach focuses on quality inspection in production lines, aiming to optimize energy consumption and performance. The third approach is designed for autonomous driving and involves adapting the neural architecture in real-time to meet dynamic deadlines. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

data race is one of the most important concurrent anomalies in multi-threaded *** con-straint-based techniques are leveraged into race detection,which is able to find all the races that can be found by any oth-er sound race ***,this constraint-based approach has serious limitations on helping programmers analyze and understand data ***,it may report a large number of false positives due to the unrecognized dataflow propa-gation of the ***,it recommends a wide range of thread context switches to schedule the reported race(in-cluding the false one)whenever this race is exposed during the constraint-solving *** ad hoc recommendation imposes too many context switches,which complicates the data race *** address these two limitations in the state-of-the-art constraint-based race detection,this paper proposes DFTracker,an improved constraint-based race detec-tor to recommend each data race with minimal thread context ***,we reduce the false positives by ana-lyzing and tracking the dataflow in the *** this means,DFTracker thus reduces the unnecessary analysis of false race *** further propose a novel algorithm to recommend an effective race schedule with minimal thread con-text switches for each data *** experimental results on the real applications demonstrate that 1)without removing any true data race,DFTracker effectively prunes false positives by 68%in comparison with the state-of-the-art constraint-based race detector;2)DFTracker recommends as low as 2.6-8.3(4.7 on average)thread context switches per data race in the real world,which is 81.6%fewer context switches per data race than the state-of-the-art constraint based race ***,DFTracker can be used as an effective tool to understand the data race for programmers.

Although brain imaging has provided crucial insights into Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression, its limitations in capturing molecular changes have motivated the need to integrate and interpret transcriptomic data, which can reveal early-stage molecular disruptions. By interpreting both structural and gene expression patterns, there is potential to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the disease and identify interactions that drive AD pathogenesis. This study introduces a novel deep learning framework that integrates structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) and gene expression (GE) data for AD prediction. The model extracts features from both data modalities and employs a novel approach to quantify cross-modal interactions. Our multimodal architecture achieves 83.6% accuracy in AD prediction, demonstrating its effectiveness in combining imaging and transcriptomic data. We present a technique for interpreting interactions between specific brain regions and gene expression patterns, providing insights into their joint contribution to AD risk. This approach enables the identification of both established and potential new AD biomarkers, spanning structural brain changes and transcriptomic alterations. By offering a deeper understanding of AD's molecular and structural aspects, our work advances the field of multimodal biomarker discovery in neurodegenerative diseases and paves the way for more comprehensive early diagnosis strategies. © 2025 IEEE.

The overexpression of B-cell lymphoma-extra large (BCL-xL), an anti-apoptotic protein, plays a pivotal role in various cancers by inhibiting apoptosis and promoting tumor progression. We introduce Latent Diffusion Model (LDM) specifically designed to generate apoptosis-inducing Anticancer Peptides (ACPs) targeting BCL-xL. By applying a diffusion process to high-dimensional embeddings generated by ESM-2, a state-of-the-art Protein Language Model (PLM), our approach successfully generates peptides with optimal physicochemical properties, even when trained on a relatively small dataset. In comparison to Variational Autoencoder (VAE) and Wasserstein Autoencoder (WAE), our architecture not only mitigates the limitations associated with small datasets but also produces peptides that closely align with desired physiochemical properties. Evaluation against key metrics-molecular weight, isoelectric point, net charge at pH 7, grand average of hydropathy, instability index, and anticancer peptide score, demonstrates that our model consistently outperforms both VAE and WAE, offering a promising strategy for the development of novel anticancer therapies. © 2025 IEEE.

Every year,the number of women affected by breast tumors is increasing ***,detecting and segmenting the cancer regions in mammogram images is important to prevent death in women patients due to breast *** conventional methods obtained low sensitivity and specificity with cancer region segmentation *** high-resolution standard mammogram images were supported by conventional methods as one of the main *** conventional methods mostly segmented the cancer regions in mammogram images concerning their exterior pixel *** drawbacks are resolved by the proposed cancer region detection methods stated in this *** mammogram images are clas-sified into normal,benign,and malignant types using the Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System(ANFIS)approach in this *** mammogram classification process consists of a noise filtering module,spatial-frequency transformation module,feature computation module,and classification *** Gaussian Filtering Algorithm(GFA)is used as the pixel smooth filtering method and the Ridgelet transform is used as the spatial-frequency transformation *** statistical Ridgelet feature metrics are computed from the transformed coefficients and these values are classified by the ANFIS technique in this ***,Probability Histogram Segmentation Algo-rithm(PHSA)is proposed in this work to compute and segment the tumor pixels in the abnormal mammogram *** proposed breast cancer detection approach is evaluated on the mammogram images in MIAS and DDSM *** the extensive analysis of the proposed tumor detection methods stated in this work with other works,the proposed work significantly achieves a higher *** methodologies proposed in this paper can be used in breast cancer detection hospitals to assist the breast surgeon to detect and segment the cancer regions.

Analysis of the characteristics and causes of city gas explosion accidents based on DT-AR algorithm

In order to effectively prevent and control accidents, it is essential to trace back the causes of gas explosions in cities. The DT-AR(decision tree-association rule) algorithm is proposed as a quantitative analysis of gas accident features and causality. First, 210 gas explosion accident investigation reports were taken as samples. The gas accident causation system is divided into three aspects, including environmental factors, management factors and physical factors. Management factors were sorted into organizational-level and individual-level factors from the investigation reports. Second, the CART decision tree model was used to compare location features, organizational causality features, and individual causality features of the piped and bottled gas accidents, and a decision tree model with the gas system fault site as the root node was built to filter the key feature variables. In order to reveal factor correlations and deep-level causation, the Apriori algorithm is used to mine accident association rules. The combinations on the branches of the decision tree are used as constraints to filter the critical causality rule, which improves the efficiency of association rule screening and enhances prediction accuracy. The results demonstrate that the DT-AR algorithm can evaluate the importance of variables, quickly locate effective combinations of factors, and mine the complete causal chain. The association rule is screened based on the constraint of the key element combination of the decision tree, which compensates for the low efficiency of the Apriori algorithm for association rule mining. In addition, the accident-caused excavation results provide an effective path for gas companies, outsourced service companies and administrative departments to implement gas safety chain supervision, which can address the problem of gas accident safety management failures and provide decision support for accident prevention. © 2024 – IOS Press.

Generative AI for Energy Harvesting Internet of Things Network: Fundamental, Applications, and Opportunities

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are typically powered by small-sized batteries with limited energy storage capacity, requiring regular replacement or recharging. To reduce costs and maintain connectivity in IoT networks, energy harvesting technologies are regarded as a promising solution. Notably, due to its robust analytical and generative capabilities, generative artificial intelligence (GenAl) has demonstrated significant potential in optimizing energy harvesting networks. Therefore, we discuss key applications of GenAl in improving energy harvesting IoT networks in this article. Specifically, we first review the key technologies of GenAI and the architecture of energy harvesting IoT networks. Then, we show how GenAI can address different problems to improve the performance of the energy harvesting IoT networks. Subsequently, we present a case study of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled data col-lection and energy transfer. The case study shows distinctively the necessity of energy harvesting technology and verify the effectiveness of GenAI-based methods. Finally, we discuss some import-ant open directions. © 2018 IEEE.

This study examines computer-generated sculpture using a hybrid architecture of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs). CNNs are essential for visual data analysis and processing, while GANs iteratively blur the line between synthesis and authenticity. A dynamically interacting generator and discriminator network form the GAN framework. The discriminator, trained to distinguish authentic sculptures from computer-generated ones, guides the generator toward greater realism and complexity with each iteration. This study analyzes the complicated dynamics of GAN-enabled sculpture production, examining several elements that affect the result. We intend to illuminate the complex relationship between composition, texture, and shape of digitally generated sculptures by analyzing sculptures using GANs and CNNs. We want to understand their formation methods as well as their aesthetic value. We also consider how GAN-generated sculptures may be transformed beyond traditional artistic usage. The sculptures offer unique opportunities for artistic expression, scholarly study, and practical use. They can enhance art, education, architectural design, and historical preservation. This thorough inquiry using GANs and CNNs aims to push the limitations of traditional art creation and explore unknown sculpture interpretation and analysis zones. © 2024 IEEE.
